Not all heroes wear capes, some wear fabulous heels. Being a woman can be a difficult job. We are often expected to be everything to everyone. Work hard to reach your full potential in your career field, but also raise a family in-between. Make sure you meet all of your deadlines at work but also bake a casserole and join a book club. While it may seem overwhelming to “do it all,” there are a few local women who seem to have it figured out. And, for that, they are my heroes; or should I say heroines. Malala Fund said, “I want every girl to know that her voice can change the world.” This group of women are bravely climbing to the top and making a difference in the lives of those around them. In these articles, we are raising a glass to some amazing women along the Gulf Coast. As successful businesswomen and entrepreneurs, these women are the examples that we need for our youth. Some are mothers, some are bosses, some are adventurous, some lead quietly from the sidelines, but there is one thing they all have in common — they are heroines. The leaders, the path blazers, the extraordinary women that always go a step above the rest. A heroine is defined as a woman admired or idealized for her courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.

These fearless women are that and more.

photography by: Miguel Booker Cognosante, LLC Crestview, FL

Michele Y. Shelton stands out as a shining example of what it means to lead a life guided by character, resilience, and a deep commitment to serving others. From her humble beginnings in Charleston, South Carolina, and the small coal mining town of Williamson, West Virginia, Michele has woven a tapestry of achievements that extend far beyond any singular accomplishment.

At the heart of Michele’s journey is a profound understanding of the power of community and the invaluable lessons imparted by the strong women who shaped her early years. Her mother and grandmother instilled in her the importance of prayer, making a strong first impression, and thinking before speaking or acting — principles that have served as guideposts throughout her life.

“My mom would say things like ‘everything you do and say is a reflection of who you are, so always think before you speak and act,’” Michele recalls. These words, coupled with her mother’s unwavering faith and perseverance in the face of adversity, laid the foundation for Michele’s own resilience and tenacity.

Today, Michele is a retired Colonel from the United States Air Force, having served with distinction for more than 28 years, culminating in her role as the Special Program Assistant to the Air Force Surgeon General. Her career was filled with a combination of clinical practice, education, flight nursing, and leadership roles, all woven together by her commitment to excellence and service.

But Michele’s impact extends far beyond her military service. As a board member of the White Wilson Community Foundation, she actively supports initiatives aimed at improving healthcare and wellness in her local community. And her involvement with her sorority chapter has led to impactful work addressing childhood hunger, youth leadership development, financial wellness, and support for senior citizens.

“If you want to see change, you can’t just sit around and complain about it,” Michele asserts. “One must be a part of the solution, not part of the problem.”

This philosophy is exemplified in her volunteer work with organizations like the Legacy Flight Academy, where she empowers underrepresented youth to pursue careers in aerospace and STEM fields, drawing inspiration from the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen.

When asked about her proudest accomplishment, Michele’s response is a testament to the depth of her character: “My greatest accomplishment is undoubtedly the birth and development of my two biological children. Witnessing their growth, milestones, and unique personalities unfold over the years has been a source of immense joy and fulfillment in my life. Additionally, I take great pride in the determination and perseverance displayed by my bonus son. Despite facing challenges along the way, he has shown incredible resilience and strength, which inspires me daily. His journey has taught

me the importance of unwavering support, patience, and believing in the potential of every individual. Overall, the privilege of being a parent and witnessing the growth and development of my children, both biological and bonus, stands as my greatest accomplishment, filled with love, learning, and meaningful experiences.”

As she looks to the future, Michele’s plans are centered on continuing to give back to her community, with a particular focus on supporting single mothers, youth, and veterans. Her involvement in her church, where she teaches Sunday School and Bible Study, and her participation in the Anointed Voices Choir and Morning Glory music ensemble, further illustrate her multifaceted approach to making a positive impact.

Michele Y. Shelton’s life is a powerful reminder of the lasting influence that character, resilience, and a commitment to serving others can have. Her story reminds us all of the transformative power that resides within each of us to create positive change in our communities and the lives of those around us.

Kristin Longley is invested in making Gulf Coast communities better places to live. Originally from West Des Moines, Iowa, Kristin and her family have lived in the greater Pensacola area three times, drawn back by the vibrant community and ample opportunities to get involved. As the Public Affairs Director for Cox Communications, Kristin has found ample ways to put her leadership skills to use, serving as the President of the IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area Board of Directors, on the Baptist Health Care Foundation Board, and on Florida’s Great Northwest Board.

Kristin credits much of her drive and ambition to the example set by the strong women in her life, from her mother and her mother’s community-minded friends to her high school mentor who balanced a career, family, and civic involvement. “If she could do all that, I knew I could do some of it!” Kristin says.

Embracing challenging assignments and a willingness to adapt have been key to Kristin’s professional growth. “You must be willing to conquer tough jobs, and willing to embrace change in order to increase your skills and value,” she advises. When reflecting on the advice she would give her 20-year-old self, Kristin emphasizes the importance of speaking up, being more assertive, and knowing her subject matter inside and out.

Kristin’s greatest accomplishment, however, are the two sons she and her husband have raised to be “smart, kind, balanced, and civic-minded young men.” Seeing her boys thrive brings her immense joy and a deep sense of gratitude.

Kristin is quick to acknowledge the support and guidance of the many strong female leaders in her life, both at work and in the Pensacola community. She is particularly grateful for the leadership of Stephanie Federico at Cox Communications, as well as local luminaries like Debbie Ritchie, Belle Bear, Meri Asmar, Susan Bonsignore, Martha Holden, Brigette Brooks, and Magi Williams.

Kristin’s own leadership has made a tangible impact on her community. She is especially proud of her involvement in the new YMCA project downtown and the fundraising efforts for the new Baptist Health Care campus. “Wow — what a difference both have made in our community!” she exclaims. Looking ahead, Kristin plans to continue supporting IMPACT 100 and provide mentorship to students at the University of West Florida College of Business and Pensacola Young Professionals.

When asked about the success of those she leads, Kristin modestly deflects the praise. “I would encourage you to reach out to those that serve alongside me,” she says. “I definitely feel as though board culture and focusing on everyone’s strengths is a key component of my leadership style!”

Shalimar, FL

Ifyou ask Jessica Munn where she’s from, she’ll tell you she was born in Denver, Colorado, but has called the Destin-Fort Walton Beach area home since she was a toddler. Currently residing in Shalimar with her husband, son, and daughters, this Southern belle has made it her mission to give back to the community that raised her.

As the Director of Sales & Marketing at Salt Water Vacations, Jessica has the privilege of overseeing the company’s extensive community involvement efforts. Notably, she is especially “proud of Salt Water Vacation’s visibility and contributions throughout the community, particularly helping kids get vital arts and music education they so desperately need through our strong partnerships with Sinfonia and Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation.”

But Jessica’s commitment to her community goes far beyond her day job. She comes from a long line of strong, service-minded women who instilled in her the importance of giving back. “I was lucky to have so many incredible role models — from my wry, Bronx-accented grandmother to my polite, persevering Southern grandmother, to my adoring grandfather and my mama who always told me I could be anything,” Jessica reflects.

That ethos of service has manifested in Jessica’s decades-long involvement with local businesses and charitable organizations. She’s been a tireless volunteer, serving as the former Founder/President of Support Emerald Coast, past President & CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs and its Foundation, and in various roles with the Junior League of the Emerald

Coast, the Taylor Haugen Foundation, the Emerald Coast Science Center, United Way, and more. “Giving back has been a labor of love for me,” she says. “I can’t imagine not continuing to lend my support and expertise to enhance our community, especially for the incredible kids growing up here.”

Jessica’s proudest accomplishment, though, is raising her own three children to be “unique, loving, productive, faithcentered citizens.” As a working mother, she knows the challenges of balancing career and family, but she’s grateful for the opportunity to model the importance of community engagement for the next generation. “My children are my proudest accomplishment,” she beams. “Being able to send them into the world as good citizens is the most satisfying thing I’ve ever done.”

Thinking back to what advice she might give her 20-year-old self, Jessica reflects, “Womanhood is special. Womanhood is grit and grace — part superwoman, part tragedy — but it is always exceptional and to be protected and coveted by you daily.”

Looking ahead, Jessica shows no signs of slowing down. She’s honored that many of her former mentees and employees are now thriving in leadership roles at the organizations she introduced them to. “I was once told I held the record for most turnover in my department, and

I was thrilled to receive that declaration,” she laughs. “It meant I was ‘graduating’ so many into positions of greater responsibility due to their shining reputations.”

photography by: Kristina Wright Teri Levin
| Heroines

Teri Levin is a woman of many talents and passions. Born and raised in Salem, Indiana, she has called Pensacola, Florida, home for the last 44 years. As a real estate partner at Levin Rinke Realty, Teri has been involved in the development of many iconic Pensacola Beach properties, including Tristan Towers, Emerald Isle, Verandas, Beach Club, and Portofino. Her involvement in the community doesn’t stop there, though, as she has done (and continues to do) extensive philanthropic work.

Teri’s drive to give back was instilled in her at a young age by her beloved grandmother, who she describes as “creative, compassionate, and a hard worker.” Growing up on farms in Indiana, Teri spent countless hours with her grandmother, who served as a “positive force” in her life. This strong connection shaped Teri into the woman she is today — one who is deeply committed to making a difference.

One of Teri’s most meaningful philanthropic endeavors is her long-standing involvement with the Gulf Coast Kid’s House, an advocacy center for abused children. For more than 20 years, Teri has dedicated her time and resources to supporting this crucial organization, inspired by its mission to protect the most vulnerable members of the community.

But Teri’s philanthropic reach extends far beyond the Gulf Coast Kid’s House. She has served on the boards of numerous nonprofit organizations, including the Pensacola Museum of Art, the University of West Florida Historic Trust, and the Council on Aging. Teri has also chaired countless fundraisers for local institutions such as the Pensacola Symphony, Autism Pensacola, and Pensacola Museum of Art.

Teri’s passion for Pensacola is palpable. She attributes her deep involvement in the community to her love for the city’s history and arts scene, which she has witnessed evolve over the past four decades. Teri’s commitment to Pensacola is further demonstrated through her co-ownership of two beloved local businesses — Vinyl Music Hall and B Side.

When asked about the advice she would give her 20-year-old self, Teri offers a powerful mantra: “Believe in yourself, be true to yourself, and what other people think is none of your business.” This sage advice has clearly served Teri well as she has navigated a life filled with professional success and meaningful philanthropic work.

Teri’s proudest accomplishments include the growth and impact of the Gulf Coast Kid’s House, as well as the development of iconic properties like Portofino that have transformed the Pensacola Beach landscape. But above all, Teri considers her greatest achievement to be her son, Evan, whom she raised with the unwavering support of her late husband, Allen, who was a strong force in her life, supporting her in every endeavor.

As Teri looks to the future, she remains steadfast in her commitment to giving back to the community she loves. “I plan on continuing to give back by continuing to be active in giving my time and my contributions to nonprofits and to the city of Pensacola,” she affirms.

Empress Myishola Matthews

Empress of The Ishola Empire Gulf Breeze, FL

In our fast-paced modern world, it’s refreshing to meet a woman who exudes grace, poise, and an unwavering commitment to service. Her Imperial Majesty Empress Myishola Matthews is one such lady — a true modern-day queen whose influence stretches far beyond the boundaries of her beloved Ishola Empire.

A native Houstonian now residing in the beautiful Gulf Breeze, Florida, Empress Myishola’s journey has been one of passion, purpose, and an incredible drive to uplift those around her. As the leader of The Ishola Empire, a 6th Region nation and civil society organization, she wears many royal hats — visionary, diplomat, philanthropist, and nurturer, to name a few.

“I serve as a voice at the table of international forums like the United Nations and African Union, ensuring the 6th Region is spoken for and protected through policy writing and lots of speeches,” Empress Myishola explains. But her role extends far beyond the diplomatic arena. On a local level, she is dedicated to creating social services, educational resources, and enriching opportunities to elevate the quality of life for her global community.

Under her guidance, The Ishola Empire has established four tuitionfree schools, free telehealth and mental health services, along with an array of social and cultural activities. From elegant balls to immersive retreats and expeditions, Empress Myishola ensures her people have access to experiences that nurture the mind, body, and soul.

www.ScarlettMag.com
| Heroines

Her path to modern-day monarchy was an organic one, shaped by her upbringing and deep-rooted connection to her African heritage. “My father would wear traditional African clothing exclusively and often sent me to school in traditional attire,” she shares. “He told me stories passed down of our history and led the people of the 6th Region in our community, creating enrichment opportunities. I believe these things ingrained at a very early age played a large part in my decision to fully embrace service in monarchy.”

Despite achieving remarkable success in the corporate world as a marketing consultant and firm owner, Empress Myishola felt a higher calling — one that would allow her to have a more profound impact on the lives of others. “I firmly believe that if invested in the region properly, with education and mentorship, I would be able to help others achieve a better life,” she reflects.

Her proudest accomplishment? The incredible growth and development of the noble ladies who represent The Ishola Empire around the world. “These ladies are all best-selling authors, running their own nonprofits and businesses while hosting community programs globally and mentoring youth,” she beams. “Watching them blossom has been an incredible blessing.”

Of course, no conversation with Empress Myishola would be complete without mentioning her deep faith, which serves as the bedrock of her life’s work. “Bringing everyone in Ishola to Christ over the last four years and having 100 percent of our nation in a church is hands down my greatest sense of pride,” she shares.

As for her future vision, Empress Myishola hopes to establish an educational facility in Pensacola that celebrates the city’s rich royal heritage. She also dreams of gifting her community with a permanent musical theater program and royal ballet company.

When asked what advice she would give her 20-year-old self, Empress Myishola doesn’t hesitate: “Listen to your mother! My mother was right about absolutely everything, even things she was wrong about!” With a radiant smile, she concludes, “I am astonished at how many unpleasant experiences I might have avoided by simply heeding her wisdom.”

In a world that often values external success over substance, Empress Myishola Matthews is a shining example of a woman who has wholeheartedly embraced her royal purpose — uplifting her community one selfless act at a time.

Men — can’t live with them, can’t live without them. But luckily we’ve found a few good men! Leaders, mentors, partners, gentlemen. There are approximately 161.6 million men in the United States. That’s a big number, but all we need is a few good men to make a difference. We are lucky that the Gulf Coast has as many good men as they do palm trees. Our area is booming with strong male role models helping to lead the way and to guide the younger generations down the right path. These men are out there in our community making a real difference. They are running businesses, they are volunteering, they are working at the local nonprofits, they are fathers, and they are husbands. These men are juggling all of these jobs and are doing it with style and grace. Being a good man is more than just following the rules, it’s being the individual who goes above and beyond. It’s being the man who isn’t afraid to stand up for what is right. A truly good man is one whose traits perfectly balance out. He is both strong and sensitive, a leader but can also take direction. A good man is someone you can look up to.

Kevin

Panama City, FL

WhenKevin Elliott was just a teenager, he fell in love with the charming coastal town of Panama City, Florida. Little did he know then that he would one day become a driving force behind the city’s thriving arts scene.

As a “military kid,” Elliott moved around a lot as a child, but Panama City captured his heart in 1988 when his family settled there. He was 13. Now, more than 30 years later, he has made the city his permanent home, and he’s dedicated to nurturing its creative spirit.

Elliott’s path to becoming a pillar of the local arts community was not a straight one. He co-founded a film production company called Wewa Films in his mid-40s. Born out of that successful business, Elliott discovered an additional calling — using film to showcase the talented artists and artisans in his beloved Panama City.

“I always attended arts events in Panama City and have been a cheerleader of our creative efforts,” Elliott explains. “But I had never helped make one myself. Redfish started with a Wewa Films project.”

That project was a docu-series called CRAFT, which highlighted local artists. When the team decided to host a premiere screening at a local boxing club, the overwhelmingly positive response gave Elliott an idea. “As I stood there watching that crowd watch that film, I had an inkling we could make this into something bigger. The idea for Redfish Film Fest was born that night.”

Redfish Film Fest is a documentary-only festival that takes place in Panama City’s historic downtown arts district. Elliott co-founded the festival with his business partner, Lex Benedict, with the goal of showcasing the town’s artistic soul on a national stage.

“We want to show the world how special our town and its people are,” Elliott says. “Redfish is that platform.”

Interestingly, Elliott didn’t have traditional mentors to guide him on his entrepreneurial journey. Instead, he encourages young people to seek out like-minded creative individuals who are further along in their careers.

“I would tell 20-year-old me to find people who are creative and entrepreneurial like me, then befriend them, and learn from them,” he advises. “I tried to do it alone for way too long. When I found like-minded friends in my early 40s, I saw what I was missing and my business career took off.”

While Elliott is humble about his own accomplishments, he is quick to credit the strong women in his life for his success. From his mother, a self-taught artist who inspired his creative spirit, to his wife Kathy, who provides a steadying influence, to his business partners Courtney and Lex, Elliott says he owes it all to the incredible women around him.

“I owe all my accomplishments to these women. Absolutely couldn’t do it without them,” he affirms.

Looking to the future, Elliott has big plans for Redfish Film Fest. Over the next five years, he and his partner Lex aim to grow the festival and establish it as the premier documentary film festival in the Southeast U.S. It’s an ambitious goal, but knowing Elliott’s passion and determination, there’s no doubt he’ll succeed.

As for his overall legacy, Elliott hopes that Redfish will be his greatest contribution to the community he loves. “It is a national film fest, but it is woven into our historic downtown arts district. It provides a venue for all our local creatives to play in and showcase their amazing work, as well as a home for national filmmakers to visit,” he says.

With his infectious enthusiasm and unwavering support for the arts, Kevin Elliott is undoubtedly leaving an indelible mark on Panama City. And for this military kid turned arts champion, there’s nowhere else he’d rather be.

Joshua Paul Sirten

Artist/Entertainer, Frank Sinatra Tribute

Niceville, FL

Ifyou’re one of the lucky ones who has seen Joshua Paul Sirten belt out the classics as a Frank Sinatra tribute artist, you know he has a special gift for captivating an audience. With his dapper looks, smooth vocals, and magnetic stage presence, Joshua transports fans back to the glamorous days of the Rat Pack era. But when he’s not channeling Ol’ Blue Eyes under the bright lights, this multi-talented entertainer wears several other important hats — as a dedicated family man, community philanthropist, and project manager.

The 38-year-old Huntsville, Alabama, native works as a Project Manager for a civil engineering firm in Destin, Florida, where he now resides with his fiancé, Meghan, and three children, Paul (14), Samantha (9), and Joseph (7).

While he clearly has an affinity for the past, Joshua is also firmly focused on the present and making a difference in his community. He serves as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Annual Harbor Rats Charity Golf Tournament, an event founded five years ago by a group of patrons from Harbor Cigars in Destin. In 2023, the tournament raised more than $60,000 for local nonprofits Alaqua and the Sandestin Foundation for Kids.

“I’m very proud of my association with the Harbor Rats Charitable Foundation,” Joshua says. “Giving back is so important to me. I’m excited to see the event’s continued growth and the foundation’s contributions to making a positive impact in the community I call home.”

And what drives this multi-talented Renaissance man? A simple philosophy: “I hope that I bring joy, laughter, and entertainment to those I come into contact with through my performances. I hope that it serves as a respite from the wearying grind of daily life that can sometimes tie knots in your spirits.”

If his charismatic Sinatra tribute shows and charitable works are any indication, Joshua is undoubtedly succeeding at that goal. By daring to live out his artistic dreams on the stage while being a caring father figure and outstanding community advocate off of it, he is the full embodiment of a leading player devoted to a life well lived and well loved.

Dr. Nicklaus Williams-Heath

Dentist, Gibson & Heath Family Dentistry

Gulf Breeze, FL

Whenyou meet Dr. Nicklaus Williams-Heath, his warm smile and welcoming presence immediately put you at ease. But this friendly Gulf Breeze Dentist is much more than just a bright grin — he’s an inspiring force of leadership, service, and community engagement.

Originally from the Gulf Breeze area, Nicklaus always knew he wanted to make a positive impact close to home. “Look around,” he says. “In a city of differencemakers, it is quite contagious.” After studying fields like communications, architecture, and eventually dentistry, he found his calling improving smiles and oral health as part of the team at Gibson & Heath Family Dentistry.

But Nicklaus’ commitment extends far beyond the dental practice. Having served as President of the EscaRosa Dental Society, he nurtures collaboration and excellence among area practitioners. And his role on the scholarship committee for the Gulf Breeze Rotary Club allows him to support local students as they embark on their journeys to change the world.

His path wasn’t always clear, however. Reflecting on advice for his 20-year-old self, Nicklaus says, “You are nowhere near how far you are going to go.” After dental school and residency took him away for years, including a stint living in New York City where he met his nowhusband, he ended up right back where he started — his beloved hometown.

“I’m proud to be able to return to my hometown and live authentically both professionally and personally,” Nicklaus beams. This ability to come full circle and thrive in the place that made him is one of his greatest sources of pride.

When asked about his biggest female influences, he doesn’t single out one woman, but rather the entire community around him. “To list one is far too few. Lucky am I to be surrounded by a group of women that are brilliant movers, shakers, and makers.” This “village,” as he calls it, is the driving force behind his ambition to constantly do more.

Over the next five years, in addition to practicing dentistry, Nicklaus plans to “continue showing up, signing up, and supporting.” His passion for nurturing the area’s cultural vitality means you’re as likely to find him in the audience at a concert as in a boardroom strategizing ways to enrich the arts.

At his core, Nicklaus is a celebration of how cultivating homegrown talent and investing in youth can elevate an

entire community. “It takes a village, and I am proud to say our village looks pretty good on the map,” he shares. With his unstoppable spirit and glowing belief in the power of this place, Dr. Nicklaus Williams-Heath is helping write his hometown’s next great chapter, one smile at a time.

Elegant Coastal Condo

written by: Bunny Hall photography by: McCain's Creations Photography

Stepping off the elevator at One Beach Club invites you into a realm where the azure hues of the Gulf of Mexico meld seamlessly with the powdery embrace of sandy shores. Within this exquisitely appointed condominium, Bunny Hall and Joy Adams embarked on a journey of creativity, drawing inspiration from the coastal palette of navy blue, sea salt, crystal white sand, and accents of coral and verdant crystal green.

Their design narrative unfolded with meticulous attention to texture, crafting a tapestry of sensations that whispered of tranquility and elegance. The pièce de résistance, a feature fireplace wall adorned with intricately carved marble in geometric patterns, sets an opulent tone for the living space. Flanking this focal point, bookcases, ensconced in azure grass cloth, lends an air of refinement and depth to the ambiance. In the dining room and wine bar, stunning mosaic tiles that weave a tale of timeless sophistication, creating a backdrop that dances with the play of light and shadow. Not to be outshone, the kitchen received a royal makeover with hand-painted tiles sourced from the artisans of Italy, their ethereal blue-gray and navy hues echoing the majesty of the surrounding seas.

Bunny's unwavering commitment to lighting as the "jewelry" of design came to fruition with the placement of stand-alone gold metal discs, that cast a luminous embrace bathing the living area in an enchanting glow. Functionality remained paramount, with each piece carefully curated to seamlessly blend practicality with aesthetic allure.

45

As Bunny so aptly articulated, "Every room has a view," a sentiment echoed by Joy, underscoring their vision to seamlessly meld the coastal outdoors with the refined elegance of interior spaces. Custom furniture pieces, sourced from the far reaches of the globe, bestow an air of worldly sophistication upon the space, while original artworks and sumptuous fabrics add layers of opulence to every corner.

The accolades for this masterful design extend to The Perfect Plan Destin, Bunny and Joy, alongside Brad Armbewser, the maestro contractor, and a stellar ensemble of collaborators including Beautiful Lights, Kitchen Innovations, Carpet One, Beach Blinds, 850 Tile, and Glenn Williams Finishes.

Capturing the ethereal essence of this transformative journey is none other than McCain's Creations Photography, whose lens immortalizes the timeless beauty and understated grandeur of this coastal sanctuary.

CELEBRATE FREEDOM

Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. It is celebrated on the anniversary of General Order No. 3, issued by Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger in 1865, proclaiming freedom for slaves in Galveston, Texas. Juneteenth has since been observed annually, often broadly celebrating African-American culture, with celebratory traditions often including public readings of the Emancipation Proclamation, singing traditional songs, and the reading of works by noted African-American writers. The day was first recognized as a federal holiday in 2021, becoming the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was adopted in 1983.

Building a

Working remotely has become the new normal for many of us, bringing a newfound flexibility but also some serious wardrobe challenges. How do you get dressed for the workday without really going into an office? You want to look put-together on video calls, while still prioritizing comfort since your commute is just a few steps away. With some smart choices, you can easily build a work-from-home wardrobe that keeps you feeling confident, stylish, and oh-so-cozy.

Lounge in Luxury

One of the biggest perks of working remotely is getting to spend your days in loungewear — but that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice looking polished. Invest in some elevated loungewear pieces like soft knit dresses, flowy jumpsuits, or matching lounge sets in luxe fabrics like silk, cashmere, or modal blends. Look for styles with subtle detailing like drawstring waists, flattering draping, or seam detailing to elevate the look beyond basic sweats. There are now many brands that offer loungey pieces that blur the line between pajamas and outfits. We won’t tell if you don’t.

Blazer Brigade

Having a few blazers in your arsenal is a must for looking instaprofessional on video calls. A tailored blazer automatically pulls together any look — from jeans to a slip dress. Stick to classic colors like black, navy, or camel in fabrics with a bit of stretch for comfort if you want to maximize your mix-and-match ability. Then have some fun playing with different blouses, tees, or tanks underneath. You can keep it casual with a vintage tee or ramp it up with a satin cami. Just throw on the blazer when you hop on camera and instantly look like you mean business.

Casual Yet Crisp

While you may be tempted to live in leggings and hoodies, having a few easy dresses and tops in your weekly rotation makes getting ready a breeze. Stock up on shirt dresses, shirt jackets, blouses, and knit separates in soft, washable fabrics. Look for relaxed, flowy silhouettes and details that keep things comfortable without being too sloppy. Keep hair, makeup, and accessories simple — just put on some dewy tinted moisturizer, swipe on some lip gloss, and you're video-ready.

Comfy Footwear

There's no need for sky-high heels or constrictive shoes when working from home — can I get an amen! Embrace the slipper life with a few pairs of stylish yet cozy house shoes. Look for flats and slippers that combine support with laid-back sophistication, or treat yourself to a pair of luxe moccasin slippers in sumptuous fabrics — way more chic than fleece booties. Just be sure to keep your camera framed from the chest up so your footwear can remain a mystery. Literally anything goes!

Having a few go-to pieces you feel great in makes it so much easier to show up polished and professional each day — even if your morning commute is just a walk across the living room!

Mint

Amint

julep is a bourbon-based cocktail that is very popular for the Kentucky Derby. It consists of bourbon, mint, sugar, and crushed ice. The origins of the mint julep date back to the 18th century in the American South, and it likely evolved from Arabic drinks made with rosewater and fruit. Traditionally, mint juleps are served in a frozen silver or pewter cup to help insulate the beverage and keep it cold. Try out this recipe and decide for yourself if mint juleps are for you!

10 mint leaves, plus a sprig for garnish

1 ½ tsp superfine sugar

Seltzer water

Crushed ice

2 ½ oz Kentucky bourbon whiskey

Place the mint leaves in the bottom of a Julep cup or old-fashioned glass and top with the sugar. Muddle these together until the leaves begin to break down. Add a splash of seltzer water, fill the glass 3/4 full with crushed ice, and add the bourbon. Top with another splash of seltzer, stir, and garnish with a sprig of mint. Serve immediately.

Reinventing

| Mental Health
written by: Molly Rivers

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered who that person staring back at you really is? Or felt like you've somehow drifted off the path of who you dreamed you'd become when you were younger? If so, you're not alone, ladies. At some point in our lives, most of us question our identity and sense of self. The good news is it's never too late to reinvent yourself and become the person you truly want to be!

The first step is giving yourself permission to make changes. Too often we get stuck in routines and habits, falling into the trap of "this is just who I am." Guilty. But the reality is, you have the power to shape your identity through your thoughts, words, and actions. You aren't a static, unchanging entity — you are a constantly evolving work-inprogress. The next step is getting clear on your vision. And this is the good part … What kind of person do you want to be? What values, qualities, and traits do you want to embody? Don't censor yourself here — dream big and get radically honest with yourself about who you aspire to become. Write it down, make a vision board, do whatever it takes to vividly define your ideal self.

63

With that inspiring vision firmly planted, now take an honest inventory of your current habits, behaviors, and mindsets that may be holding you back from actualizing that version of yourself. For example, if you want to be more confident but you have a habit of negative self-talk, that's something to work on changing. If kindness is important to you but you often snap at loved ones, there's room for improvement there. The wonderful thing about habits is that they can be rebuilt and reshaped with commitment and consistency over time. Bring more present-moment awareness to detrimental patterns so you can catch and course-correct them in the act —

meditation can help build this "muscle." Don't try to overhaul everything at once or you'll likely get overwhelmed and revert back to old ways — focus on one key area at a time and make small, sustainable changes. Notice when you "slip up" and return to an old habit, but instead of beating yourself up, treat it as a learning opportunity to make a different choice next time. Our habits and identity are significantly shaped by the environments we surround ourselves with and the people we spend time with, so upgrade your circle of influence. Use positive self-talk as a way to reprogram your mindset by telling yourself "I am..." statements that reflect your ideal self. Some of my favorites are “I am smart,”

“I am capable,” “I am worthy,” and “I am beautiful.” Feel free to borrow those if you feel stuck!

Be patient and compassionate with yourself through this journey of growth. True reinvention doesn't occur overnight — it's a continuous practice of growing into the person you wish to be. But with commitment, you can absolutely transform into your most authentic, empowered self!

I am smart, I am capable, I am worthy, I am beautiful.

Declutter

Does just thinking about getting organized at home feel overwhelming? Breaking it down into manageable daily tasks can make it much more achievable. Take this 30-day challenge to declutter and organize each space in your home — you'll be amazed at how much you can accomplish little by little. We’re suggesting specific rooms for each day range, but tackle your space in whatever order makes sense for you!

Day 1-3: Kitchen

Start by clearing out all expired foods and tossing or donating anything you don't use. Sort items like tupperware, pots, and pans into categories to reduce duplicates. Don’t forget the junk drawer, the spice rack, or under the sink. Reorganize remaining items neatly into cabinets and drawers.

Day 4-6: Clothing Closets

Try on everything and get rid of anything that doesn't fit or you haven't worn in over a year. Organize hanging items by type (dresses, shirts, etc.) or color — depending on which feels better to you! Use shoe racks, bins, and other containers to neatly store accessories that don’t otherwise have a place to easily access them when you need to.

Day 7-9: Linen Closets

Toss any mismatched or ratty sheets, towels, or blankets. Arrange neatly by room and store off-season items elsewhere. Add stackable bins to organize smaller loose items.

Day 10-12: Bathroom Cabinets

Get rid of any old makeup, lotions, and medicines. Making sure you’re not using expired products or medicines is super important. Sort remaining items by category like hair, skin, medicine. Use bins and shelving to keep products organized as space allows.

www.ScarlettMag.com
| 30-Day Challenge

Day 13-15: Living Room

Remove any books, toys, or clutter that doesn’t belong … I’m looking at you full laundry basket. Tidy up media items into cabinets or shelves and sort decor items you're keeping. You could also take the opportunity to rearrange furniture to optimize the space.

Day 16-18: Home Office

Start with a completely clear desk. Sort all paperwork into categories for filing and toss or shred anything that you no longer need to keep. Organize remaining supplies into storage boxes, bins, or drawers.

Day 19-21: Kid's Rooms

Have the kiddos sort through and toss/donate unused toys and clothes. Use storage bins and shelving to neatly organize items they're keeping. Hang or fold all clothes into the closet or drawers, and return any dishes to the kitchen (or anything that belongs in a different part of the house).

Day 22-24: Attic/Basement

Safely toss or donate anything you don't need. Clearly label storage boxes before putting items away neatly.

Day 25-27: Garage

This could be a big one. If you, like many of us, use your garage for more than just parking your car, you likely have a wide variety of items to sort through. Start with organizing all loose tools, equipment, and car supplies into categorized storage bins or shelving units. Consider hanging bicycles and other sports equipment on the wall or even from the ceiling to free up valuable floor space.

Day 28-30: Miscellaneous Areas

Hit any remaining spaces like entryways, laundry rooms, and storage closets. Arrange coats, shoes, and cleaning supplies neatly using hanging racks, shelves, and bins. By now you’ve definitely found your organization groove, and you likely know exactly where the miscellaneous odd items need to go.

Making incremental progress each day toward an organized living space feels so rewarding. Stay motivated with this 30-day roadmap to finally achieve the clutterfree home you've been dreaming about!

We all have a life story — a winding path filled with choices, some of which we look back on with pride, and others we might wish we could change. How we interpret and make peace with the decisions and circumstances that have made us who we are today is key to living with authenticity and self-acceptance.

The first step is acknowledging your story without judgment. So often we sweep parts of our past under the rug, whether it's difficult memories, mistakes we've made, or relationships that went awry. But denying those experiences doesn't make them disappear. In fact, it fuels feelings of shame, guilt, and discontent.

Instead, practice acknowledging your full narrative with radical self-compassion. Make a timeline of pivotal moments and decisions — the good, the bad, and the ugly. Resist the urge to criticize yourself or dwell on regrets. Simply lay it all out. You don't have to dredge up intensely traumatic events, but taking an honest inventory allows you to truly own your story.

From there, you can start to explore the factors that led you to each crossroads: the contexts, beliefs, fears, and hopes that shaped your choices at the time. Perhaps you stayed in an unhealthy relationship for too long because you grew up witnessing unhealthy dynamics and didn't know any better. Maybe you quit a dream job because you were burned out and deprioritized self-care. Unpacking the "whys" behind your life story doesn't excuse poor decisions, but it allows you to view them through a more empathetic lens. You can cultivate understanding both for your past self and your current self. You'll likely find that you were always doing the best you could with the tools you had at the time.

With this new level of compassionate awareness, you can

begin to make peace with your narrative by reframing it. What did you learn from those tough chapters that helped mold you into who you are today? How did adversity unveil your resilience and strength? Maybe you wouldn't change a thing because those experiences led you to your current happy reality. After doing the work, you may even feel inclined to actually write your story. Or maybe a less intensive journaling can help you work through your experiences to begin with. Remember, owning your story means giving every part of it respect and embracing its ultimate role in your evolution. Your life path hasn't been perfect, but it's been perfectly yours — a life-long journey you get to narrate with love, wisdom, and ever-growing self-acceptance.

½ cup plus 2 tbsp sugar, divided 2 tsp ground cinnamon

2 tbsp vegetable oil, plus more for frying ½ tsp salt

1 cup water 1 cup all-purpose flour

1. In a shallow dish, whisk together ½ cup sugar with the cinnamon and set the mixture aside.

2. In a small nonstick saucepan set over medium-high heat, whisk together the remaining 2 tbsp sugar with 2 tbsp vegetable oil, ½ tsp salt and 1 cup water. Bring the mixture to a boil then remove it from the heat and stir in the flour until a ball forms. (This should happen quickly, in a minute or two).

3. Transfer the churro dough to a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped tip (optional).

4. Add about 4 inches of vegetable oil to a stockpot set over medium-high heat and attach the deep-fry thermometer. Line a baking sheet with paper towels.

5. Once the oil reaches 360°F, pipe the churro dough into the hot oil and use scissors to cut the dough every 1/2-inch (or in longer ropes if desired) as it releases into the oil. (Do not overcrowd the pan!) Fry the churro bites until they are golden brown on all sides, then using a slotted spoon, transfer them to the paper towel-lined baking sheet.

6. Allow the churro bites to drain for 2 minutes on the paper towels then roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Serve the churro bites warm with your choice of sauces.

WhatPrioritizing

| Inner Beauty
written by: Molly Rivers

We all have the same 24 hours in a day, and yet some women seem to thrive while others feel constantly overwhelmed and spread thin. The key differentiator? Knowing how to prioritize what truly matters. In our fastpaced, modern world, it's easy to get caught up in the endless stream of demands, requests, and distractions coming our way. Emails, social media, calls from friends and family, work obligations, chores, and other responsibilities pile onto our plates until we're left spinning in a maze of to-dos. Before we know it, the really meaningful things — the moments, relationships, and goals that give our lives purpose and joy — get pushed aside.

But you have the power to take back control and ensure you're devoting your precious time and energy to what's most important. Making this mind-set shift comes down to three main steps:

Clarify Your Core Priorities

What relationships, experiences, or accomplishments would you consider non-negotiable? Perhaps quality time with your kids, a weekly date night with your spouse, or launching that business you've been dreaming about for years. Get crystal clear on your top three to five priorities that absolutely must take precedence.

Schedule with Intentionality

Once you've defined your core priorities, block off designated time for them first before anything else gets penciled in on your calendar. Treat these as immovable commitments to yourself, just as you would any crucial work obligation or family event.

The Three P’s — Practice Prudent Pruning

With your core priorities protected, you'll need to prune away the less meaningful time commitments and obligations. Get brutally honest about activities, meetings, or responsibilities that can be pared down or dropped altogether. Don't be afraid to politely say "no" to things that don't align with your greater goals.

Making this shift to prioritize your time won't be easy at first. You may need to have hard conversations, set new boundaries, or tune out the noise of others' expectations. But putting your core priorities first allows you to show up more fully — for yourself, your loved ones, and your loftiest ambitions. After all, how you allocate your time is how you allocate your life. So make sure you're investing it in what matters most.

77

Managing

That punch-in-the-gut feeling hits you at random moments — when you snap at your kids after a long day, when you miss their school play because of a work obligation, when you're too tired to play another game of Candy Land, Fortnite, or Mario Kart. It's mom guilt, that nagging sense that you're somehow failing at this whole parenting thing. The truth is, all moms experience it at one time or another.

Mom guilt can stem from many situations — going back to work and leaving kids with caregivers, missing milestones because of unavoidable conflicts, not having enough energy or patience at the end of a draining day. Some mothers also feel guilty for caving to screen time, serving frozen meals instead of home-cooked dinners, or not keeping a perpetually clean, organized home.

Whatever the cause, mental health experts agree that chronic mom guilt can take a serious emotional toll. It can lead to anxiety, depression, burnout, and even undermine your confidence as a parent. So how can you keep those nagging guilty feelings in check?

Be Realistic

Those idyllic social media scenes you scroll past? They're highly curated versions of reality. Remind yourself that no mom is perfect, no household runs smoothly 100% of the time, and a little chaos is normal (and sometimes even good!) when raising kids.

Identify Your Triggers

For many women, guilt strikes when they have to divide their time between kids and career. Others feel worse when their kids are acting out or pushing boundaries. Pay attention to your personal guilt instigators, then reframe your thinking. For instance, working moms need to recognize their employment makes important contributions to the family. Moms of strong-willed kids can remind themselves that tantrums are natural and not reflective of their parenting.

Practice Self-Compassion

Generally speaking, mothers tend to be excellent at extending compassion to their children, but often struggle being kind to themselves. Make a conscious effort to silence that cruel inner voice, and whenever you start berating yourself, visualize how you'd respond if your own child made a mistake. You'd avoid harsh judgment and criticism. Extend that same empathy inwards.

Let Go of Perfectionism

Deep down, we all want to be the perfect mom — to always remain calm and nurturing, to never feel overwhelmed or exhausted. But striving for an unrealistic ideal only breeds more guilt when you fall short. But let’s be real, perfect isn’t happening. Learn to embrace being a 'good enough' mom — meaning, meeting your child's most important needs while cutting yourself some slack on the rest. You’re doing great, Mama, seriously.

Don't Go It Alone

Whether it's your partner, a fellow parent friend, or an online group, having a support system is vital. Share your insecurities about not measuring up. You'll likely find everyone else is feeling guilty, too.

Reaching out for help around the house or with child care can further ease the mental burden. If possible, take breaks by yourself to recharge. And perhaps most importantly, don't let guilt cast a cloud over your joy in motherhood. At the end of the day, our kids need us to be happy, imperfect moms.

Out of Nowhere

Working as a Legal Assistant at a prestigious law firm is no small task, but I was confident. On this particular morning, Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, I was feeling especially empowered. It was early in the day, and I had accomplished much already. Just before noon, I took a bathroom break. I remember looking in the mirror and saying to myself, “You are killing it!”

Back at my desk, BOOM! Out of nowhere, I was hit on the left side of my head with the most excruciating headache pain I’ve ever felt. I have experienced two or three legitimate migraines throughout my life and was convinced that’s what was happening. Just a migraine, albeit the worst one yet.

The pain was intense. I rested my head on my desk. My body felt weak. I tried to stand up, but nausea sat me back down. I knew I was in trouble. I called my son, Dylan, at work. I explained what was happening, and he was on his way. I then called a coworker. She immediately came to my desk to help. She and another coworker wheeled me down to the lobby in my office chair. I was holding a plastic grocery bag in my hand in case I got sick.

I remember feeling so embarrassed to have people see me in that weakened state. I am a strong and mighty Leo, and having people see me so vulnerable and ill was difficult.

When Dylan arrived, I was able to get into the car, but as soon as I was seated, I vomited profusely into the plastic bag. He asked if we should go to the ER, and I said no, still convinced it was a migraine.

As soon as I walked into my house, I changed clothes and fell into bed. Dylan had to get back to work ASAP. My daughter, Dakota, was out of town, so I was home alone for a few hours. I did not sleep, but I rested. After a few hours, I Googled the difference between migraine and stroke symptoms. One of the key symptoms of stroke is “the worst headache pain that hits you out of nowhere.” WHOA. When Dylan got home, we decided to go to the ER to rule out anything bad or dangerous.

Upon arrival, my blood pressure was quite elevated. They took me back for a CAT scan, then immediately into a room. That’s when my world changed forever. “YOU HAVE BLEEDING IN YOUR BRAIN.” Dread washed over me. I looked at Dylan and told him to start calling family.

After four days in the ICU, for a total of two weeks in the hospital, this is what I know. I had a hemorrhagic stroke in my cerebellum. It was not caused by high blood pressure. It was not an aneurysm. There is more testing to be done, but at this point, it looks like a fluke. A random blood vessel burst for no apparent reason. “Resume life as before” is the directive. But trauma changes you, and this experience has changed me. I feel different. No longer formidable.

Strokes can happen to anyone, not just the elderly. I’m only 54 years old. I’m fortunate to not have any lasting effects of stroke. However, 26% of people who suffer the same type of stroke that I did, don’t even survive. I count myself very lucky.

Strokes are not to be taken lightly. Take extreme headache pain very seriously. It could very well save your life. Deciding to rule out “anything bad or dangerous” is what saved mine.

The CDC lists the following as stroke signs and symptoms:

• Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.

• Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech.

• Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.

• Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or lack of coordination.

• Sudden severe headache with no known cause.

According to the CDC, the stroke treatments that work best are available only if the stroke is recognized and diagnosed within 3 hours of the first symptoms. Stroke patients may not be eligible for these if they don’t arrive at the hospital in time.

If you think someone may be having a stroke, act F.A.S.T. and do the following test:

F — Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A — Arms: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S — Speech: Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T — Time: If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

Note the time when any symptoms first appear. This information helps health care providers determine the best treatment for each person. Do not drive to the hospital or let someone else drive you. Call 9-1-1 for an ambulance so that medical personnel can begin life-saving treatment on the way to the emergency room.

Budget-Friendly

Feeling uninspired by your outdated kitchen or drab living room, but don't have the funds for a full-scale renovation? You don't need to spend a fortune to breathe new life into tired living spaces. With some smart, budget-friendly tweaks, you can achieve a dramatic home makeover without draining your savings account.

Paint With Intention

A simple coat of fresh paint can revive a room in an inexpensive yet high-impact way. Rather than just going with a new neutral shade, get creative with bolder color choices. An accent wall in a rich, saturated hue can completely transform the vibe. Or create a more modern feel by painting cabinets and trim in a chic new color like navy or charcoal gray. Interior designers recommend using removable paint sample decals first to test out how different colors will look before committing. For an on-trend look, you can even blend a couple coordinating shades with geometric designs for a painted accent wall.

Update Window Treatments

Those basic aluminum blinds and outdated curtains are doing your rooms no favors. Replace them with budget-friendly new window treatments to enhance natural light and ambiance. Plantation shutters are a smart investment that adds polish and value to a space if you buy a composite wood rather than real wood material. For rentals or if shutters are too pricey, cloth curtains or woven shades provide warmth and texture. Hang curtain rods as close to the ceiling as possible to create the illusion of taller ceilings.

Upgrade Light Fixtures

That old basic flush-mounted ceiling fixture has got to go. Replacing dated overhead lighting is an easy upgrade to achieve an upscale ambiance affordably. These days you can find chic yet inexpensive light fixture options like rattan or beaded chandeliers. Modern semi-flush mounts or track lighting also enhance mood and atmosphere. Many DIYers replace old fixtures themselves by watching online tutorials and buying from big box hardware stores. An easy hack is spray painting outdated brass fixtures in an on-trend black matte finish, saving considerable money over hiring an electrician.

Refresh With Plants

For an instant infusion of life and color, decorate with houseplants. Not only do leafy green plant companions breathe vibrancy into spaces, but certain varieties have been scientifically proven to help filter indoor air pollutants too. Low-maintenance yet visually impactful plant picks include Chinese Evergreens, Snake Plants, and Pothos Plants. Accent them with inexpensive baskets or colorful ceramic planters for added style.

Mix in Modern Textiles

If your furniture is looking drab and uninviting, you don't need to invest in all new pieces. A budget-friendly way to completely refresh the vibe is with new textiles like throw pillows, area rugs, and cozy throw blankets. Hit up discount retailers or thrift stores for coordinating pillow and rug bundles at a fraction of the cost. Layer these inexpensive pieces into your existing furniture setup to revive the entire aesthetic with texture and visual interest.

Go Thrifting to Fill-in the Blanks

One of the best ways to inject personality and style into your space on a budget is by thrifting for unique, vintage decor pieces. Local thrift stores, flea markets, antique malls, and online marketplaces are goldmines for affordable yet distinctive

home accents. Scout for solid wood furniture like dressers, nightstands, or side tables that could use a simple refresh with paint, new hardware or a light sanding. Antique wooden chairs can be reupholstered for a fraction of the cost of new. Scour for vintage rugs, lamps, artwork, and other eclectic accent pieces to make your space feel curated and one-of-a-kind.

The secret to any budget-savvy home makeover is getting creative and strategic with bite-sized upgrades rather than a total overhaul. With some resourcefulness, imagination, and a bit of DIY effort, you can dramatically elevate any living space into a refreshed, beautiful new oasis without demolishing your bank account. That's a transformation worth celebrating!

Party

| The Art of Hosting www.ScarlettMag.com
written by: Colleen Gillespie

As any good hostess knows, sending guests home with a thoughtful parting gift is the perfect way to end a gathering on a sweet note. Party favors are an enduring tradition allowing hosts to express their gratitude while giving attendees a memento to remember the occasion. With a little creativity and planning, you can find favors suited to any budget that will delight and charm your guests.

For the Cost-Conscious

You don't need to break the bank to offer guests a charming takeaway. Homemade treats make delightful and affordable favors. Send friends home with a jar of your grandma's famous strawberry jam or a bag of your signature spiced nuts tied up with a pretty ribbon. You can also get creative with baking and package up cookies, miniature pies, or quick breads in decorative boxes or tins. Another inexpensive option is to look to nature's bounty. Seasonal produce like crisp apples, juicy clementines, or pomegranates are fresh, healthy, and ecofriendly. If you have a talent for crafting, put those skills to use by making favors by hand. And you can never go wrong with a hand-written note thanking each guest for attending. These personal touches create memorable keepsakes.

Mid-Range Indulgences

For a slightly larger investment, you can treat guests to enticing culinary indulgences. Fill decorative tins or jars with premium teas, flavored salts, or local gourmet or customized baked goods. Create a themed gift basket filled with complementary goods like olive oils with crusty bread and flavored vinegars or cocktail mixers and fancy snacks. Pampering items like luxurious soaps, bath salts, and lotions also make appealing mid-range favors. Package them together for a relaxing spa kit. Consider small succulents or flowering bulbs presented in chic pots for a touch of nature to go home with each guest.

Lavish Treasures

For no-expense-spared events, impress attendees with high-end favors that serve as tangible mementos. Engrave bottles of fine wine, liquor, or olive oil with a custom message commemorating the occasion. Commission an artist to create mini watercolor paintings, prints, or drawings for guests to keep. Or really wow your circle by having a jeweler customize necklaces or bracelets with your event's unique insignia or attendees' initials. Monogrammed leather or fabric accessories like sleek luggage tags or elegant silk scarves could make unforgettable keepsakes. And for the ultimate splurge, offer guests the royal treatment with plush robes or cozy cashmere throws embroidered with your party's emblem.

No matter your budget, party favors allow you to express your appreciation while gifting guests lasting memories of your special celebration. With some thoughtful planning, you can create one-of-a-kind parting presents as unique as the gathering itself.

DIY Bra Sizing

Ladies, having a well-fitted bra can make all the difference in your confidence and comfort throughout the day. But with so many sizes and styles out there, finding your ideal bra match can feel like an endless struggle. And while booking an appointment with a professional fitter to determine your true bra size is certainly ideal, learning how to find your size will make it easier for you to have a starting point from the comfort of your home. Remember that bra sizes can vary between brands, so it's best to use these measurements as a starting point. If you’re ordering online, always check the size guide measurements as a reference with the measurements you take. Now, let's get measuring:

Band Size

To find your band size, grab a measuring tape and wrap it around your torso directly under your bust, making sure it's level and snug but not too tight. The number in inches is your band size. If you get an odd number, round up to the next even number.

Cup Size

Next, we'll determine your cup size. While wearing your best-fitting unpadded bra, wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust. Subtract the band size from this bust measurement, and the difference in inches will reveal your cup size (1" = A, 2" = B, 3" = C, etc.).

Put It Together

Combine your band and cup sizes (e.g., 34B, 38D) to find your starting bra size. Remember, sister sizes (like 34D and 36C) may work if the initial size doesn't feel quite right.

Do the Scoop and Swoop

Once you've settled on a potential size, it's time to put the bra to the test. Lean forward and "scoop and swoop" your breast tissue into the cups, ensuring all of your assets are properly situated. The band should feel snug on the loosest hook, and the cups should fully encapsulate your bust without gapping, cutting in, or spilling over.

As with all clothing, sizes between brands may vary, but having your measurements will make finding that perfect fit so much easier! So go ahead and treat yourself to that pretty new lingerie set — your girls deserve a bra that fits like a dream!

Celebrate

Month

Honoring the movement for LGBT+ rights and celebrating LGBT+ culture, Pride Month began after the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in Lower Manhattan, New York, in June 1969. The following year, the first pride marches were held in several U.S. cities as a commemoration of the "Christopher Street Liberation Day" riots, and as a way for the LGBT+ community and their families to celebrate.

Stretch

| Body Talk
www.ScarlettMag.com
written by: Molly Rivers

Whether from pregnancy, puberty, or just good oldfashioned weight fluctuations, many of us have experienced these permanent reminders of our bodies' amazing ability to grow and change over time. But why do stretch marks form in the first place? Stretch marks, known medically as striae, occur when the skin is stretched rapidly and the elastic-like tissue under the surface (the dermis) gets torn. This disrupts the collagen fibers, resulting in that purplish or reddish line at first that eventually fades to a silvery scar-like streak.

Upwards of 90% of pregnant women will get stretch marks, usually appearing on the belly first but also frequently striping the breasts, thighs, and butt. Teen girls and guys hitting puberty are also prime targets, with stretch marks cropping up on the upper arms, back, and hip areas as they experience sudden growth spurts.

While stretch marks are extremely common and natural, that doesn't mean many people aren’t still uncomfortable with them. Fortunately, there are steps we can take to potentially minimize their appearance.

Stay Hydrated

I mean, this one is just a good tip all around! Drinking plenty of water helps nourish skin and may allow it to better stretch without tearing. Moisturizing skin regularly with cocoa butter, vitamin E oil, or other thick emollients can help too.

Avoid Rapid Weight Gain

Steady gradual weight gain, for example, is less likely to cause stretch marks than a yo-yo pattern of fast gain/loss cycles that quickly stretches then relaxes skin.

Try Retinoids

These vitamin A derivatives found in many over-the-counter anti-aging creams may help rebuild collagen and make stretch marks look less pronounced over time with regular use. Always check with your doctor or dermatologist to make sure they’re a good fit for you!

Consider Laser Treatments

Professional laser or light therapies can help break up stretch mark scarring and stimulate new collagen production for a smoother, more uniform skin texture and tone.

At the end of the day though, stretch marks are totally natural and simply proof that our bodies are constantly changing and growing in amazing ways. So whether you choose to conceal or flaunt them is up to you. But hopefully you can learn to appreciate them as outward symbols of the inner strength, growth, and life experiences that have shaped you into who you are today.
