In collaboration with the Scarborough Age Friendly Committee, the Scarborough Fire Department, Public Library, Community Services, and Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency are hosting a free personal emergency preparedness workshop. The event will cover how to build an emergency kit, create communication plans, protect loved ones and valuables, and find local resources. Volunteers will also be on hand to assist with registration for the Code Red emergency notification system. No registration required.

Nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains in Brownfield, Maine, the Stone Mountain Arts Center is a beautiful timber frame music hall hosting national acts up close and personal in an equally beautiful setting. Join us for a visit to the Maine Needham Company factory and store and learn about the quintessential Maine potato candy. Titanic Exhibition

Join us for a motorcoach ride to Boston to see the interactive Titanic Exhibition. Explore the ship’s interior and exterior, peer into cabins, and learn about passengers and crew through authentic artifacts recovered from the North Atlantic. Visitors will receive a replica boarding pass, assume the role of a passenger, and follow a chronological journey through life on “the unsinkable” ship, the Titanic.

Cape Cod & Martha’s Vineyard

Explore Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard with Scarborough Community Services! The trip includes a guided tour of the historic villages of Sandwich and Hyannis and a visit to the JFK Museum. We will also see panoramic views of the Atlantic from Chatham, Provincetown, Cape Cod National Seashore, Marconi Station and the Eastham Windmill. We will take a ferry ride to Martha’s Vineyard and have free time to explore the unique shops, quaint restaurants and historical sites.

This trip is three days/two nights and includes coach bus transportation, accommodation in a Cape Cod area hotel, and 2 meals (2 breakfasts, 2 dinners). Lunches will be on your own. We will not know our hotel location or exact itinerary until about 3 weeks prior to our trip, but big chains are not part of the landscape. Our hotel accommodations will be clean, comfortable and with Cape Cod charm.

The trip requires a fair amount of walking, sometimes over uneven ground, and participants will need to be able to board and exit from a coach bus without assistance.

Iceland’s Magical Northern Lights

Experience the “land of fire and ice” and chase the aurora borealis across an ethereal wonderland. Join us for a season of dribbles, passes, and slam-dunk smiles! In this program, players will be grouped in grade-level teams and focus on basic skill development and teamwork.

Grades PreK-K will be co-ed teams. Grades PreK-K and Grades 1-2 will have a practice followed by a game each Saturday. Grades 3-4 and Grades 5-6 will have one weekly practice with a Saturday game. If enrollment is low for Grades 5-6, participants will receive a one-hour skills session during the week and new teams will be picked each game.

SCHEDULE

Time and location for games will vary based on division and gym availability. Games are typically held no earlier than 8:00 am and are played no later than 4:00 pm. Detailed information will be available on our website closer to the program start date.

SPECIAL REQUEST POLICY

One special request (coach or player only) may be entered at registration for Grades PreK-K and Grades 1-2. We cannot guarantee requests. No special requests for Grades 3-6.

COACHES’ MEETING

The coaches’ meeting will be held prior to the start of the season. Coaches will be in touch with families shortly thereafter either by email or phone. The date and location of the meeting are to be determined.

Softball Pitching Clinic

Scarborough girls in Grades 2-8 are invited to join this softball pitching clinic, designed to teach the fundamentals of windmill-style pitching. Each session will focus on technique, pitching, and fielding skills. Instructor: Varsity Softball Coach Brian Rice.

Participants are required to bring a catcher with them each week. This program is only available to Scarborough residents.

Mad Science: Crazy Chemworks!

In this program, children make gooey slime, experiment with different reactions and learn to use the tools that chemists use. Polymers and catalysts are only two of the fascinating concepts young scientists explore in this thrilling trip through the chemistry lab. Passport Day

Planning your next trip? Scarborough Community Services is hosting a Passport Acceptance Fair to assist individuals and families with the acceptance of U.S. passport applications. No appointment needed for this event. We will have all necessary forms available for your convenience, but we HIGHLY recommend checking all requirements and fees prior to the event. Santa in the Park

Bundle up the family and head to Memorial Park to welcome Santa and Mrs. Claus to Scarborough! Shuttles from the High School parking lot will begin making their rounds at 4:30 PM. We’ll be getting in the Holiday spirit with sweet treats, activities, music, fireworks, and more!

This year we will be kicking off our event with fireworks at 5:00 pm. During that time shuttles and walking down to the park will be paused to ensure safety of attendees. Please make sure to arrive early if you want to see the show!

Planning international travel? For your convenience, Scarborough Community Services accepts passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Department of State.

Appointments are scheduled throughout the day in 30-minute intervals, which is usually plenty of time to process applications for individuals as well as families. All appointments take place at the Scarborough Community Services Hub, located at 418 Payne Road. Call 207-730-4150 to schedule.

What You Need to Bring

APPLICANT

Anyone applying for a passport, including newborn babies, must be present for the passport acceptance.

MINORS AGE 15 & UNDER

It is REQUIRED that minors apply in person with both parents listed on their birth certificates. If both parents cannot be present, additional documentation must be completed or presented.

ADULTS AGE 16 & 17

It is recommended that one parent be present at the appointment to show parental awareness. This can also be done by writing the check for the passport or putting a parent down as the emergency contact on the form.

PROOF OF U.S. CITIZENSHIP

Certified U.S. birth certificate OR previous U.S. Passport.

PHOTO IDENTIFICATION

Maine driver’s license or Maine ID (If you only have an out-of-state driver’s license, you must bring additional photo ID).

• A long sandy beach on Saco Bay that extends from the jetty at Pine Point to Old Orchard Beach.

Ferry Beach

• A sandy beach along the Scarborough River channel known for its calm waves shallower waters at low tide.

Higgins Beach

Public parking at 41 Ocean Avenue

• A sandy beach located within a quaint residential neighborhood that dates back to the late 1800s.

Each municipal parking lot has public restrooms and showers open during the summer season.

DOGS ON BEACH REMINDER

Furry friends are welcome at the beaches all hours of the day after Labor Day, but please keep in mind the leash rules for the time of day.

Community Services has made booking a field or facility simpler by allowing online reservation requests! Using your organization’s username and password, you are able to log onto our online reservation system on our website and access the following features:

Update your organization’s contact information. We ask that each group or organization only maintain one primary contact person to keep communications consistent throughout the reservation process.

Check field and facility availability in real-time.

Print request confirmation for your records.

Make a payment for reservation online using a debit or credit card.
