Helping our neighbours at RSH

We have received correspondence from our Royal Shrewsbury Hospital neighbours There is increasing concern about the safety of the roads surrounding the hospital due to staff parking

Due to some of these roads being unadopted, it may seem technically that parking is acceptable, but this is causing a great deal of anxiety for our neighbours as cars are blocking junctions and dropped kerbs These roads are now becoming single lane roads due to the number of cars parking on them, meaning large vehicles are unable to pass and may cause damage to parked vehicles and parents and children are unable to see clearly to safely cross the roads

We are working with Shropshire Council and local police to see what can be done, but we are also appealing to you, our staff, to really engage with our Trust values and do the right thing for our neighbours Please do what you can to utilise a free, safe Park & Ride service

Free up spaces for patients at PRH

Some of our patients and colleagues are finding it hard to park on site at Princess Royal Hospital We have a plan to configure the car parks to ensure that staff and patient parking are clearly defined We know that this means that we need more colleagues to use the Park & Ride service at PRH This is a free, easy, accessible option

We are asking everyone that can, to use this service to free up spaces for our patients and shift working colleagues

A recent feedback survey found that 100% of those asked about the PRH Park & Ride would recommend it to a colleague and 100% rated the overall service as excellent

You can find more information on how to register to use the Park & Ride, on the intranet.

Parking enforcements in colleague car parks

To maintain safety we will be issuing parking enforcements (PCNs) for any colleagues parking in colleague parking spaces without the right permit This will also include PCNs for any patients parking incorrectly in these areas Please make sure that you have registered for your monthly permit or the new pay-as-you-go option You can read more about how to apply for each permit on the intranet, and what to do if you receive a PCN Thank you for your support

17,827 journeys have been made on the Park & Ride so far in 2025!

Total number of passengers on each journey at RSH from January - March 2025

This includes colleagues, patients and visitors

If you wish to switch from your existing permit to pay-as-you-go, then you will need to cancel your current permit and apply for the new system

Please note that when you cancel your monthly permit, it will cease to be valid from midnight on the day you cancel, but because the payment is taken from your salary, in arrears, you may still see the monthly payment on your next payslip

You will then need to reapply via the Nexus portal for the ‘daily/hourly rate permit’ Not doing so may result in you being charged the public rate for parking You will need to download the JustPark app for when you need to park on site, and pay after your parking session has ended Full instructions can be found on the intranet

Greener alternatives

We know we have a lot of colleagues who already choose greener alternatives to driving onsite Thank you for doing your bit to support our sustainability programme If you are interested in exploring these options you can find more information on the intranet.
