Get active with ‘Couch to 5K’ training programme SaTH is organising its very first Couch to 5K training programme, which starts in April and ends on July 4 at our Charity Fun Day.
a busy day at work, which as we all know can often be hectic and somewhat stressful, there is nothing better than pulling on your trainers and getting out into the fresh air for a run.
Places for the Couch to 5K programme are limited and bookings will be taken on a first come first served basis.

Register yourself on the Couch to 5K programme by using the Intranet’s Training Diary (in the Health and Wellbeing category) and then pay your £10 entry fee for the Charity Fun Run by visiting bookitzone.com/sath_charity/YWjFFX
The programme is being run with the support of Karen Breese, Dementia Nurse Specialist, who will be the course leader at RSH, and Lawley Running Club, which will lead the programme at PRH.
The programme officially starts on Monday 20 April at PRH and Wednesday 22 April at RSH (both starting at 5.45pm) and will continue for 11 weeks until the big day on Saturday 4 July.

The course leaders will support all members of staff, whether they be new to running or keen to get back into the sport.
The SaTH Couch To 5K programme is free, however participants will need to register for the Charity 5k Fun Run, which costs £10 with all the proceeds going to the SaTH Charity Living Well With Dementia Appeal.
All participants will need to brings trainers, comfortable clothes to run in, a high-viability top, water and a smile.
Organised by the Health and Wellbeing Team, the idea is to encourage staff at the Trust to get active by completing a tailored training programme that culminates with participation in the 5K Fun Run at the Charity Fun Day.

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Wolfie Wagner has gone under the razor to raise funds for a charity close to his heart. Mr Wagner had his head shaved last Thursday in the Theatres changing rooms at PRH. A colleague of Mr Wagner’s, who works in Liverpool, has a 10year-old son who has recently been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma—and they are raising money for Alder Hey Hospital where he is being treated. Anyone who would like to donate can do so by visiting the JustGiving link here.
Caring staff on Ward 10 receive donation from grateful family The family of a woman who spent her final week on Ward 10 at PRH have donated £640 to the team for the kindness they displayed during what was a very emotional period. The family of Vera Jackson said: “We would like to sincerely thank all the staff on Ward 10 for caring for our mother. When she first came into PRH we had no idea that she would not be coming out, so it was a difficult time for all concerned.
“The team tried to do everything they could and then, when it became clear she would not recover, they showed kindness, helped to keep her comfortable and minimise distress “They looked after us during those emotional days, allowing us to spend precious time with mom. Having that time help us enormously.” The donation came from donations made during Vera Jackson’s funeral. The team on Ward 10 would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated.

Staff on Ward 33 (SAU) at RSH are helping to making a difference for their patients by installing speciallydesigned new seating throughout the ward. The comfortable padded blue seats
replace old plastic seating – and have been welcomed by patients and their families. Gill Joseph, Matron, said the chairs were specially designed for patients and visitors to provide maximum
comfort, and added that the feedback to them had been incredibly positive. “We are really delighted with the difference they have made for our patients – and we have already had such positive feedback,” she said.
Book signing event at RSH Author K.S. Horack will be holding a book signing event outside the League of Friends office at RSH on Thursday 27 February to promote his latest book ‘Mildred the Crazy Cat Lady’. The author wrote large parts of his book while undergoing treatment at RSH and is now doing a signing event for staff, patients and visitors. And as a way of saying thank you, all staff and volunteers with valid NHS identification can buy the book on the day, which starts at 9am, for just £4. Those without valid NHS identification will have to pay the full retail price of £7.99—with all profits going to the League of Friends of RSH. At the same time as the book signing, the League of Friends of RSH will also be holding a table top sale nearby to help K.S. Charity Fun Day will celebrate Year of the Nurse and Midwife We want your old uniforms
Planning is well under way for the 2020 SaTH Charity Fun Day, which this year will be part of the Trust’s celebrations of the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife. The Annual Fun Day will take place at the Shropshire Conference Centre (SECC) at RSH on Saturday 4 July. As usual , things will kick off with a charity 5km fun run (see bottom of page for details) before stalls and attractions open in the grounds of SECC. Part of the success of the fun day has been the involvement of teams from the Trust, who have taken up stalls so they can speak to members of the public about what they do. And that’s where you come in. We are now taking stall bookings for this year’s event and want to make sure that any teams from SaTH who want to publicise their work don’t miss out.

You can enter the lottery by downloading a lottery entry form here. Alternatively, you can collect/request a form from the SaTH Charity office. Completed forms should be returned to sath.charity@nhs.net or the SaTH Charity Office (Suite 2, Stretton House, RSH). Providing entries are made by the end of a calendar month, deductions will be made from the subsequent month’s payroll, and you will be entered into the following month’s draw. For example, if you submit an entry form in October, payroll deductions occur in November, and you will be entered into the December draw. Your number(s) are automatically allocated and go forward into each month’s prize draw.
How much do tickets cost? Tickets cost £1 and a maximum of 5 tickets can be purchased. Payment will be deducted from your salary (a minimum of £1 per month to a maximum of £5 per month). It is the responsibility of each employee to check that deductions are accurate.
The remaining 50% of the money will go into the Small Things Makes a Big Difference Fund. There may be a one-off “super draw” every year with larger cash prizes. This will replace one of the monthly draws and will be publicised in advance of the draw date. When are the draws made? The draw will take place on the second Wednesday of each month. The winners will be announced in Chatterbox that week. NOTE: To be in the first draw in July a completed application form must be submitted in May. Can I enter the new Staff Lottery? The Staff Lottery is open to all staff working at SaTH who have regular contracted hours and are on the Trust’s payroll. How is money from the Fund awarded? A panel will award the money monthly in line with income to the Fund. They will meet on: 9 May, 11 June, 9 July, 13 August, 3 September, 8 October, 12 November and 10 December.

A prize pool will be created by the monthly contributions to the lottery. The greater the number of players, the bigger the cash prizes and funds raised for staff benefit.
Yes. Anyone wishing to say thank you to the staff at our hospitals can do this by using code ST211R in your ward paying in books. You can then bid for that money to improve your area of work.
