Without partnerships like the one we share with Tauck, the power of Save the Rain’s work would be felt in a smaller way. The best way to describe the impact of your generosity is to share one woman’s story as it expresses the incredible ripple your contribution has and will continue to create for many. We cannot express enough gratitude for helping us cast a wider net so that more people have the resources to build safe and abundant lives
With so much gratitude,

KAANANDE’S STORY
Kaanande’s four children are grown and have left home Her husband died in 2018, but she’s not alone: her two-year-old granddaughter lives with her Prijent’s mama moved in with a man who couldn’t accept a child that wasn’t his, so Kaanande took her in
They live in a village in the Kingori Ward, a remote part of Northern Tanzania. The closest standpipe is miles away and only functions a day or two per week The water it delivers is so steeped in naturally occurring fluoride as to be toxic, and to add insult to injury, it costs money to pump.
Kaanande has a chest problem, making it difficult to carry the heavy buckets To meet their needs for drinking, cooking and cleaning, she makes multiple trips, expending whole days and energy she doesn’t have. While she is out walking for water, she must find a neighbor to watch Prijent – but her neighbors are busy trying to square the same impossible circle too She finally returns with a few precious liters, and the work begins: feeding her hungry granddaughter, bathing her, washing their clothes…
Though Prijent is too little to help her grandmother, Kaanande’s advancing years and declining health would have made this unavoidable. Like so many girls, Prijent’s childhood, safety and education would have been sacrificed to the pursuit of this precious resource.
Thanks to Tauck’s intervention though, Prijent will never know the walk for water.
This year, Kaanande received a 3,500liter residential rainwater harvesting system, which means she has abundant, clean, safe water right in her backyard.
