Irene’s tribute to the NHS Irene Stasinski, a 90 year-old poet, has produced her own anthology complete with illustrations as a tribute to the NHS and health workers. Irene was recently admitted to SaTH and spent her time writing poems. Her friend Suzanne Edwards (pictured left) said: “The idea came because Irene was taken to hospital before Christmas. While she was in there and recovering, she was writing poetry. The Sister on the ward asked her if she would create a booklet for the ward, and when she came home she rang me up.” Suzanne runs the Drayton ArtsFest, in Market Drayton, and decided to help bring Irene’s poetry to a wider audience. “Because we couldn’t run the festival this year, there was a bit of money that we felt could go towards community projects. We decided to support the promotion of this and help to get it distributed.” Suzanne typed out 11 of Irene’s quirky poems, some about her time in hospital and some describing her experiences in wartime Britain, and complied them into a booklet with Irene’s own illustrations. A copy of the anthology has been gifted to each ward at SaTH Irene said: “I hope your patients and staff enjoy reading them.” Experience of Care Week: Pages 10 & 11
