Warp speed ahead SaTH has saved £88,088 in the last financial year alone using the Warp It redistribution system.

Since joining Warp It in 2015, the Trust has saved a total of £367,321, avoided 67,449kg of waste, and created one new full-time job.

SaTH has also formed collaborations with other organisations which now regularly donate furniture, equipment, and other items to be used on the system.

Leading the re-use journey is Alex Ford, Waste and Sustainable Travel Plan Co-ordinator (pictured).

Alex has grown the re-use community to 1,308 members, from just 50 in 2015, with 1,028 being frequently active.

Alex said: “I inherited the Warp It system at a time when it wasn’t being used. Back then there were only 50 staff who had signed up, and our storage area had closed down. I knew I had to reach out to staff across the Trust if we were going to make headway and get people using the system.”

Changes announced for women and support partners accessing Maternity Services SaTH is pleased to welcome one support partner appointments at GP surgeries, however we are for all women attending antenatal appointments working with GP colleagues and will update on any and ultrasound scans at hospital sites. changes as soon as possible.

With the support of Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin councils, maternity services users and their chosen support partner can access a lateral flow test prior to attending antenatal and ultrasound scan appointments.

The introduction of this testing will enable a chosen support person to accompany women to some appointments whilst also ensuring the safety of staff and other people using maternity services.

Due to space and capacity within these departments, we are currently unable to accommodate support partners. Partners will be contacted if needed.

In the last few months, SaTH Charity has had the pleasure of supporting lots staff via the Small Things Make a Big Difference Fund.

The restricted fund has the sole aim of improving the working environment and amenities for all employees. Funds are raised via the staff lottery, purchases made through Amazon Smile where SaTH are the nominated Charity, and from public donations when they have specifically fundraised for staff.

With this money we have been able to order numerous wellbeing items which we have distributed through seven wellbeing events, including a night-run for evening staff.

We have also distributed items to our colleagues at Atcham, Shrewsbury, and Queensway Business Parks, and our Fertility centre. When staff have been unable to meet us, or we have been unable to get to them, we have posted items out (if your team hasn’t been able to see us, please email sath.charity@nhs.net and we will do our best to arrange something for your department).

Children at Wooden Tops Day Nursery in Woodside, Telford, raised £850 for SaTH Charity with a sponsored walk.

After completing laps of their playground, the children asked that the money go towards the Children’s Ward at PRH.

Danielle Spencer, Deputy Manager of the nursery, said the children had been learning about the contributions made by Captain Sir Tom Moore when they decided to raise funds themselves.

She said: “The children have been looking at photographs of Captain Sir Tom and learning all about what he has achieved.

It’s not ‘Goodbye’, it’s ‘See you later’ Next week will signify the end of an era for Gynaecology Nurse Jackie Thomas who is taking semiretirement after more than 30 years with the NHS.

Trudy James, who works alongside Jackie, and has been her friend for many years, said: “Jackie has been a very dedicated member of the NHS family for over 30 years; first working at the old Shelton hospital as a nursing assistant, before completing her nursing training.

“Once qualified, she began working on the old Ward 11, female surgical ward.

She also worked on short stay surgical and day surgery, prior to joining the Gynaecology ward all on the old RSH South site. She then became a Gynaecology Oncology Nurse Specialist.

“Jackie helped to not only set up the service, but has continued to help develop it along with her colleagues, for over 20 years. She is loved and respected by her colleagues and patients alike. Although Jackie is retiring, she is planning to return to work part time, much to our delight.

She is a dear friend, respected colleague and a wonderful nurse.”

Sophie Linney who joined the team last year, added: “I have been fortunate enough to work closely with Jackie over the last year to see what a wonderful nurse she is. Jackie always treats patients with kindness and compassion and always goes that extra mile for them. She has been a credit to

SaTH and the NHS over the last 30 years and I’m sure she will be greatly missed by everyone.”

Amy Doyle, has worked with Jackie both as a gynaecology secretary and more recently working closely with her as a Gynaecology Cancer care navigator. She said: “It’s been such a pleasurable 18 years working with Jacs in some form or another. Her kindness, helpfulness and generosity is infectious. She has always been so approachable, hardworking and a natural with the patients and their relatives.

Nick Reed, Gynaecology Oncology Consultant and former Gynaecology Oncology lead said: “I cannot believe Jackie is retiring. All great things come to an end and we all wish her well.

Dr Banchhita Sahu, lead consultant for Gynaecology/Oncology, said: “Jackie is an enthusiastic, compassionate colleague who has always gone above and beyond, supporting all team members and most importantly our patients during their own really difficult times. During the pandemic, when our CNS capacity was hugely reduced, she has ensured all our patients felt supported throughout their journey from diagnosis till discharge.”

William Parry-Smith, Gynaecology/ Oncology Consultant, said: “Jackie is a wonderful nurse and works harder than anyone I know” Kathryn Poli, who has worked with Jackie as Cancer Performance manager, added: “Having watched the Jackie treading the boards at Theatre Severn, hopefully retirement will give her time to dust off her tap shoes and get back on the stage. She will be missed by many”.

Vicki Burrows, Gynaecology Cancer Care Navigator, said: “It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to work with Jackie and I have learnt so much from her.

The COVID-19 crisis has affected us all, whether this is within our personal life or a work. This is why this week we’ve launched Wellbeing Wednesdays. Each Wednesday we will be touching on a different topic ranging from exercise, nutrition, sleep, financial advice and mindfulness. You will be able to find useful tips, resource and we will also be arranging some online sessions.

Each Wednesday our staff wellbeing team will be walking round our two hospitals to speak to you, ask how you are feeling and what we can do to support you and to promote the importance of looking after ourselves. Peer-to-peer listeners In many situations, having someone to talk to can lighten our load; when we are listened to this helps us to feel valued.

Therefore we have trained a group of staff from across the Trust as Peer to Peer (P2P) Volunteers to help support colleagues. P2P are trained to provide confidential, non-judgmental peer support, signposting to other internal contacts where appropriate.

P2P listeners are trained in supportive listening skills but they won’t be acting as counsellors.
