In October 2001, for example, a two-stage architectural competition was announced for the all-encompassing renewal of the Nyugati railway station in Budapest. Among the participants was the ‘who’s-who’ of renowned architectural offices like Foster + Partner, Zaha Hadid Architects, Kengo Kuma & Associates and Benthem Crouwel Architects.
