Millions secured by cancer team The Macmillan Benefits Team at SaTH has secured over £8.5 million in financial help for people with cancer in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin over the last three years.

The incredible total has been increasing year-on-year and in last financial year totalled £3.6million.

Angela Pattison, Macmillan Welfare Rights Unit Manager, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and we are going from strength-to-strength as a service, year-onyear.

“Over the last three years we have received 2,088 referrals into the Macmillan Welfare Rights Service for the Shropshire area. These referrals were received from a mix of Cancer Nurse Specialist, self-referrals and external partners.

“As a service we work holistically with the patient and their families. The last 12 months have been hard for everyone. Ensuring patients are able to access support, advice and assistance with benefit applications and information to enable them to maximise their household income and make life a little easier through a difficult period is so important.”

COVID Hero Awards

More colleagues across the Trust have been presented with COVID-19 Hero Recognition Awards.

As we reported last week, the awards were launched to recognise the efforts of everybody who has gone above and beyond since the start of the pandemic.

Members of the Executive and Senior Leadership teams have been presenting as many awards in person as possible.

We’re sure you’ll see many familiar faces in the pictures on this page.

The next Disability, Ability & Wellbeing Network meeting will take place on 29 June at midday. The Chair is Edith Macalister.

The next SaTH PRIDE Network meeting will be on July 1 at 11am; and the Chair is Clare O’Neill.

The next meeting of the Race Equality & Inclusion Network will be on 1 July at 3pm. The Chair is Jas Smith.

Network meetings take place via Teams and provide support, create a safe space, address issues and engender a sense of belonging for all.

Dementia Tier 2 Training for all staff Band 6 and above (you must have competed tier 1 workbook. If you have completed a one day training session, you do not need to attend).

Dates available 6 July—December 2021 at RSH and PRH. Band 5 rollout will take place from January onwards.

Louise Green, Lead Clerical Officer in the Shropshire Anticoagulation Service based in Pathology, has recently successfully achieved her SFJ Awards Level 4 qualification in Business Administration.

Louise has studied for this throughout 2020 into 2021 during the pandemic which posed professional and personal challenges, impacting her studies.

Despite these Louise demonstrated enthusiasm, determination and commitment throughout to complete the qualification successfully.

Jean Pengilley has been presented with her 40 year Long Service Award by Joe Warwick, Assistant Catering Operations Manager.

Jean has worked in catering at RSH since September 1978 predominantly as a cook but more recently as a Patient Services Catering Supervisor.

If you think you’re eligible for a long service award, you will need to have a conversation with your line manager.

Your line manager will need to confirm your eligibility by submitting a form.

At SaTH your wellbeing matters and that’s why we all need to take some time to consider th factors which have an impact on our wellbeing.

The COVID-19 crisis has affected us all, whether this is within our personal life or at work. This is w this week we’ve launched Wellbeing Wednesdays. Each Wednesday we will be touching on a diffe topic ranging from exercise, nutrition, sleep, financial advice and mindfulness. You will be able to fi useful tips, resources and we will also be arranging some online sessions.

Each Wednesday our staff wellbeing team will be walking round our two hospitals to speak to you, how you are feeling and what we can do to support you and to promote the importance of looking a ourselves. They will be in their purple wellbeing t-shirts so do look out for them – they are there to h you.

These sessions will be facilitated by Team Prevent and are available for all staff to attend. To book please email l.westcott@nhs.net and you will be sent a link for the session.

As part of Wellbeing Wednesday, we’ve created a Wellbeing Wheel which is intended to help you think about your wellbeing and lifestyle. We encourage all staff to work with a trusted colleague or l manager to complete the Wellbeing Wheel and to develop a Wellbeing Action Plan which you shou review regularly. This booklet also outlines the support available from SaTH to help improve and enhance your wellbeing.

why erent As part of our Wellbeing Wednesday’s we are pleased to launch our full Long COVID ind Support package for staff and managers. This includes a support group, information booklet, manager’s guidance to support staff with long COVID and a breathing techniques video created by our Physiotherapists. Nature is all around us whether it be in a garden, outside our office window, a local park or on daily walks. We are very lucky at SaTH with the surroundings we have, on therefore we have put together these walking route maps and a list of common wildlife for you to enjoy on your own or with colleagues, friends and family. This could be on your lunch break or maybe schedule in a weekly walk after work in the evening. More info here. k We have added more financial sessions to our wellbeing offer. In many situations, having someone to talk to can lighten our load; when we are listened to this helps us to feel valued.

Therefore we have trained a group of staff from across the Trust as Peer to Peer (P2P) Volunteers to help support colleagues. P2P are trained to provide confidential, non-judgmental peer support, signposting to other internal contacts where appropriate. P2P listeners are trained in supportive listening skills but they won’t be acting as counsellors.

I had a procedure today and from the moment I arrived with my husband we were treated with the level of care the NHS should be proud of. I was made to feel at ease and fully informed all the way through my procedure. I would like to thank all the staff involved in my care.
