Into the Woods USM Theatre

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless yet relevant piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows the Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, they set off on a journey to break it. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. Directed by Elizabeth Carlson.

When the leading lady mysteriously dies on stage, the entire cast and crew are suspects. Enter a local detective, who just happens to be a musical theater fan and the backstage mayhem commences! The Osher School of Music and the Department of Theatre and Dance present a dynamic, collaborative re-imagining of one of ancient Greece’s most iconic myths. Eurydice Rising pulls from a diverse body of work surrounding Orpheus’s journey into the underworld to be reunited with his young bride. Theirs is a journey of love, loss, and creative expression that exceeds the bounds of life and death, presence and absence. At its core, the Orphic cycle is an exploration of art and music as restorative, life-affirming acts, so powerful that they might reopen stories that seem to have concluded and transform death itself to an opportunity for new life. Directed by Rachel Price Cooper. Musical Direction by Malinda Hasslett.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Interested in working for us? We are always on the look out for dedicated individuals interested in the parks and rec world.

Whether it’s child care, parks maintenance, beaches, cable tv, or recreation, we would love for you to join our team!

HELP US, HELP YOU!

Clean up after your pets and help keep the watershed healthy for humans, fish and wildlife.

Besides being unpleasant to the eyes and nose, pet waste is an environmental pollutant that can cause serious harm to Maine’s waterways. A quick rain is all it takes to transfer dog droppings from the ground into our streams, rivers, lakes, and ocean. Pet waste carries bacteria, viruses and parasites that threaten the health of humans and wildlife. By scooping the poop you are removing harmful nutrients and bacteria from local waterways keeping our citizens healthy and our yards and shoes clean.

Help Stop the Poo-llution!

• Make use of the provided poop bag dispensers at all of our beaches and parks or bring your own. Take multiple bags on walks, just in case.

• Tie the bags shut and dispose in a trash receptacle. Do not drop bags to the side of the trash receptacle, into the trees, or off to the side of a trail.

• Never throw pet poop in a compost pile.

• Educate your children on the importance of picking up after your pets.
