David was a young boy, who loved God. He would normally tend his father’s sheep, but one day his father sent him off to bring his brothers some food. They were fighting in the army of King Saul. 1 Sam 17: 12-19

When David found his brothers, a mighty giant from the enemy army roared from across the field, “Come fight me, if you dare!� His name was Goliath and he would mock the Israelites, because no one dared to fight him. 1 Samuel 17:8-11

When David heard how Goliath shouted and bullied the Israelite army he became very angry. “Who does this soldier think he is? Doesn’t he know that God fights on our side?” David asked. “Well, I am not afraid to fight him!” 1 Samuel 17:20-30

When King Saul heard what David said he would do, he gave him his sword and tunic. But David could hardly move in these clothes. Instead David went to a nearby stream choosing five smooth stones for his sling. Then he went to face the giant. 1 Samuel 17:30-40

“Do you think I am a little dog you can chase off with a stick?” Goliath roared angrily when he saw David. But David replied, “You come against me with sword and spear, but I come against you in the name of the Lord my God.” Then David ran toward Goliath. 1 Samuel 17:41-48

David cast a stone from his sling at Goliath and it struck the giant’s forehead. A big “THUNK!” was heard and Goliath fell to the ground. The Israelite army shouted for joy. David, with the help of God, had defeated their mighty enemy and chased off the enemy army. 1 Samuel 17:49-51
