—ABOUT ME— I was born in Ethiopia and grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. As the youngest of eight kids, I enjoy working with a broad range of personalities. The combination of creativity and psychology to form atmospheres that positively impact people is what led me to interior design.
—DESIGN PHILOSOPHY— I believe effective design is a mosaic. PROCESS I believe that design is strengthened by a deep exploration of research, media, and other disciplines. The fitting together of diverse components allows for creative questions and innovative solutions. This abstract process allows for a domino effect of unique findings to influence a user’s experience. USERS The world we design for is diverse, and I believe that design should reflect this. The awareness of race, gender, age, sexuality, culture, neurodiversity, and physiological diversity allow for more inclusive spaces. I believe that a stronger understanding of the user’s needs leads to more responsive interiors. A complex process is important when designing an interior that supports the intersectionality of humanity.

CLIENT:
Guo Pei, Haute Couture Fashion Designer PROJECT GOALS: • interesect Guo Pei's process with my own • continuous manipulation of form • create public and private zones
— FASHION GALLERY —
INTERSECTION OF PROCESS
The inspiration behind this project came from a collection of Guo Pei's couture gowns. Digital textures were made from swatches of the gowns and were used in the design process. Overlaying of digital textures and manipulation of physical models were implemented in the site to replicate Guo Pei’s 2D and 3D hybrid design process. PATTERN

3D MANIPULATION
GALLERY Guo Pei often uses weaving as a mechanism to construct her gowns .The strategy of weaving is brought into the interior through bamboo and steel wiring that are woven throughout the space. The woven structure is used as a showcasing device for Guo Pei’s gowns and fabrics.
FITTING ROOM Parts of the woven structure become solid shells to allow for privacy in the fitting room. The left wall acts as a mirror for Guo Pei’s clients.

CTION REQUIIM The idea of luminous tunnels is displayed in the underground requiim. A ribbon of canvas intertwines in the space, allowing projections of May 4th to be visible to visitors. Crystal like glass serves as the material for the tunnel structure. Overarching, glimmering forms envelope the user within the space, allowing the user to reflect in front of the projection ribbon or to the side privately.

ATION, CLEANLINESS, & SUSTAINABILITY RAMP AS A SOCIAL DEVICE The ramp is 7.5' wide at its narrowest part, making it Covid friendly to travel on. The elevated interactive space allows the staff to engage with VR, AR, and an interactive touch screen. The embedded isolated think zones can also be used as meditation spaces. The placement of the employee lounge in the center of the ramp encourages users to stop and socialize with each other. These embedded spaces allows this ramp to be more than just a circulation device, but a sociability device as well. The use of self cleaning copper to line the glass railing and to coat the underside of the ramp allows the light to glimmer and reflect off of it. The white cork ramp is an enviornmentally friendly, acoustically considerate device that promotes wellbeing.

MOBILE RECEPTION This mobile reception is composed of four parts: a mini gallery space, two reception desks, and a seating area. The occupants complete the cross motif by walking through and interacting with the mobile reception. The reception can be used both indoors and outdoors, making it ideal for Italy’s climate. Welded pipes reflect an innovative prison bar, forming elegant reception desks. The welded pipes also act as supports for advertisements and art.

WITH MARYAM ALSHIRAWI)
PLIABILITY Through manipulation of form, movable surfaces, spatial proximities, transition points, and spaces within spaces this design offers pliability. This is meant to be a space that accomodates to the student's needs, rather than forcing the students to accomodate to the building's needs. The students will have agency in deciding how much stimuli they will be interacting with.
ACTIVITY CLOCK The clock icons correspond with the door icons, serving as a visual navigation tool and activity organizer.
PARALLEL PLAY A glass panel inlaid in the geometric wall allows the students to view each other from the interior and exterior and match each other’s movements.
GROSS MOTOR ROOM Organization is based on a scale of motor skills with a deployable resting zone in the center that allows for glimpses of observation through the window. The interior and exterior are mirrored.
GROSS MOTOR & PRESCHOOL ROOM Pliability and sensory zoning are displayed through spatial proximities and flexible seating options. The preschooloers can move curtains and smoothly transition through active zones.
