Since 1915, UBC has been opening doors of opportunity for people with the curiosity, drive, and vision to shape a brighter future.

Don’t just take our word for it. UBC ranks 36th in the world for its reputation in teaching and research,* one of three Canadian universities in the top 50. UBC has also been recognized as a world leader in taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. We are also the first university in North America to commit to implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, taking a human-rights based approach to our Indigenous strategic framework.

As a top-ranked school, UBC attracts students from around the globe to our world-class academic environment. Become a part of our dynamic community.

Higher Education World Reputation Rankings 2023

Our people

The UBC community is made up of some of the world’s brightest and most curious people. Our campuses are abuzz with intellectual leaders, entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, and more. From faculty to staff, you will be surrounded by individuals who will support, uplift, and guide you throughout your education.

Knowledge the world needs

UBC received $747.3M in research funding in 2022/23, generating 9,675 projects across our faculties. As a student at UBC, you will learn from, and work alongside, talented scholars who are helping to tackle some of the most pressing societal issues of our time. You can join them in these endeavours.

“The students are engaged and tied to the school because they have a common goal, they connect with each other in multiple ways. You join clubs and find people who are like-minded. You get a chance to learn about what you are interested in, to work with staff who are dedicated to your experience, and to learn from faculty who care and want to learn what you think. Alumni care, the students care, the staff care. We are all UBC Sauder. And we hope you are, too.”

A more inclusive UBC

At UBC, inclusion is a commitment to creating a welcoming community where those who are historically, persistently, or systemically marginalized are treated equitably, feel respected, and belong. Inclusion is built by individual and institutional responsibility through continuous engagement with diversity to inspire people, ideas, and actions for a better world.

Global Impact

UBC stands out among the world’s top universities for making a global impact. For 2023, UBC ranked 26th globally out of more than 1,700 participating institutions from 115 countries, based on its contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.

Experience the vibrancy of Vancouver

Come and join us where the sea, sky, and mountains meet. Vancouver is a year-round adventurers’ paradise that offers limitless opportunities to explore and feel inspired. Whether you’re a foodie, an arts and culture buff, an outdoor enthusiast, or an urbanite, there is something for everyone.

Strategically situated along the Pacific Rim, the city offers unique access to business opportunities in North America, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and the rapidly-evolving markets of the Asia-Pacific region. It’s the perfect place for global citizens to expand their networks.

West Coast entrepreneurial spirit

As Silicon Valley’s northern neighbour, Vancouver is a hub for ambitious entrepreneurs and their start-ups. Notable success stories like Hootsuite and Lululemon are only the tip of the iceberg. There’s also Clio, a cloud-based legal software company founded by a UBC Sauder grad. And who can forget Bench? America’s largest professional bookkeeping service for small businesses was also co-founded by a UBC Sauder alum and still has roots in the city. There’s something in the air that inspires people to nurture creative ideas, take a chance, and scale up.

An outdoor oasis

Vancouver offers a temperate climate and unlimited recreational activities. It’s a cosmopolitan city that is small enough to make its attractions accessible. Many beautiful beaches are great jumping off points to kayak, sail, or swim. The nearby North Shore mountains provide a picturesque setting to ski, hike, or mountain bike.

A sustainable city

As you might expect from the city where Greenpeace was founded, Vancouver is recognized for its sustainability efforts. Its ‘Green Economy’ has grown exponentially in recent years, with sectors like local food, green building, and clean technology having established a firm footing. The City of Vancouver is also pursuing a zero-waste future through its ‘Zero Waste 2040’ strategic plan. As a university in a city and region known for its pioneering focus on sustainability, we provide an environment that serves as a living laboratory for social innovators and entrepreneurs.

Vibrant neighbourhoods and inclusive festivals

Vancouver is the sum of its most wonderful parts. Vancouver’s Chinatown is Canada’s largest; the Punjabi market is considered North America’s oldest Little India; Commercial Drive is home to the historic Little Italy; Kitsilano has a relaxed beach vibe; Granville Island hosts artistic and theatre attractions; and Main Street is a hipster’s heaven. The city comes alive during annual festivals like the Vancouver Pride Parade, LunarFest Vancouver, the Vancouver Vaisakhi Festival, the Japanese-Canadian Powell Street Festival, Carnaval del Sol, Greek Day, and the Khatsahlano Street Festival, which bring everyone together to celebrate.
