Full programme announced for next week’s virtual Health and Care Wellbeing Festival The festival has been organised to offer all health and care staff the chance to get involved with a variety of different wellbeing events. It includes headline speakers, workshops on topics such as menopause, men’s health and healthy lifestyle and activity sessions including yoga, meditation, mindfulness to name a few. Access All Areas The virtual festival is live next week from Monday 6 to Friday 10 September with day and evening sessions available to give everyone the chance to get involved. SaTH Chief Executive Louise Barnett will deliver a Welcome on Friday at 10am—and a Welcome Back at 6pm.

The event is free of charge for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin ICS health and care colleagues. The whole event is available to everyone to view without any registration and everything will all be available on catch-up throughout the week to enable you to view and participate in the sessions at a time that suits you.

In the true ‘festival’ approach, you will be able to visit all the different ‘tents’ to view what’s on and dip in and out to suit your own interests and schedules.

Rapid Response Team The Rapid Response Team (RRT) will be coming to our hospitals to hand out RRT Frontline Snack packs, and RRT Care Kits.

They are donating these to emergency service personnel on the frontline.

“The snack pack includes Peperami sticks, crisps, a breakfast bar, a packet of sweets, Nutella & breadsticks, dried apricots, SOS Electrolyte Hydration sachet compatible with the RRT bottled water packed into a reusable bag for ease of transport.

“We have tailored the Snack Packs to the needs of the frontline workers, nurses and doctors and others who are on the go and need a refuel during their working day. We hope this will provide some refreshment and reenergise the frontline workers.

The care kit includes Aloe Vera lotion, Aloe Vera Lip Balm, Aloe cleansing wipes, a pocket comb, nail buffer, toothbrush & toothpaste packed into a washbag for ease of transport. Aloe Vera is renowned for its medicinal properties and health benefits

which is why we have tailored the Care Kit to the needs of the frontline workers, nurses and doctors and others who are have been under immense pressure this past year. We hope this will provide some relief and healing.” – The Rapid Response Team Julia Clarke Director of Public Participation said “We are very grateful that RRT are supporting our workforce on both sites in this way. The Rapid Response Team are known for attending our previous Fun Days and hosting a magnificent BBQs for us.

“Due to the Pandemic, they haven’t been able to do this for a few years and are handing out these packs to show their appreciation instead. I know this will be a real boost for staff and a huge thank you to RRT for their continued support.”

A new group has been launched in Shrewsbury for people living with and beyond cancer to encourage them to stay active, supported by the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.

Shrewsbury 5kYourWay meets at Shrewsbury Parkrun on the last Saturday of every month. It is a support group with a difference for patients, family, friends and healthcare professionals to come along and run, walk, jog or cheer at Parkrun in a social and supportive environment.

There are six ambassadors who will accompany people as they go around the course and then meet afterwards for coffee. SaTH colleagues Sarah Mawhinney, a Biomedical Scientist in the Histopathology department, and Amy Doyle, cancer care navigator for Gynaecology are two of the ambassadors involved.

Some of the ambassadors have been treated for cancer and know how important staying active is, especially during their treatment and recovery.

Sarah went to Parkrun throughout her treatment for breast cancer and found that being active really helped recovery, especially during chemotherapy. It was also really helpful mentally.

The Lingen Davies Cancer Fund are supporting the group and Shrewsbury 5kYourWay are looking forward to working with the team at Lingen Davies as they move forward.

The group are looking forward to welcoming anyone who feels they might benefit from this, and the next meeting is 25 September.

The group meets in the Quarry park, near the bandstand at 8.45am, ready for a 9am Parkrun start. There is no pressure on anyone to run and all ages and abilities are welcome.

At SaTH your wellbeing matters and that’s why we all need to take some time to consider the factors which have an impact on our wellbeing.

The COVID-19 crisis has affected us all, whether this is within our personal life or at work. This is why week we’ve launched Wellbeing Wednesdays. Each Wednesday we will be touching on a different top ranging from exercise, nutrition, sleep, financial advice and mindfulness. You will be able to find usefu tips, resources and we will also be arranging some online sessions.

Each Wednesday our staff wellbeing team will be walking round our two hospitals to speak to you, ask how you are feeling and what we can do to support you and to promote the importance of looking afte ourselves. They will be in their purple wellbeing t-shirts so do look out for them – they are there to help you.

These sessions will be facilitated by Team Prevent and are available for all staff to attend. To book please email l.westcott@nhs.net and you will be sent a link for the session.

As part of Wellbeing Wednesday, we’ve created a Wellbeing Wheel which is intended to help you thin about your wellbeing and lifestyle. We encourage all staff to work with a trusted colleague or line manager to complete the Wellbeing Wheel and to develop a Wellbeing Action Plan which you should review regularly. This booklet also outlines the support available from SaTH to help improve and enha your wellbeing.

This includes a support group, information booklet, ul manager’s guidance to support staff with long COVID and a breathing techniques video created by our Physiotherapists. Nature is all around us whether it be in a garden, outside our office window, a local park or on daily walks. We are very lucky at SaTH with the surroundings we have, therefore we have put together these walking route maps and a list of common wildlife for you to enjoy on your own or with colleagues, friends and family. This could be on your lunch break or maybe schedule in a weekly walk after work in the evening. More info here.

Barclay’s Bank will be delivering seminars on “New to Investing” and “Move or Improve” throughout July 2021 and to ensure these are easily accessible to staff we will be delivering these online as well as streaming at both PRH and RSH sites.

Therefore we have trained a group of staff from across the Trust as Peer to Peer (P2P) Volunteers to help support colleagues. P2P are trained to provide confidential, non-judgmental peer support, signposting to other internal contacts where appropriate. P2P listeners are trained in supportive listening skills but they won’t be acting as counsellors.

My child was admitted as a trauma patient 2 weeks ago. Can you please thank A& E, the children’s ward, radiology, theatre team (PRH). They were all amazing.

You should be very proud of your staff. They made a very stressful experience bearable.
