One Hour to Bloom

by Tina Poole

Slowly my dark purple petals begin to open

And I gaze into the brilliant blue sky.

Softly I'm pushed by the warm breeze

First one way and then another.

I have one hour to watch the world go by--

I'll listen to birds sing and chipmunks chatter.

I'll let the sun bathe me in her warmth,

So as my dark purple petals begin to close

I'll embrace that warmth to get me through to next year.
