Response volunteers join Team SaTH Following a successful bid application from the Public Participation Team, NHS England have provided over £18,000 to develop a Response Volunteer Scheme. Volunteers are assigned to a hospital site rather than a ward or department and can respond to a number of tasks requested by wards and departments on the day, including:

 Discharge by escorting patients to and from discharge lounges from wards and providing companionship to patients getting ready to be discharged  Patient belonging drop off by collecting, logging and delivering belongings from relatives and friends  Patient and relative messaging service - delivering cards/ messages to wards.  Staff wellbeing by preparing and distributing Winter Treats Trolleys to staff and promoting SaTH Charity  Runners – Collecting notes and other items and taking them to different wards/ departments Each hospital has its own volunteer hub. At PRH, the Volunteer Hub can be found at the corner desk next in the main entrance. At RSH, the hub is temporarily based in the admissions office but will relocate next to the chaplaincy office in the next few weeks. We currently have nearly 50 volunteers across both hospitals. The Response Volunteer scheme will be in operation daily from 9am-5pm, including weekends. If your ward or department would like the Response Volunteers to support you, call 07704 363618 with your request. Response Volunteers cannot undertake clinical or Tristel cleaning tasks. Poppy Horrocks, Project Lead, said “This is a really exciting role for our volunteers that will bring huge benefits to patients and staff. This week we have been getting the team settled in and they have already started doing some fantastic work. They have been there to accept patient belongings and deliver letters from loved ones, but they have also been able to help with giving items to staff that have been donated to us, and they have also helped Catering who have been delivering lunchtime and evening bags of food for staff.”
