ED Team set for Shrewsbury 10k A group of staff from our Emergency Department at RSH are taking part in the Shrewsbury 10k run this weekend in aid of a very special cause. The determined 14 runners include nursing staff, paramedics, healthcare assistants, management and doctors and they are taking part in the race to raise money for the Severn Hospice in memory of a friend and colleague, former SaTH member of staff, Carla Lea. Carla worked within the Emergency Centre prior to her diagnosis and was a valued and highly respected member of the team. She sadly passed away at the Severn Hospice in November 2019, having battled a rare form of cancer. Since her passing, friends and family have spoken of the fantastic care and support given to Carla and those around her by the Severn Hospice during that time. Charles McConville, Carla’s son, works as a flow co-ordinator within the department and has pulled together the team taking part in the race, including himself. He said “I’m looking forward to completing the run and raising money for the Severn Hospice, who do such great work despite relying on charitable donations for the majority of their funding. I’m touched that so many of my colleagues, many of whom knew and worked with my mum over the years, have volunteered to run alongside me. Although it will be an emotional day, I’m grateful for the opportunity to celebrate mum’s life in such a meaningful way.” To show your support and sponsor the team please visit their Just Giving Page.
