NHS Pay Scales The following is a guide only to NHS Terms and Conditions of Service (Agenda for Change) pay rates from April 2020. You should always check with the employer to confirm the pay rate for any post for which you are applying as they are subject to change.

There are nine pay bands and each one has a number of pay points. Staff will normally progress to the next pay point annually until they reach the top of the pay band. There is also additional pay for unsociable hours and weekends.

Preceptorship Preceptorship is a 12-month programme for newly qualified nurses (NQ) and nursing associates (NQNA) to consolidate and enhance the skills gained during training. At SaTH we run 2 cohorts of preceptorship per year - April and September. All NQN and NQNA are welcomed to complete the preceptorship programme. Please speak to your manager or one of our CPE team for further details.

Our 12-month programme includes: • A designated, experienced RN to provide professional support and guidance for the duration of the programme • A structured timetable of six study days, including a simulated coroner’s hearing, communication, safe care delivery, leadership and accountability.

• Ongoing support from the Clinical Practice Educator (CPE) Team in the form of visits to the clinical area.

New from April 2020: • Access to a career conversation, providing an opportunity to discuss professional development opportunities beyond the completion of the preceptorship year.

• The introduction of a research component, supported by the Trust’s Lead Nurse for Research, encouraging participants to deliver up to date, evidence based practice.

• Continuing clinical visits by the CPE team, underpinned by online sessions enabling newly qualified practitioners to feel supported in their clinical roles.

Scheduled Care Scheduled Care mostly provides planned care, such as appointments and operations. It's wards and departments include the state‐of‐the‐art Lingen Davies Centre, which cares for oncology and haematology patients, as well as the chance to work in the stimulating environment of Theatres. The £5million Lingen Davies Centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital provides a spacious environment to treat patients, and includes some of the latest equipment such as the £2.8million Linear Accelerator, used in Radiotherapy to treat cancer.

There is also a surgical emergency assessment unit, the only ward of it's kind in Shropshire.

It's one of the emergency portals for the hospital, where we assess acutely ill surgical patients.

In Telford, Scheduled Care provides the chance to work on one of our newest wards at PRH, where Head and Neck patients are treated. Within Head, Neck and Ophthalmology there are also opportunities to support the treatment of Ear, Nose and Throat patients; those requiring Maxillo‐facial surgery, Oral surgery/ orthodontics, Restorative and community dentistry, Audiology, Ophthalmology, and Orthoptics. Both hospitals also feature busy Outpatient Departments, Day Surgery, Theatres, as well as the chance to support our Anaesthetics department and work in Critical Care helping to support the recovery of some of our most seriously ill patients in our Intensive Therapy Units (ITUs) and High Dependency Units (HDUs) at both sites. Scheduled Care offers the opportunity to work within the speciality of Orthopaedics which includes Trauma Surgery and caring for patients with debilitating joint conditions such as arthritis. It also includes the Pain Team.

Unscheduled Care Unscheduled Care at the Trust provides opportunities to work on the frontline in a variety of emergency and medical disciplines at both the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

Both hospitals have Emergency Departments/Urgent Care Centres, as well as Acute Medical Units (AMUs) offering the chance to work in a fast‐paced environment helping people with a range of illnesses and injuries.

Within Unscheduled Care our hospitals also feature a number of medical wards. This includes: Renal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Stroke Medicine, Cardiology, the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Cardio Respiratory, Cardiac Rehab, General Internal Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Care of the Elderly, Neurology, and Dermatology.

Each of these specialties offers a different opportunity to provide care and compassion to patients with a team recognised for its dedication to patient care.

Our Emergency Department We currently operate two fully functioning A&E centres at both Shrewsbury and Telford equipped with well-resourced resuscitation areas, monitored major cubicles, and dedicated minor areas. Both departments also have prompt access to CT scanners and a full 24-hour pathology service. At present surgical services are concentrated at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, and the Princess Royal Hospital does not take major trauma or surgery arriving by ambulance.

We have successfully secured £312m of investment from the Government for the reconfiguration of our two hospitals. For 5 years we have been working on a plan to unify the A&E into one hospital yet making it 50% bigger, and downgrade the 2 current A&E’s to 24 hour urgent care centres which can receive most of the current enquiries with the support of enhanced clinical roles. We have begun the journey to reconfigure our Emergency Department nursing team. We have increased the numbers in senior nursing, therefore there are lots of opportunities not just for Band 5 positions, but also Band 6 and Band 7.
