The sky’s the limit College art students have created a series of stunning ceiling tiles to help improve the experience of patients at PRH. The tiles are now in place on the ceilings in two treatment areas in the Gynaecology Department in the Shropshire Women and Children’s Centre. The idea for the painted ceiling tiles came from Staff Nurse Rosalind PonomerenkoJones who worked in collaboration with art students at Telford College of Arts and Technology. Lesley Stokes, Ward Manager for Gynaecology Services, said: “Rosalind had the idea to put art from the students at the college on the ceiling tiles in the department’s two treatment rooms. The aim of this was to act as a distraction for our patients while they are undergoing a procedure. “Rosalind is a very dedicated member of staff and she has really gone above and beyond for her patients.” The tiles represent the sea and the night sky, and have been painted in specialist materials which are fully compliant with infection prevention control. Rosalind said: “I am so grateful to the students for their brilliant art work, and the time and effort they spent creating them. “They really do help to make a difference to the experience that we offer our patients when they are in our treatment rooms. They are a source of conservation and distraction during a procedure, which can sometimes be uncomfortable for our patients. “The tiles have only been up for a couple of weeks, but our patients are already commenting on how lovely they look.”
