Values Week will be taking place from Monday 1 July to Friday 5 July and will provide an opportunity to celebrate our commitment to our Values, recognise the important role they play in what we do and the difference they make to our colleagues and patients.
Please get involved in the events happening throughout Values Week. You can download a digital Values Week pack for your team/ward/ department.
As part of Values Week, we are hosting an array of sessions and workshops. These will focus on how we live our Values on a daily basis to achieve our vision of providing excellent care to the communities we serve, and create a great place to work. These sessions can be found in this timetable on our intranet.

Have a conversation in your team
Values Week is a great opportunity to refresh your team’s Values Behaviour Framework and reflect on how you as individuals, and as a team, live our Values. If you need any support with your framework, please contact our OD team at sath.organisationaldevelopmentteam@nhs.net
Please also find a downloadable poster for your team to sign up to live the Values in the digital Values Week pack. You may wish to display this on your team noticeboard.
Wear your favourite PACT colour during the week. Send your selfies to sath.commsteam@nhs. net to feature in Chatterbox. For those wearing uniforms, get creative with socks, hair bobbles or even ties. There will be a prize for best outfit showcasing a PACT colour.
Let us know who you think lives and breathes our Values so we can feature them in our Values Week hall of fame. Send their name, department and a brief description of how they live our Values in 10 words to sath.commsteam@nhs.net
Our Vision: To provide excellent care for the communities we serve.
Our Vision is underpinned by four key values, which were developed in partnership with our colleagues, patients, their families and the wider community.
Partnering - working effectively together with patients, families, colleagues, the local health and care system, universities and other stakeholders and through our improvement alliance.
Ambitious - setting and achieving high standards for ourselves personally and for the care we deliver, both today and in the future. Embracing innovation to continuously improve the quality and sustainability of our services.
Caring - showing compassion, respect and empathy for our patients, families and each other, caring about the difference we make for our community.
Trusted - open, transparent and reliable, continuously learning, doing our best to consistently deliver excellent care for our communities.
Take part in the NHS Birthday Park Run on Saturday 6 July at 9am at the Quarry, Shrewsbury, or Telford Town Park and look out for your NHS colleagues.
Please use the digital Values Week pack to download new posters to display on your team noticeboards which really bring to life how we are living our Values.

Wellbeing Week took place this week which allowed us to promote all aspects of wellbeing, spanning mental, physical and emotional wellbeing, financial security and a healthy and flexible working environment. Thank you to everyone who took part. Please take this opportunity to read our health and wellbeing pages on the intranet detailing support available to you.
As June draws to a close, it is time to put away the rainbow flags for another year.
Throughout the month, members and allies of the PRIDE staff network have been working hard to promote the network and its values. Diversity, inclusion, and respect are all part of what it means to work at SaTH.
The PRIDE staff network exists to support our LGBT+ colleagues in the contribution they make to the wider team. It is a space where people can share their experiences of what it means to be LGBT+ and any challenges they face.
Events in June have included lighting up the main ward block at RSH with the Pride flag and taking part in local initiatives. In our hospitals, we have hosted two events where colleagues were encouraged to sign a pledge of support, take a badge, and sign up to the network as an LGBT+ member or one of our many allies.
This was supported by the EDI Team, our caterers, and our library staff who have lots of available literature. We hope to host more events in the year and take part in Shrewsbury Pride on Saturday 28 September – watch this space.
I would encourage everyone who can to join one of our growing number of staff networks. They all offer support and encouragement to one another and help promote a better understanding and recognition of all the people who make up our fantastic and diverse team across SaTH.
Together we are stronger…
Rev. Patrick Aldred Lead Chaplain and Chair of Pride Network
Thank you to our estates and facilities colleagues
Last week we celebrated national Estates and Facilities Day, which gave us an opportunity to recognise the essential work of our wonderful estates and facilities colleagues. They all play a huge part in the delivery of care to our patients. A big thank you to all of them for their daily commitment and dedication.
Last Thursday the Green Gym at PRH was relaunched, with free personal training sessions for staff.
Across the week colleagues were invited to take part in the Great Health Bioblitz pilot across all sites – an event for the whole of the NHS to take part. The Great Health Biobloitz is the first biodiversity assessment of its type of the healthcare estate. Colleagues were asked to look at what they could see around them and log it so that the data can be used to identify what species are in need of protection;.
These records help to increase biodiversity, protect it and develop the Trust’s biodiversity plans. The pictures show the Therapy Team at PRH doing a nature walk with patients as part of this Bioblitz.
On Friday the Shropshire Wildlife Trust was on site to help colleagues with identifications for the Bioblitz.
Colleagues were also invited to the Mytton Oak building to view the new Coronation Orchard, which has recently been planted.
The Trust was given the trees from Shropshire Council, as part of the King’s Coronation Orchard Project. This project encourages community groups to grow a tradition orchard.
The Trust was given 10 trees in total, five apple trees which includes a mixture of cooking and dessert apples, two pear trees, two plum trees and one damson tree.
Recently the Trust had a digital upgrade to Medisoft in Ophthalmology. This has been replaced with MediSIGHT, which is the same company but a new application.
It has been a big change for the teams involved. We
would like to thank everyone who took part in the switchover including our floorwalkers. MediSIGHT is more user friendly, quicker and feedback is very positive.
The countdown is on for the new Paediatric Vitals system featuring national paediatric early warning signs (PEWS).
The system will go live in the paediatric wards on Tuesday 16 July and in the emergency department on Wednesday 17 July. This week
the Digital Team successfully delivered Paediatric Vitals training to both area’s practice education facilitators (PEFs).
Training sessions for colleagues who work in the relevant departments will be open to book shortly on LMS.
This could be your only opportunity to abseil off the top of the ward block at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and raise funds to improve the health of local people.
• Are you up for a challenge?
• Would you like to look out and take in the views across Shropshire before abseiling down the side of the five-storey ward block.
• Would you like to raise funds to support an area or service within our hospitals to improve the experience of healthcare for local people?
If you’ve said ‘yes’ to any of those questions you will love our charity event, an abseil from the top of the ward block at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on Saturday 21 September 2024.
SaTH Charity, Lingen Davies and the League of Friends have come together to raise funds to improve the health care of local people through this unique charity abseil.
You will experience the views across Shropshire and into Wales and then the thrill of conquering an abseil off the five-storey ward block. By taking on this challenge and fundraising you will be supporting local people who are treated in our hospitals, helping to provide a supportive environment for our patients to improve their wellbeing and recovery.
You can choose whether you want to raise money for SaTH Charity, Lingen Davies Cancer Fund or the League of Friends. If you choose to raise money for SaTH Charity, you can choose from one of our 64 charitable funds to support. The best news is regardless of who you choose all the money raised after your registration will support patients from Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and mid Wales.
The registration fee for the abseil is £78, this covers the full cost of hosting through our fully ensured and experienced delivery partner. This approach ensures every penny raised in donations goes to the hospital. We are asking that those taking part aim to raise funds of at least £100. Our team is on hand to help you reach this target.
Accept the challenge, be an inspiration and abseil for a great cause.
Join Team SaTH for an exceptional adventure! You can sign up here and if you have any questions please contact sath.charity@nhs.net or via phone 01743 492256.

To all the staff at the Chemotherapy Day Unit, a huge thank you! It is three years since I first walked into the unit, feeling very vulnerable and very shocked by my diagnosis. I was coming for palliative chemo to give me a bit longer. You were so kind, so attentive to detail, so able to make me feel that I would cope ok. You had helpful tips and I felt safe, six rounds later the inoperable became possibly operable so we gave it a go. Hurray - it worked. It was a rough year, much of it forgotten, but it extended my life. I am still here! Thank you all for the part you played. I have had excellent care from consultants and yourselves. Farewell for now and hope it is ages until I come back in.
