Light and texture Clear forms and reduction have always fascinated architect Ulrike Imhof. Thus, a clean, puristic design with recesses and cutouts, as well as subtly highlighted elements, form the simplistic message of ‘less is more‘ at Architectured. Despite the minimalist finesse, their projects never end up with a cold outlook. By effectively fusing light and material, the resulting spaces rather present an atmosphere that is both clear-cut and warm at the same time. Learning the ropes with the big names Ulrike Imhof went abroad right after finishing her studies to earn experience within the exciting, visionary realm of the many international star architects. New York impressed and influenced the young architect especially: “The city became my chosen home. The energy, the passion and the knack for constant reinvention in a place where everyone is talented and 72 | Issue 77 | August 2019
trying to live their dream inspires me still today.” The first solo assignment back home in 2014, a fashion and furniture pop-up store in Frankfurt, immediately drew much attention and acclaim both through word of mouth and social media: a dream start for the aspiring architect. Friends in style – the Architectured client list Anyone with a genuine interest in architecture, art, fashion and design is in the right hands at Architectured. Along with the varied inspiration that comes from online sources, clients also pick up ideas at hotels, restaurants, stores and airports abroad, which they bring back to be im-
plemented at their own home or work space. Ulrike Imhof explains the inclusive work ethos at the office: “As a team, we appreciate a fun working environment for both us and the clients. Often, it is a simple, mutual gut decision which leads to success.” Instagram has recently proved an important source of cooperation requests for the team. As the architect states, global connection and a culture of frequent travelling nowadays show the importance of feeling at home anywhere, be it in a store, at a hotel or restaurant, or within one’s own four walls: “Obviously, a friendly and professional service is always a big factor – but in the end, it is the design which creates a welcoming atmosphere right upon entering a space.”
