They made a conscious decision to open a small but refined chocolaterie, not a replica of the past but something new, rooted in history. “We realised that tradition could be a springboard for innovation,” Barbara explains. “So, we chose to position the shop as a chocolaterie – uncharted territory from a Schober perspective.” And it is a concept that is striking a chord in Zurich, where interest in high-quality chocolate is thriving. “Grand Cru chocolates are now being tasted like fine wine, with connoisseurs appreciating the nuanced notes of different cacaos.” At the heart of the new concept is an unwavering commitment to quality.The chocolaterie works with NOBILE, one of Switzerland’s top chocolate artisans, whose creations are crafted using couverture from Felchlin.

On Wühre 15, with a view of the Grossmünster, a piece of Zurich’s city history has quietly come back to life – or rather, it melts gently on the tongue. It is here that Barbara and Roland Guggisberg-Eich have opened Chocolaterie Schober, a long-cherished dream come true. As the granddaughter of Theodor Schober, Barbara, along with her husband, poured heart and soul into reviving the charm of the legendary pâtisserie, which was founded in 1874. Now, newly retired, they have lovingly recreated its unique atmosphere in a space of their own.
