Emergency Preparedness Workshop

In collaboration with the Scarborough Age Friendly Committee, the Scarborough Fire Department, Public Library, Community Services, and Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency are hosting a free personal emergency preparedness workshop. The event will cover how to build an emergency kit, create communication plans, protect loved ones and valuables, and find local resources.

Volunteers will also be on hand to assist with registration for the Code Red emergency notification system. No registration required.

Stone Mountain Arts Center

Nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains in Brownfield, Maine, the Stone Mountain Arts Center is a beautiful timber frame music hall hosting national acts up close and personal in an equally beautiful setting. For just one day, it will be our very own performance venue where we will enjoy the generous portions of a homestyle chicken luncheon while we listen to Carol Noonan perform traditional holiday music.

Victoria Mansion

Experience the magic of the holiday season at Portland’s historic Victoria Mansion. Every year local florists, designers, and artists transform the Mansion’s interior with exquisite decorations inspired by Victorian-era elegance. Enjoy a self-paced, 45-minute tour, with knowledgeable docents stationed throughout to share the history and architectural details of this Portland landmark. We will grab lunch after the visit.

Victoria Mansion is accessible on the first floor via a lift, but the second floor is only accessible by a set of 22 gradual stairs.

Join us for the 9th Annual Festival of Trees at Settlers Green Outlet Village in Conway, NH! National Weather Service

Have you ever wondered what tools forecasters use to predict the weather? Join us for a tour of the National Weather Service in Gray, where they not only provide information about weather events, they also conduct research and gather data about the oceans, atmosphere, space, and the sun. We will learn about what they do and about their tools and techniques. After our tour, we will stop at the Pineland Farms campus for lunch.

Maine Needham Company Tour

Join us for a visit to the Maine Needham Company factory and store and learn about the quintessential Maine potato candy. Our visit will include a brief history of the Maine Needham, information on how the company was started, and what they are working toward. We will also have an opportunity to see the production and packing process. We will grab lunch in the area after the tour.

We will be walking or standing during the 60-minute tour.

Participants must be able to wear food safety gloves and a hair net, if needed.

Titanic Exhibition

Join us for a motorcoach ride to Boston to see the interactive Titanic Exhibition. Explore the ship’s interior and exterior, peer into cabins, and learn about passengers and crew through authentic artifacts recovered from the North Atlantic.

Visitors will receive a replica boarding pass, assume the role of a passenger, and follow a chronological journey through life on “the unsinkable” ship, the Titanic.

Afterward, we will have two hours of free time to find lunch and shop at the Boston Public Market, an indoor marketplace featuring over 30 New England artisans and food producers.

Bowdoin Arctic Museum

Join us for a visit to the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum at Bowdoin College. Named after famous explorers and Bowdoin alumni, Robert E. Peary and Donald B. MacMillan, the museum showcases a diverse collection of over 41,000 artifacts relating to exploration and research in the Arctic.

Objects in the permanent collection and rotating exhibits include contemporary Canadian Inuit and Alaskan Yup’ik and Iñupiat art, anthropological objects, films, photographs, and more. We will grab lunch after our visit.

Madeleines

at Portland Stage Enjoy a heartfelt new work by Maine playwright, Bess Welden. Madeleines tells the story of Debra and Jennifer, two sisters grieving the death of their mother, a professional baker. When a secret hidden among their mother’s recipes is discovered, the siblings fracture and their understanding of family is put to the test. A play about sweets, familial rivalry, and learning to let go, Welden’s work asks us to examine how and what we forgive.

Are you joining our bus trip to Cape Cod? Join us for an informative meet and greet session with the trip coordinator! This casual event is an opportunity to learn more about the trip itinerary, accommodations, transportation, and any other details you're curious about. Get to know fellow travelers and address any questions or concerns you may have before embarking on this unforgettable journey to Cape Cod!

Cape Cod & Martha’s Vineyard

Explore Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard with Scarborough Community Services! The trip includes a guided tour of the historic villages of Sandwich and Hyannis and a visit to the JFK Museum. We will also see panoramic views of the Atlantic from Chatham, Provincetown, Cape Cod National Seashore, Marconi Station and the Eastham Windmill. We will take a ferry ride to Martha’s Vineyard and have free time to explore the unique shops, quaint restaurants and historical sites.

This trip is three days/two nights and includes coach bus transportation, accommodation in a Cape Cod area hotel, and 2 meals (2 breakfasts, 2 dinners). Lunches will be on your own. We will not know our hotel location or exact itinerary until about 3 weeks prior to our trip, but big chains are not part of the landscape. Our hotel accommodations will be clean, comfortable and with Cape Cod charm.

The trip requires a fair amount of walking, sometimes over uneven ground, and participants will need to be able to board and exit from a coach bus without assistance.

Iceland’s Magical Northern Lights

Experience the “land of fire and ice” and chase the aurora borealis across an ethereal wonderland. In the dark of the night, search for the northern lights as you drift along on an evening starlit cruise. Travel the “Golden Circle,” home to renowned natural wonders, and spend time at Thingvellir National Park, gaze at Gullfoss waterfall, and see the explosive geothermal fields at Geysir. Explore Skógar Museum and see traditional turf-built homes. Walk on a black volcanic sand beach. See Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs. SCS will pick up and depart from the Middle School at 1:00 pm.

Ice Skating

Let’s enjoy winter in Maine with an afternoon of ice skating at the Lee Twombly Pond in Falmouth. Participants will need to bring their own ice skates. Rental skates are not available.

Join us for a season of dribbles, passes, and slam-dunk smiles! In this program, players will be grouped in grade-level teams and focus on basic skill development and teamwork.

Grades PreK-K will be co-ed teams. Grades PreK-K and Grades 1-2 will have a practice followed by a game each Saturday. Grades 3-4 and Grades 5-6 will have one weekly practice with a Saturday game. If enrollment is low for Grades 5-6, participants will receive a one-hour skills session during the week and new teams will be picked each game.

SCHEDULE

Time and location for games will vary based on division and gym availability. Games are typically held no earlier than 8:00 am and are played no later than 4:00 pm. Detailed information will be available on our website closer to the program start date.

SPECIAL REQUEST POLICY

One special request (coach or player only) may be entered at registration for Grades PreK-K and Grades 1-2. We cannot guarantee requests. No special requests for Grades 3-6.

COACHES’ MEETING

The coaches’ meeting will be held prior to the start of the season. Coaches will be in touch with families shortly thereafter either by email or phone. The date and location of the meeting are to be determined.

Santa in the Park

Bundle up the family and head to Memorial Park to welcome Santa and Mrs. Claus to Scarborough! Shuttles from the High School parking lot will begin making their rounds at 4:30 PM. We’ll be getting in the Holiday spirit with sweet treats, activities, music, fireworks, and more!

This year we will be kicking off our event with fireworks at 5:00 pm. During that time shuttles and walking down to the park will be paused to ensure safety of attendees. Please make sure to arrive early if you want to see the show!

Planning international travel? For your convenience, Scarborough Community Services accepts passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Department of State.

Appointments are scheduled throughout the day in 30-minute intervals, which is usually plenty of time to process applications for individuals as well as families. All appointments take place at the Scarborough Community Services Hub, located at 418 Payne Road. Call 207-730-4150 to schedule.

What You Need to Bring APPLICANT

Anyone applying for a passport, including newborn babies, must be present for the passport acceptance.

MINORS AGE 15 & UNDER It is REQUIRED that minors apply in person with both parents listed on their birth certificates. If both parents cannot be present, additional documentation must be completed or presented.

ADULTS AGE 16 & 17 It is recommended that one parent be present at the appointment to show parental awareness. This can also be done by writing the check for the passport or putting a parent down as the emergency contact on the form.

Public parking on Avenue 5 • A long sandy beach on Saco Bay that extends from the jetty at Pine Point to Old Orchard Beach.

Ferry Beach

Public parking at 50 Ferry Road • A sandy beach along the Scarborough River channel known for its calm waves shallower waters at low tide.

Higgins Beach

Public parking at 41 Ocean Avenue • A sandy beach located within a quaint residential neighborhood that dates back to the late 1800s.

Each municipal parking lot has public restrooms and showers open during the summer season.

Field & Facility Reservations

Community Services has made booking a field or facility simpler by allowing online reservation requests! Using your organization’s username and password, you are able to log onto our online reservation system on our website and access the following features: Update your organization’s contact information.

We ask that each group or organization only maintain one primary contact person to keep communications consistent throughout the reservation process.
