Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) Employment Report

Message from Interim Assistant Dean Laine McDonald
As the Interim Assistant Dean of the Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre (BCC) at the UBC Sauder School of Business, I’m pleased to share the Class of 2024 Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) Employment Report with you as you consider the next step in your career journey.
Navigating today’s evolving job market—the shifting economic conditions, emerging industries, and new ways of working—requires more than business expertise. It demands adaptability, emotional intelligence, and strong professional connections. The Class of 2024 rose to the occasion, and this report reflects the ambition and resilience that define UBC Sauder graduates.
The UBC BCom is more than a degree—it’s a transformational experience that empowers students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to become the next generation of business leaders. The BCC supports this journey through one-on-one career coaching, an embedded career development course, job opportunities, and exclusive alumni and employer events. Whether pursuing roles in Canada or globally, in established industries or emerging sectors, students benefit from our personalized support designed to help them clarify their goals and build the skills, knowledge, and networks to achieve them.
Experiential learning is a cornerstone of the UBC Sauder experience. Students bring their learning to life through Co-op work terms, summer internships, international exchange, student leadership, mentorship programs, and case competitions. These experiences are critical turning points that help students discover their interests, develop career readiness, and forge lasting connections. For many students, these experiences serve as gateways to full-time roles, demonstrating the real-world value of hands-on learning and the strength of our employer and alumni networks. With more than 50,000 alumni worldwide and strong industry relationships, our students gain access to a robust and engaged network that supports them throughout their BCom studies and beyond.
I look forward to welcoming you to UBC Sauder, where our community is shaping the future of business through innovation, sustainability, and responsible leadership.

“ The Business Career Centre was an instrumental resource during my undergrad. Through the Co-op program, one-onone career coaching and advising, as well as the scholarships partnered with UBC Sauder, I was able to hone the necessary skills and knowledge to position myself as a well-rounded and competitive candidate entering the job market.”

Experiential Learning Opportunities
Internships: Internships are a valuable opportunity to gain experience in a field that aligns with your career goals. They typically happen in the summer and vary in duration.
42% of 2024 BCom grads were hired by their internship employer
Case competitions: Case competitions offer students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world business challenges in a dynamic and competitive setting. In these competitions, teams are given a business case outlining a specific problem and a set time to devise the most effective solution using the provided information. They then present their strategies to a panel of judges, competing against other teams for the best solution.
Student leadership roles: BCom students have access to over 40 UBC Sauder-specific and 350 UBC-wide clubs, providing a wide range of opportunities to engage with peers in similar areas of interest, hobbies, professional development, and more. The Commerce Undergraduate Society (CUS) is one of the largest business student societies in Canada, with an operating budget of over $1.4 million.
UBC student employment: There are many opportunities for current students to work within the university. Positions include Teaching Assistant, Career Peer Advisor, Events Assistant, and many more through UBC’s Work Learn program. These experiences allow students to gain a deeper understanding of the professional world and refine their strengths, skills, and work styles to excel in their careers after graduation.
Co-op program: The UBC Sauder Co-op Program provides BCom students with the opportunity to develop new skills and expand their professional networks through three 4-month paid work terms.
59% of 2024 Co-op grads were hired by one of their Co-op employers
Part-time/full-time employment: Working during your undergraduate degree, through part-time jobs or full-time seasonal employment, provides opportunities for growth and development of transferable skills.
Mentorship & specialty programs: BCom students can develop new skills with guidance from industry professionals through mentorship and specialized training programs. These include the Finance Mentorship Program, Investment Banking Access Pathway Program (NEW), Brand Management Mentorship Program, Portfolio Management Foundation, Executive Mentorship Program, and UBC Sauder Women+ in Finance Training (SWIFT), among many others.
Own ventures: Whether pursuing their own vision or collaborating with peers on the next big idea, BCom students have access to a wide array of resources to support their entrepreneurial endeavors, including Innovation UBC – a central hub that supports entrepreneurs at every stage. BCom students can also take the New Venture Design course and team up with engineering students to develop a real product to launch in the market.
UBC Bachelor of Commerce Co-op Program
The UBC Sauder Co-op Program gives Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) students the opportunity to gain skills and expand their professional network through three 4-month paid work terms over the course of their undergraduate degree.
Why students choose the Co-op program
As soon as students are admitted into Co-op, they are matched with a small group that includes one senior Co-op student and typically three other new Co-op students as part of the Co-op Student Mentorship Program. With 270 students, the Co-op Student Mentorship Program is the largest peer student mentorship program across all of UBC, and the only one of this size in any business Co-op program across Canada.
Co-op students have access to thousands of job postings on UBC Sauder’s exclusive jobs board. In 2023/2024, there were 2,700 postings for the September and January work terms alone.
Those who participate in the UBC Sauder Co-op program earn higher starting salaries, on average, than their BCom peers, and 87% of Co-op students from our 2024 graduating class received full-time employment offers within six months of graduation.
Co-op is the primary way for domestic and international students to work full-time during the academic year while maintaining full-time student status. During Co-op work terms, students do not pay tuition fees, but still retain advantages such as on-campus housing eligibility, a transit pass, and continued access to bursaries, scholarships, and loans.

Interpreting our employment data
Accreditation
UBC Sauder proudly holds accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a globally recognized body that provides specialized accreditation for business and accounting programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. This accreditation is a testament to the quality and rigour of our programs and is considered the gold standard in business education worldwide.
Reporting guidelines
The data in this report is collected and interpreted according to the guidelines established by the AACSB in their annual BSQ Employment Module, which requires all AACSB-accredited business schools to report employment outcomes.
Salary statistics
When considering salary compensation, it’s important to look beyond the average and consider the median (mid-point) and range. These additional data points offer a more comprehensive view of salary distribution among the class. It’s worth noting that the average can be skewed by a small number of students receiving either very high or very low salary offers. For consistency and ease of comparison, all salaries are reported in Canadian dollars, with foreign salaries converted using the prevailing exchange rate.
