Info: Across campus, 1,200 trees and woody plants have been identified and tagged as part of Southern’s arboretum. This collection includes 84 species, including 53 that are native to Tennessee.

The best way to view the arboretum is to stroll the half mile down the campus promenade from Hickman Science Center (where the arboretum office is located) to Brock Hall. Be sure to stop along the way at the Garden of Prayer to see memorial trees that were planted to celebrate the lives of people who were instrumental in Southern’s past. Another beautiful spot is the small garden between the Hickman Science Center and Thatcher South Hall which features some White Oaks and Eastern Hemlocks.

QR codes on posts can be scanned to learn more about each tree or plant.
