Gallery Exhibitions Alice & William Jenkins Gallery

Crealdé School of Art is a community-based non-profit art organization established in 1975, featuring an affordable, sequential curriculum of over 100 studio courses and workshops in painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, sculpture and related media for adults and children, with hands-on experience emphasized. Also, Crealdé offers an award-winning scholarship and outreach program to special populations from the diverse Central Florida community. Our two galleries feature changing multi-disciplinary visual art exhibitions by artists from Florida, the nation, and the world.

Crealdé’s outdoor contemporary sculpture garden showcases over 60 pieces of art. A limited number of classes are held at the Jessie Brock Community Center in Winter Garden.

Crealdé’s main campus is located off Aloma Avenue at 600 St. Andrews Blvd., Winter Park, FL 32792. The office and galleries are open 9:00–4:00 on Monday–Thursday, and 9:00–1:00 Friday and Saturday. Phone 407-671-1886.

Exploring heritage and folklore through the visual arts and humanities

September 20 to January 11 In both the Jenkins and Heritage Center Galleries– Art from the Heart of Florida.

This two-venue exhibition is inspired by the diversity of talented visual artists who call Central Florida home. There is a certain “Florida state of mind” that is reflective of the art produced in the center of the state.

The focus of the show is to highlight the work of area artists representing diverse media, including ceramics, sculpture, paintings and photography.

Crealdé’s community annex represents a part407.539.2680 nership with the City of Winter Park, and pays tribute to the past, present and future contributions of Winter Park’s historic African American community by presenting a unique collection of historic photographs and oral histories.

Established by Crealdé in 2007, the center also features visual art exhibitions and educational programs that explore Southern folklore and cultural preservation. Visit and share an inspiring history told by the people who have lived it! Free admission.

Showalter Hughes Community Gallery Celebrating the art of Crealdé’s community September 6 to January 11 The Art of Fellowship in Painting and Drawing.

Emerging artists from the Painting and Drawing department show a diverse palette of artwork. Since 1978, the Crealdé Fellowship Program has mentored hundreds of students through this work-study exchange; many former Fellows have become professional exhibiting artists. Curated by Vincent Sansone and Rick Lang, Ceramics & Sculpture Director and Photography Director respectively. Opening reception, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6.

Homeschool Field Trips - NEW!

Experience art up close and hands-on when you visit Crealdé School of Art’s lakeside campus and its art studios. Witness a ball of clay becoming a pottery vessel. Explore our Contemporary sculpture garden and art galleries and then release the artist in you as you create a special piece to take home. Bring a lunch and enjoy a picnic on campus after your guided art adventure.

Studio 7 Foiled again! Use the Tiffany foil method to create illuminating stained glass projects. Learn to make a pattern, cut, foil and solder. $160 Members • $180 Non-Members handles so now we can add spouts to make teapots and pitchers. Instructor: Vincent Sansone Fall I & Fall II Friday, 1:30-3:30 p.m. 6 weeks Studio 4 Six-week class. Traditional Raku firing and other post reduction techniques. The first four meetings will be spent making pieces for the firings.

Some handbuilding skills are needed for this class.

Besides the traditional raku firing method we will also explore fuming and horsehair finishing techniques. Come and learn this exciting firing method with instant results.

Gluing, riveting, bolting, mold making, and casting will be used to connect dissimilar materials. Students will be asked to bring in some materials and some materials will be supplied.

Studio 1B This oil painting class is for beginners to intermediates using the “wipe out” technique to create a monochromatic under painting. The image is revealed by using rags and brushes to remove the paint leaving the image on the canvas. In this 6 week course we’ll use watercolor to achieve the luminosity and sparkle characteristic of master watercolorists. Learn how to distinguish between transparent and opaque colors--warm and cool colors--the importance of grays: lifeless versus lively -- greens should not look only green! Most importantly, gain clear instruction on how to use color and design more effectively in your own paintings. Find new and exciting ways for colors to complement each other.

This class is designed to help students make quick sketches of what they see or an idea they might have, which is an important part of planning a painting. Or the sketches might be used to illustrate design ideas for architects, interior designers, artists or sculptors, or in a journal, while sketching on vacation. The focus of this class is to sharpen the student’s perception of proportions, perspective, light and shadow.

PD302 Painting the Model Outdoors

Instructor: Don Sontag Fall II only Wednesday 9:00 a.m.–12:00 noon Studio 1B Six-week class begins Oct. 23. Class will paint the model in the landscape. Students will develop a study in vine charcoal then apply paint on top of their drawings. Oil paint is preferred but acrylics and other media are acceptable. First class will meet at Crealdé. Workshop with Spence Guerin Sept. 21, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Heritage Center We’ll do fast sketch drawings from life to help build observation and drawing skills, working from subjects all around us, fellow class mates and people on the street, and neighborhood scenes. Use simple black India ink and wash with brush and/or pen and ink.

Mixed Media Workshop

with Christine Peloquin Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28 & 29 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Studio 1B Christine will share the joys and secrets of combining mixed media fabric and paper collage with drawing and painting.

Students are encouraged to incorporate some of their prior artwork into new pieces, creating a collage with papers, fabrics, found objects, past artwork, drawing, and acrylic painting. We will explore new mixed media techniques, entertain the idea of re-purposing prior work and excavate each student’s authentic voice.

PD305 Portrait Painting

Studio 1A Six-week class; Fall I begins August 21 and Fall II begins Oct. 16. Working directly from the live model students will establish proportions and bone structure. Using either oils or acrylics students will concentrate on drawing, value and color to develop their painting, with an emphasis placed on achieving a likeness. Tuition includes model fees. Painting from the Intuitive: Intensive

Workshop with Patricia Wheeler, Studio 1A October 5 & 6, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Work from your intuitive side to build paintings that can transform personal experience or vision into art. Using the concept of palimpsest, where remnants of earlier, imperfectly erased markings and language are revealed, we will employ symbols to create abstract paintings that reflect life. Integrating formal elements, we will use limestone clay on board with a variety of acrylic paints as stain and cold wax to seal the final layer. As we build, stencil and cut into the paintings, we begin to understand the layering and distressed surfaces of ancient places. Prerequisite: Basic design sense and a willingness to “let go” and experiment.

• Refunds must be requested by noon the day before the first class. A refund will be issued less a $10 processing fee for members and less a $30 processing fee for non-members. Refund requests made after the start of the first class will not be honored; see below for credits.

• Withdrawal from class for credit must be requested before start of the second class. A class credit will be issued if requested no later than 24 hours prior to the start of the second class. Class credits are good for the two terms immediately following the original term.

• Refunds for workshops are full tuition less processing fee based on membership status. No refunds for workshops will be made after the registration deadline.

• Class transfers must also be completed no later than 24 hours prior to the start of the second class. Transfers after the first class but before the second class will be assessed a processing fee. Transfers, refunds and credits are not available after the second class. These policies apply regardless of attendance status.
