You’ve Helped Patients Like Jo ‘Equipment funded by Scannappeal remains crucial’ ‘It started when my GP sent me for a precautionary ultrasound scan and I knew I was in trouble when the nurse wished me luck. Sure enough, the call came followed by an early meeting with a urology consultant and a more definitive MRI scan.

Fear and hope take over. You manage the first and put your hope in people and the technology that they bring to bear. Cancer is insidious, it hides and threatens and you need to know. When the full picture emerges you ask “Do you know what it is?”, and then “Can you operate and remove it?” When the answer is “Yes” to both, you gain a little more hope.

Six months in and the cancer in my bladder has gone. It may come back, but if it does the equipment and caring people will be there to deal with it. It won’t be long before the clinicians have better diagnostics, of which equipment funded by Scannappeal remains a crucial part, and better treatments to defeat cancer once and for all.’ Jo, aged 68, from Amersham
