Our Story
A passion for travel and exploring distant cultures led Carl to a dusty market in NorthWest India India in 1999.
He returned with an old satchel and some vintage treasures for family and friends. They were an instant hit.
Carl was inspired to return to India in 2006 to search for artisans practising traditional craft skills to recreate the iconic British satchel, make leather journals and restore old furniture.
Fast forward 16 years and Scaramanga is now a renowned sustainable lifestyle brand designing ranges of classically styled leather bags for men and women and a unique collection of vintage furniture and interiors sourced by Carl from around the world. We always have a fresh selection of unique and exclusive vintage furniture and interiors for our loyal customers, who include props buyers for the 17 Hollywood and major UK films our bags and interiors have featured in to date.

For every leather bag and piece of furniture order we donate 2 school lunches for children in India. So far every girl and boy at the Sanskrit Kotra Yojna School, Ajmer, Rajasthan gets a lunch at school every day through the Akshaya Patra Foundation. Scaramanga is partnering with Akshaya Patra because we believe that the work they do to alleviate hunger as a barrier to education for children in India will have a big impact on the children’s and their families’ lives. An opportunity to learn will mean a way out of poverty for many.
Akshaya Patra have fed more than 2 million children across 20,000 schools in15 states from 67 kitchens.

Sharukh, 26, has been working with our bag makers for 7 years. He is a team leader managing a group of up to 4 people. He’s been working with leather for 8 years. He started as a team junior and has been quickly promoted to a team member, senior team member then 2 years ago to team leader. Each team is responsible for making 50 bags from start to finish. Sharukh is studying part-time for his final year for a degree in Political Science at a local college.
The Beauty of HANDMADE
Our bags are handmade by a small leather craft business in Kolkata. We’ve been working with them for 13 years. Their highly skilled bag makers use traditional tools and techniques to expertly craft our bags. Their experience and knowledge of working with leather adds to the character and quality of each piece.
Our Hunter leather is tanned exclusively for us. We use natural oils, waxes and dyes to ensure fewer chemicals are used and to give you a more natural leather that looks even better with age.
We support age-old traditional skills like bookbinding. Hitesh has been making leather journals for more than 25 years from his workshop in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. He was one of our first suppliers more than 16 years ago.
