4 Programs55+ The mission of the 55+ Programs is to give all seniors an opportunity to maintain dignity, enrich their quality of living, and actively promote participation in all aspects of community life. REGISTRATION Resident July 25, 2022 | Non-Resident July 29, 2022 CODE OF UPDATESCONDUCT The Town of Scarborough would like the 55+ programs’ trips, events, and activities to be a great experience for everyone involved. Help us maintain a positive and safe environment that is warm and welcoming to all senior citizens. Participants of the Scarborough 55+ Programs have the following responsibilities: Show respect to all andstaff,participants,equipment,facilities. Respectful Inclusive Be welcoming to new participants. A friendly smile goes a long way! Considerate Remember the golden rule: Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Constructive Use a constructive tone and refrain from any abusive or threatening language when reporting or addressing any issues or concerns. • Masks are recommended but not required in the SCS Hub or on our buses. • Please sanitize hands when you enter the SCS Hub or board our bus. • When we go on a field trip, we will follow the location’s mask requirements. • Registration is REQUIRED for all programs, except for Games & Gather and BINGO. • Door-to-door transportation is currently unavailable. • If you are sick, please stay home. • If we need to close the Hub due to inclement weather, we will share notifications on Channel 6, 8 and 13. Please also keep an eye on our website and Facebook page. • Please keep in mind that we may face unexpected changes to our trips that are out of our control. Your cooperation is very much appreciated.

In partnership with Southern Maine Agency on Aging, seniors 60 or older can get three pre-cooked frozen meals to enjoy when they need them. There is a $10 suggested donation. Pickity Place is a quaint red cottage in the hills of Southern New Hampshire, chosen by Elizabeth Orton Jones as the model for her illustrations in Little Red Riding Hood (Little Golden Books, 1948). Today it is a mecca for gardeners, foodies and anyone looking for inspiration and relaxation. There are two gift shops, a greenhouse, and a full dining room. We will enjoy a five-course creative cuisine featuring their freshly grown herbs and edible flowers harvested daily from their culinary garden. Included with regular Gardens admission, join us as Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens sets the stage to focus on Maine’s woods, from their history to their sustainability. The Maine Mineral & Gem Museum (MMGM) celebrates the geologic and mineralogic history of Maine and explores the origin of Earth and beyond through immersive exhibits, educational experiences, and scientific research. The MMGM houses the finest collection of Maine minerals and gems. It includes the famous Perham Collection, viewed by generations in a local mineral store that operated for ninety years. The MMGM displays one of the world’s foremost collection of extraterrestrial rocks – meteorites from Mars, the Moon and the Asteroid Belt - that teach us about the origins of our Solar System, including the five largest pieces of the Moon on Earth. Disc Golf Come join this introductory disc golf clinic to learn the game, make new friends, and have fun! Each week will be built on the previous week’s lesson. After four weeks, the clinic will end with a short round at Pleasant Hill Disc Golf Course on Saturday, October 8th!

Fall Cross Country This program involves learning the proper technique used in running through different terrain such as woods, fields, and walking paths. Practices are held Mondays and Thursdays. Participants who are interested in competing can attend the optional cross-country meets on Wednesday afternoons beginning at the end of September (transportation not provided) at various locations.

Experience the largest indoor ropes course in Maine, with over 40 activities like log roll, angle rope ladders, floating line, cargo nets, and the Zip It zip lines! You’ll see birds, planes, breathtaking murals, and video graphics that dazzle you on the largest LED ceiling in North America. There’s nothing else like IT in Maine!

Lounge Night Want somewhere to hang out with friends, besides someone’s house? Nows your chance because the building is all yours! Pickleball is a rapidly-growing sport that is known for its ease of learning and appeal to all ages. Anyone can play this sport! Whether you are looking for a fun game, healthy exercise or intense competition, pickleball has the ability to fulfill all of these goals. Very little equipment is needed to play the game, making it easy for everyone to participate. This 4-week program is designed for you to gain the confidence you need to get on the court with other beginner players. Instructor: Dave Cousins. Beginner Tennis Lessons

This beginner’s tennis class is designed for people who have not played tennis or had any kind of formal instruction before. We will run through the basics, including proper technique, positioning, foot work, and the rules and etiquette of point play for tennis.

Continue advancing your frosting floral skills by making a beautiful cupcake bouquet. Learn how to use Russian decorating tips and the secret support system that holds your bouquet together. You will construct and decorate a 7-cupcake bouquet to take home with you. Instructor: Paula Corbeau-O’Brien. Please bring cake decorating kit from previous class with you. Learn how to make roses, hydrangeas and other flowers out of frosting to decorate your cupcakes, cakes and cookies. During the second night you will decorate six cupcakes to take home with you.

Dancing is a wonderful physical, mental, and social activity, and ballroom lessons help us learn to connect with our partners. Over the course of this six-week program, couples will learn the basic steps for the Waltz, Foxtrot, and Swing dances –and maybe Rumba if there’s time! The program will conclude with a one-hour practice/dance held after the last lesson. No previous experience is required, just a willingness to “step” out of your comfort zone and learn something new!

Community Gardens Have a green thumb but don’t have the space or resources to plant your own garden? We have the solution! We have eight raised-bed 8-foot x 16-foot plots located in the Black Point Community Park. $15 one-time fee and $15 annual fee per gardener. Outdoor Lighting Management

Community Services has made booking a field or facility simpler by allowing online reservation requests! Using your organization’s username and password, you are able to log onto our online reservation system on our website and access the following features:

• Update your organization’s contact information. We ask that each group or organization only maintain one primary contact person to keep communications consistent throughout the reservation process.

Tired of lugging your kayak to and from the beach? Community Services has the answer for you! We have two eight-spot kayak racks available at the Pine Point Co-Op and a three-spot rack at Ferry Beach. Stop by our office to register and receive your rack decal. $100 for residents, $150 for nonresidents. Previous rack renters are given first rights of refusal for their spot year to year.
