BTU COTTBUS-SENFTENBERG – INTERNATIONAL, INNOVATIVE AND A KEY PLAYER IN THE STRUCTURAL TRANSFORMATION IN LUSATIA
With projects worth billions of euros, creating hundreds of new jobs and attracting bright minds from around the globe, BTU is a powerhouse of transformation in Lusatia. Around 7,300 students from 126 countries are currently enrolled at BTU’s campuses in Cottbus and Senftenberg. Almost half of them come from abroad, particularly from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Syria and Turkey. With 225 partner universities worldwide and as a member of EUNICE, the European University of Customised Education, BTU stands for genuine internationality and global networking. Comprising six faculties and offering 71 degree programmes, including 31 bachelor’s, 38 master’s and two PhD programmes, 21 of them taught in English, BTU is undoubtedly a university of the future. tion and decarbonisation, global change and transformation processes, health and life sciences, and artificial intelligence and sensor technology. Thanks to its 180 professors and almost 1,400 researchers and staff members, students benefit from an outstanding university infrastructure, excellent research facilities, modern laboratories and a demanding, versatile and practice-oriented education with individual supervision. Future-oriented programmes such as artificial intelligence, transformation studies and power engineering combine academic depth with social relevance. The university’s proximity to metropolitan hubs like Berlin, Dresden, Prague and Wrocław, together with affordable living costs, adds to its appeal as a place to study and live. A keystone in the region’s strategy is the emerging Lausitz Science Park (LSP), a joint
initiative of the City of Cottbus, BTU and WISTA Management GmbH. Spanning 420 hectares, the LSP will develop into an internationally renowned science and business park over the coming years. It will offer research institutions, technology-oriented companies and start-ups excellent working conditions, and a first-class research environment to collaborate on solutions to the grand challenges of our time. True to the motto ‘from coal region to science hub’, the LSP will create jobs, attract skilled professionals and make Lusatia a model region for innovation and transformation. BTU also plays a leading role in knowledge and technology transfer. With around 15 structural change projects, the annual BTU Transfer Day, the Brandenburg Energy Day and the campus-X-change recruitment fair, it successfully brings together science, business and society.
