The concrete portion of the bridge contains reactive aggregate, which may weaken the bridge’s structural integrity. Replacing the bridge is the best solution to address the reactive aggregate and to ensure the function and reliability of the highway. The new bridge will be designed as a single-span structure that will meet current bridge standards. The project will also upgrade railing, improve habitat conditions, and improve hydrologic conditions.

Caltrans has studied the effects this project may have on the environment. Our studies show the project will not significantly affect the quality of the environment. More information regarding this finding is included in Caltrans’ Initial Study with Proposed Mitigated Negative Declaration and Environmental Assessment. The draft environmental document was previously distributed to the public; public comments were accepted from December 13, 2019 to January 17, 2019. Based on the public comments received, Caltrans has revised the draft environmental document and is recirculating it to the public. The results of the study are also available for the public to review.
