CORPORATE INDUCTION

The Corporate Induction is a mandatory requirement that all new staff who are employed by the Trust for more than 3 months must attend within 3 months of starting. Once you start you will receive an email regarding your induction. This will be sent to your NHS.net email address.

We understand that being new to the Trust can feel overwhelming especially with finding your way around, so please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff for directions as they will be more than happy to help.

In terms of what you will need to wear on the day, smart casual is best. Make sure you are wearing something comfortable to allow ease of movement during your Safe Load Moving & Handling training session and please do remember that as you are representing the Trust, wearing revealing clothes or ripped jeans to these sessions will not be permitted as it is important to present a good impression to visitors to the hospitals.

You will be paid for your contractual shifts on the last working day of every month. You will be paid any enhancements on the last working day of the following month.

UNSOCIABLE HOURS PAYMENT

It is important to note that alongside your contractual hours, there may be an opportunity to work over time or outside of ‘sociable hours’. This means that you would be entitled to a pay enhancement which would be added to the following month’s payslip. The enhancement works on an hourly rate and can be calculated as follows;

PENSION SCHEME

The NHS Pension Scheme is the default pension scheme for NHS workers to be automatically enrolled in under government efforts to increase levels of personal pension saving in the UK. Membership of the scheme is voluntary but if you are eligible you will be automatically enrolled and made a member from the day you start or restart in the NHS, unless you decide to opt out after joining. This excludes freelance locum medical practitioners who need to opt to join the scheme.

OPTING OUT OF THIS SCHEME You can opt out of this scheme at any time but you may be automatically re-enrolled by your employer every three years under the auto enrolment process. You can opt out by completing the application to leave the NHS Pension Scheme (SD502) form which is . available to download and print from our website at: www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/nhs-pensions.

Before opting out of this scheme you should carefully compare the relative cost to you and the whole package of benefits provided. If you are in NHS employment you may apply to your employer to re-join if you continue to satisfy the eligibility conditions. You may not re-join if you are absent from work for any reason. EMPLOYEE SELF SERVICE

The Employee Self Service (ESS) allows you to amend and view information on your Electronic Staff Record from anywhere at any time, using which ever device you like.

However, when you are at work you can easily access the Employee Self Service via the NHS ESR Web Page found on the Intranet.

As a Trust, we are conscious about our use of paper and are always looking at ways we can reduce this to benefit our environment. Therefore, as of 1st July 2020 all payslips will no longer be sent out in paper form but will instead be accessible electronically via your Employee Self Service.

To access your electronic payslip, you will require a Trust NHS.net email account. This will have been requested during your recruitment process.

INTRANET Once your NHS.net account has been activated, you will have access to our in-house Intranet. The SaTH intranet is a system which provides up to date information to all Staff members with access to a computer within the Trust. It is important to take some time out each week to look through our intranet and stay updated with the latest news and events within the Trust.

The intranet contains a wealth of information, contact details and useful documents on e-learning. You can access the intranet by clicking on the Internet Explorer icon which will bring you to the homepage

NEWS AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Communicating with our Staff is essential to ensure that each and every member of Staff is informed and engaged with current information and events. Information will be communicated in a number of ways including; • Putting it on our sath.nhs.uk website • Uploading information to our Staff Intranet • Communicating through our Recruitment Website, www.jobs.sath.nhs.uk • Sending out Newsletters We do have our own in-house Newsletter called Chatterbox which is sent out on a weekly basis to all Staff members via email. You will receive an email in your work inbox which will look something like the below; At the moment, Chatterbox is communicated with a Rainbow logo to show our appreciation to all Key Workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is also encouraged that Staff engage with the Trust via social media using Facebook and Twitter. However, it is important to remember there is guidance on how to conduct yourself on Social Media, especially when representing the Trust.

TRADE UNION

Unison is a recognised trade union who provide assistance and service to their members in relation to their employment. They are currently the UK’s largest public service union, with over 1.3 million members. Unison provide legal help, advice, support and help at work. FREEDOM TO SPEAK UP (FTSU) We have a scheme called ‘Freedom to Speak Up Guardians’, which acts independently to support our Staff in order to make it a safer place for our patients and Staff. It is important to us as a Trust that our Staff have somewhere or someone to turn to if that have any concerns or if they want to raise something that they felt was a form of malpractice or wrong doing.

Having this service ensures that these concerns are heard and addressed which in turn, makes our Trust a safer place for patients and a more open place to work.

Our Freedom to Speak Up Guardians are Kate Adney, Teresa Carrington and Chan Kaur. They are here to support our staff and listen to any concerns you wish to raise. For any queries, they can be contacted on sath.ftsu@nhs.net.

GETTING TO WORK

We understand that your first day can be daunting enough as it is, we don’t want you to have the added worry of struggling to find your new place of work. At the back of this pack we have included directions to each Trust site and a map of each hospital.

CAR PARKING During your recruitment process you would have completed a temporary car parking permit form. This form would have activated a temporary permit which will expire four weeks from your start date.

During your first four weeks, it is important that you log onto the trust intranet and complete the SaTh Car Parking application.Once completed your car parking permit will become permanent, failure to do so may result in a fine.

From a Slimming World Referral Scheme, to walking groups and mindfulness sessions, the Trust has many things in place to make you feel your best self.

ABOUT OUR HOSPITAL’S CHARITY SaTH Charity is registered with the Charities Commission and makes a real difference to the patients, affected friends and family, and members of staff. The Charity has over 70 different charitable funds so at some point you are likely to come into contact with us whether it’s talking to a patient about how they can support your area or if indeed you fancy doing some fundraising of your own.

#GETINVOLVED From coffee mornings to black-tie dinners, football tournaments to marathons, there are so many ways that you can organise your own fundraising for the cause you care about.

SATH CHARITY

HOW WE CAN SUPPORT YOU SaTH Charity raises money to support our staff with our “Small Things Fund”; we are then able to buy items that are important to you and improve your working environment. This could be a kettle, a new microwave, or items to make a staff room more comfortable. We also help to purchase larger items such as outdoor seating and areas focussed on your wellbeing, we can fund specialist training for staff. The Charity also receives and distributes items that have been donated to us, as well as do fun things like raffles and giveaways.

The Small Things Fund is supported by patient and family donations when they wish to thank the staff for their care, as individuals you are not able to accept cash but you can accept it on behalf of the Charity (any money and donations should be taken to the cashier’s office). It is then accessible to staff to fund those items that benefit staff groups.

Money is also raised through our staff lottery – 50% of profits go to the winners and 50% goes to our Small Things Fund to pay for the items above. It’s a great way to raise money; every £1 stays in the Trust in either winnings or is spent on you, our staff – sign up for the staff lottery here: https://intranet/Charity/lottery.asp You can also help to raise money by signing up to the Pennies for Heaven scheme, this scheme rounds up your wages to the nearest pound and those extra pennies go into the fund: https://intranet/Charity/pennies_from_heaven.asp. THINGS TO DO IN SHREWSBURY

Shrewsbury is a picturesque, historic town with plenty to do. Its cobbled streets and Tudor houses have been well preserved and make it a beautiful town to wonder around, yet it still boasts a modern feel due to its array of restaurants, bars, nightclubs and shops. Here is a list of some of the places you can visit in and around Shrewsbury in your free time: The Quarry The historic Quarry contains a 29-acre park complimented by the River Severn. It’s perfect for a picnic, a family day out, a dog walk or a relaxing stroll. It also holds exciting events throughout the year, such as the Shrewsbury Flower Show in August, the Shrewsbury Regatta in May, the Food Festival in June and more!

Shrewsbury Castle The Shrewsbury Castle dates back many centuries and now holds the Shropshire Regimental Museum. Here you can admire the picturesque castle itself, access a panoramic view of the town from the terrace, or learn about Shrewsbury’s military history in the museum.

Theatre Severn - The Theatre Severn is based in Shrewsbury town centre and hosts a wide variety of live entertainment, from touring comedians, dance groups, musical productions, Shrewsbury’s Symphony Orchestra and plenty of children’s shows.

THINGS TO DO IN SHREWSBURY continued

The River Severn The River Severn is the longest river in Great Britain and with paths and parks surrounding it, it is the perfect place to go for a run, walk or cycle. You could also take a river boat trip with Sabrina Boat Trips to really take in the view, whilst having some refreshments with its on-board bar and dinner service. If you prefer something more active, you can hire canoes and make your way along the river this way!

Shopping and Leisure Shrewsbury town contains two shopping centres, a high street with many other shops, banks, cafés, pubs, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. A market is also held in the square regularly, here you can pick up fresh local produce and unique products. Outside of the town you can also find a cinema, bowling alley and more places to eat, drink and socialise. There is also a selection of gyms and health clubs to choose from, so whether you want to keep fit or indulge, there is something for everyone!

The Great Outdoors There are many natural places of beauty to explore in and around Shrewsbury. Two are Haughmond Hill and Long Mynd.

THINGS TO DO IN TELFORD

Telford is the birthplace of industry and boasts a wide range of shops, bars, restaurants and other entertainment facilities. Though it holds all you could need for entertainment and socialising, it is also surrounded by areas of natural beauty, providing the perfect mixture of relaxation and entertainment. Below are a list of just some of the great places you can visit in and around Telford: Ironbridge Gorge Ironbridge Gorge is a beautiful place to explore if you’re a fan of natural beauty and preserved historical buildings and monuments. There are various museums in Ironbridge as well as a host of ice cream, fish and chips, sweetshops and gift shops. A visit to Ironbridge Gorge really makes for a great day out.

Blists Hill Victorian Town Just outside of Telford is an open-air museum that gives you a true feel of the 19th century industrial culture. The museum contains Victorian homes, a cobbler’s shop, sweetshop, a bank, post office and bakery amongst other attractions. You can walk around the village and meet a whole host of Victorian characters who will tell you about their trades and lifestyles. This is a truly immersive museum experience.

Animal Attractions The Exotic Zoo makes for a great day out for any animal lover. Here you can see an array of exotic animals from dwarf crocodiles to lemurs and learn all about them thanks to the knowledgeable Zoo staff. Hoo Farm is another animal attraction in Telford that makes for a great day out, here you can feed some of the animals and learn about lemurs, parrots and more!

Shopping and Leisure Telford is well-known for its abundance of shopping and entertainment facilities. It has a large shopping centre with a wide variety of shops and accessible parking. Nearby is an ice skating rink, a snowboard and ski centre, a variety of children’s attractions, a bowling alley, two cinemas and a large amount of bars, restaurants, pubs and cafes. Telford also has a variety of gyms and health clubs on offer, so whether you’re in the mood for fitness, socialising, or relaxing, there’s something for you!

The Great Outdoors Although Telford is known for its industrial reputation, it is also surrounded by some areas of natural beauty. Here you can enjoy the countryside with a cycle, walk or run.
