The Greening of You

When the rocks become stars

and your eyes are the sky,

would that I could replace them

to sleep where you lie.

The pennies are greened,

and the shadows have stained

but I would spend all that's mine

to take the place you have gained.

When our best season finally arrives,

all of the memories are dimly lit to grim;

still I will embalm you with morphine

and the valor of boyhood endeavors again

.

Three times have gone, the fourth one just come;

and at last I can say the greening of you is done.
