SaTH has invested in state-of-the-art specialist cameras which visualise the radiation dose being given to patients with cancer – refining the accuracy of treatment for patients.

SaTH is the first Trust in the country to use DoseRT which works alongside the new linear accelerator (LINAC) machine.

DoseRT ensures the right dose is delivered in the right place at the right time, enhancing patient safety and improving health outcomes #movingtoexcellence

The Little Things Challenge •

As we gear up for winter, we all need to challenge every pound we spend.

Penny the pig is back out visiting teams this month, alongside our Execs, spreading the word about The Little Things Challenge.

We have big transformation programmes to help drive improvements and reach financial balance, but we mustn’t forget about the ‘little things’.

•

Over 150 efficiency ideas have been submitted so far - we are working through these and will share some success stories with you very soon.

We’d love to hear from teams that are driving efficiency and seeing improvements, so please let us know what you are doing in your area.

Construction continues at pace – IHP are expecting to complete the concrete frame for the final area before Christmas

Our estate: Car parking Princess Royal Hospital Park & Ride •

Thank you to everyone using the Park and Rides and releasing car parking spaces for those who need them most

The PRH Park & Ride service is changing from Monday 1 December.

•

From this date staff can use the Arriva Number 4 bus to get to and from Princess Royal Hospital free of charge.

•

The bus service will have increased operating hours and will run from 6.39am to 9.31pm meaning more staff can use it to get to and from work and the bigger bus can accommodate more passengers. The buses run at various intervals throughout the day.

There is a short walk from the car park to the bus stop on Watling Street.

•

At PRH the bus drops off at bus stop A, and picks up from bus stop B.

To access this free service staff will need to do the following:

Meet the Team: Clinical Audit Department A few faces from the Clinical Audit Team

The Clinical Audit Department is responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and improving the quality of patient care. Its role is to ensure that clinical practice aligns with established standards, guidelines, and best practices.

The team are experienced in audit methodology and works closely with our internal colleagues (clinicians, managers, governance teams, and support services) as well as external bodies (NHS England, NICE, CQC, and other regulators) to ensure that patient care is measured against national standards and continuously improved.

The Clinical Audit Department is responsible for the coordination and delivery of the Trust’s Clinical Audit Programme, which includes national audits, local priority audits, and re-audits to close the audit cycle. The team also support compliance with NICE guidance, national quality standards, and other external requirements.

Laura previously worked as a Senior Sister in the Emergency Department at PRH, where she played a key role in numerous improvement projects.

Her passion for learning and commitment to driving positive change makes her transition into the Improvement Hub perfect, particularly as we head into the winter period.

Laura is eager to support both Emergency Departments in delivering impactful improvements - and already has some exciting PDSAs on the horizon!

Leonie is a Consultant Orthodontist and the new Clinical Lead for Improvement at SaTH. With 18 years of post-graduate clinical experience across primary care, tertiary care and the military, Leonie has led numerous award-winning improvement projects within SaTH and with external partners. These include initiatives to optimising clinic utilisation, reducing waiting lists, enhancing patient experience and improving dental trauma pathways.

Leonie is committed to collaborative working, service development and empowering multidisciplinary teams to drive sustainable improvements across the group.

Three colleagues have been shortlisted for the prestigious HFMA Awards 2025. Kara Blackwell has been shortlisted for the "Working with Finance - Clinician of the Year Award," Carol McInness for the "Finance Champion Award," and Adam Winstanley for the "Deputy Director of Finance Award." The event will take pace in December.

We have been shortlisted for two categories in the prestigious HSJ Awards. One for our fantastic work to improve the care and experience of armed services and veterans through our Armed Forces Improvement Programme and the other for the exceptional work and innovation demonstrated towards delivering greener and more sustainable care.

Shrewsbury Men’s Shed have been shortlisted for a Partnering Award due to its ongoing work with SaTH. Winners will be announced at the House of Commons on Thursday 27 November. Katey Evans, Personalised Care Navigator, pictured, and the Shed’s Workshop Manager Merl Thomas will be going along.
