in winter and moderates extreme heat in summer. This climate is ideal for Burgundy varieties such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris," explains estate manager Hans Zieger. "The calcareous soils add elegance, structure and a distinctive character to our wines, making them truly special." Just how special is demonstrated by the numerous awards the estate has received, including a gold medal for the Pinot Noir Barrique Auslese 2020 at the Mondial des Pinot 2024.
To ensure that the character of each grape shines through, Weingut Schipf intervenes as little as possible in the winemaking process. "Only fully ripe grapes make it to the press. Our red wines are then aged traditionally in large wooden barrels and barriques, giving the Burgundy varieties in particular their bold, full-bodied character."
More than 150 years ago, the von Meyenburg family took over Weingut Schipf and transformed it into a vineyard of outstanding renown. Today it is one of the most prestigious wineries in the region. A place where tradition, terroir and the skilled perfection of craftsmanship come together to create true culinary pleasure. Making wine is a vocation, as co-owner Claudia von Meyenburg knows; “No two days are the same. From pruning the vines and harvesting the grapes to maturing the wines in our historic 300-year-old vaulted cellar.” The most rewarding part of her work? “Bringing people joy with an exceptional glass of wine!” she says, smiling.
