Pineland Farms Garden Tour

Discover the beauty of the Pineland Farms Garden on a selfguided tour of the acre of gardens. Benches are placed along the quarter-mile of paved walkways. Highlights include more than 130 varieties of perennials, 6,000 flowering annuals, blueberry bushes, apple trees, and an ornamental conifer bed. Knowledgeable Pineland Farms staff will be there to answer any garden-related questions. Light refreshments will be served, including Pineland Farms award-winning cheeses.

Maine Yarn “Cruise”

Join us for a couple of stops on the Maine Yarn “Cruise.” Our trip will start with a visit to Fiber & Vine in Norway, then on to a tour of the fiber mill and shop at Good Karma in Bridgton, where you can find lunch while in town.

Each participant will receive a Yarn Cruise tote bag which typically includes patterns and coupons from sponsors, and an individual registration number which you can enter at participating shops for raffle prizes.

Join us for a scenic ride to the 6288’ summit of Mount Washington, the highest mountain peak in the Northeast, powered by a custom-built biodiesel locomotive! The approx. three-hour round trip is a journey through history, technology and nature. The ascent and return each take approximately 45 minutes and we will have about an hour to eat lunch and explore the breathtaking views from the summit. Hawaiian-Themed Luau

Say “aloha” to Summer and “aloha” to Fall, with a Hawaiianthemed celebration at the picturesque Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth.

We will join our friends from area recreation departments in games, a ukelele-led sing-along, and meal which will include roasted pig, fresh fruit, cheese and crackers, Pacific rim slaw, garlic rice, stir fried vegetables, and beverages.

The pig roast is being catered by The Pig Kahuna, who will be using their custom-made, open-air rotisserie-style roaster that allows you to see the pig cooking while it spins over open flames. It’s not just a meal; it’s a sensory experience like no other.

Saco Heath Preserve Walk

Join us for a visit to the Saco Heath Preserve and experience the beauty of a Maine bog in the fall. The loop trail is 2 miles long (approx. 1 mile out and 1 mile back) and is a mostly gravel, dirt, or wooden path with possible exposed roots in places. There are several short boardwalk sections spanning wet areas with benches placed every 500 feet along the route.

The trail features fascinating plants and animals that are adapted to thrive in the nutrient-poor soils of the bog. After our walk we will find lunch before heading home.

Enjoy a complete traditional turkey dinner aboard the popular Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad Trains, catered by Hart’s Turkey Farm! Join us for gravity-defying acrobatics, astonishing human pyramids, Afro-jazz, percussion and kora, a stringed instrument used extensively in West Africa. Cirque Kalabanté is the creation of Guinean artist Yamoussa Bangoura, an alum of Cirque Éloize and Cirque Baobab who has also performed with Cirque du Soleil. Cape Cod & Martha’s Vineyard

Explore Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard with Scarborough Community Services! The trip includes a guided tour of the historic villages of Sandwich and Hyannis and a visit to the JFK Museum. We will also see panoramic views of the Atlantic from Chatham, Provincetown, Cape Cod National Seashore, Marconi Station and the Eastham Windmill. We will take a ferry ride to Martha’s Vineyard and have free time to explore the unique shops, quaint restaurants and historical sites.

This trip is three days/two nights and includes coach bus transportation, accommodation in a Cape Cod area hotel, and 2 meals (2 breakfasts, 2 dinners). Lunches will be on your own. We will not know our hotel location or exact itinerary until about 3 weeks prior to our trip, but big chains are not part of the landscape. Our hotel accommodations will be clean, comfortable and with Cape Cod charm.

The trip requires a fair amount of walking, sometimes over uneven ground, and participants will need to be able to board and exit from a coach bus without assistance.

Tennis in the Parks

This tennis program is perfect for first-time or beginner tennis players. Led by approved USTA tennis coaches, this program uses modified tennis balls, age-appropriate rackets, court sizes, and the latest fun and engaging activities that help players successfully learn and play! Instructor: USTA tennis coaches.

Participants will receive a new age-appropriate racket and ball to keep.

Field Hockey Clinic

Come learn the basic skills required to play field hockey at these weekly sessions. Children will be grouped by grade level to work on individual and team skills. There will be some Sunday play dates at surrounding communities for this program (dates, times, and locations TBD). Instructor: Varsity Field Hockey Coach Kyla Wigant.

Participants are required to bring a stick, mouth guard and shin guards. Goggles are recommended but not required. Limited sticks available for use.

Summerfest 2024

Grab your family and friends and join us for our annual Summerfest event! Festivities begin at the Clifford Mitchell Sports Complex at 5:00 pm and feature a road race, music from Springsteen Road, food, games, and so much more. Planning international travel? For your convenience, Scarborough Community Services accepts passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Department of State.

Appointments are scheduled throughout the day in 30-minute intervals, which is usually plenty of time to process applications for individuals as well as families. All appointments take place at the Scarborough Community Services Hub, located at 417 Payne Road. Call 207-730-4150 to schedule.

What You Need to Bring

APPLICANT

Anyone applying for a passport, including newborn babies, must be present for the passport acceptance.

MINORS AGE 15 & UNDER

It is REQUIRED that minors apply in person with both parents listed on their birth certificates. If both parents cannot be present, additional documentation must be completed or presented.

ADULTS AGE 16 & 17

It is recommended that one parent be present at the appointment to show parental awareness. This can also be done by writing the check for the passport or putting a parent down as the emergency contact on the form.

PROOF OF U.S. CITIZENSHIP

Certified U.S. birth certificate OR previous U.S. Passport.

PHOTO IDENTIFICATION

Maine driver’s license or Maine ID (If you only have an out-of-state driver’s license, you must bring additional photo ID).

• A long sandy beach on Saco Bay that extends from the jetty at Pine Point to Old Orchard Beach.

Ferry Beach

• A sandy beach along the Scarborough River channel known for its calm waves shallower waters at low tide.

Higgins Beach

Public parking at 41 Ocean Avenue

• A sandy beach located within a quaint residential neighborhood that dates back to the late 1800s.

Each municipal parking lot has public restrooms and showers open during the summer season.

DOGS ON BEACH REMINDER

Furry friends are welcome at the beaches all hours of the day after Labor Day, but please keep in mind the leash rules for the time of day.

Community Services has made booking a field or facility simpler by allowing online reservation requests! Using your organization’s username and password, you are able to log onto our online reservation system on our website and access the following features:

Update your organization’s contact information. We ask that each group or organization only maintain one primary contact person to keep communications consistent throughout the reservation process.

Check field and facility availability in real-time.

Request a field or facility.

Print request confirmation for your records.

Make a payment for reservation online using a debit or credit card.
