As the Assistant Dean of the Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre (BCC) at the UBC Sauder School of Business, I’m excited to welcome you as you explore the next steps in your educational and career journey.
The UBC Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) program is more than a degree— it’s a transformative experience designed to develop responsible leaders equipped with both business acumen and emotional intelligence to contribute to the betterment of society. We believe in the potential of self-discovery and personal growth; our career development services consider these elements and are tailored to support you in achieving your professional goals.
Our dedicated BCC team, including Career Strategists, Co-op Managers, Career Peer Advisors, and Employer Relations Professionals, are committed to helping BCom students identify and reach their career aspirations. We provide personalized career coaching and advising, exclusive employer events, career education in the classroom, various experiential learning opportunities, and online career development resources. Our offering helps students gain practical experience, develop new skills, and expand their professional networks.
Success in today’s business world requires a blend of academics, experience, and connections. UBC Sauder’s comprehensive approach embeds tailored career development programming within the BCom curriculum. We provide essential industry knowledge and career skills to ensure you’re well-equipped to excel in sectors ranging from finance, consulting and tech to real estate, consumer packaged goods, and more. Our alums become business leaders across Canada and worldwide, with a majority of our graduates launching successful careers on the West Coast.
We’re proud of UBC Sauder’s position as the highest ranked business school in Canada with a dedicated Co-op program, according to both Maclean’s University Rankings 2024 and Times Higher Education. Complementing your educational path with a 12-month paid Co-op equips you with relevant work experience and a network to help launch your career and put you on the fast track to success after graduation. For the class of 2023, over half of Co-op grads accepted full-time, permanent employment offers from their Co-op employers.
At UBC Sauder, we encourage you to engage with our community and build your supportive network to bolster your personal and professional journey. You’ll create lifelong connections with peers, faculty, and our extensive network of over 50,000 alumni through student clubs, mentorship programs, classroom activities, and networking events. Our alumni network includes leaders in various industries, many of whom provide invaluable mentorship and support to current students.
We look forward to welcoming you into the UBC Sauder community!

“ The BCC was an instrumental resource during my undergrad. Through the Co-op program, one-on-one career coaching and advising, as well as the scholarships partnered with UBC Sauder, I was able to hone the necessary skills and knowledge to position myself as a well-rounded and competitive candidate entering the job market.”
Jeshin Toor (JLL Canada)

The Commerce Undergraduate Society (CUS) is the largest business student society in Canada, with an operating budget of over $1 million.
38 %
UBC student employment: There are many opportunities for current students to work within the university. Positions include Teaching Assistant, Career Peer Advisor, Events Assistant, Work Learn, and more. 24%
Case competitions: Case competitions offer students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world business challenges in a dynamic and competitive setting. They then present their strategies to a panel of judges, competing against other teams for the best solution.

BCom students can also take the New Venture Design course and team up with engineering students to develop a real product to launch in the market.
The Co-op program gives Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) students the opportunity to gain new skills and expand their professional network through three 4-month work terms in their chosen field over the course of their undergraduate degree.
Why students choose the Co-op program
As soon as students get into Co-op, they are matched with a small group that includes one senior Co-op student and typically three other new Co-op students as part of the Co-op Student Mentorship Program. With 280 students, including 65 mentors, the Co-op Student Mentorship Program is the largest peer student mentorship program across all of UBC, and the only one of this size at any Co-op business school across Canada.
Co-op students have access to exclusive job postings on Career Options On-Line (COOL), an online career management system available exclusively for UBC Sauder students and alumni. In 2022/2023, they had access to roughly 2,670 postings for the September and January work terms that were only available to Co-op students.
Those who participate in the UBC Sauder Co-op program earn higher starting salaries, on average, than their BCom peers. In 2023, Co-op grads earned $10,000 more than non-Co-op BCom grads.
Co-op is the only way for domestic and international students to work full-time in the academic year and maintain full-time student status. This has many advantages and provides them with broader on-campus housing options, qualifies them for the U-Pass BC, and maintains eligibility for bursaries, scholarships, and loans.

UBC Sauder proudly holds accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a globally recognized body that provides specialized accreditation for business and accounting programs at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral levels. This accreditation is a testament to the quality and rigour of our programs and is considered the gold standard in business education worldwide.
The data in this report is collected and interpreted according to the guidelines established by the AACSB in their annual BSQ Employment Module, which requires all AACSB-accredited business schools to report employment outcomes.
When considering salary compensation, it’s important to look beyond the average and consider the median (mid-point) and range. These additional data points offer a more comprehensive view of salary distribution among the class. It’s worth noting that the average can be skewed by a small number of students receiving either very high or very low salary offers. For consistency and ease of comparison, all salaries are reported in Canadian dollars, with foreign salaries converted using the prevailing exchange rate.
