SaTH celebrates International Day of the Midwife

International Day of the Midwife (IDM) - an annual global event dedicated to celebrating and recognising the work of midwives—was celebrated yesterday.

an opportunity for our midwives to take a break on the day, have a chat, enjoy a hot drink and take part in activities. The teams also took the time to visit units with refreshments and to hand out goodie bags.

IDM video message and spoke of how proud she was of our teams and to be a midwife working at SaTH and thanked our midwifery colleagues. If you haven’t had a chance to view the message, you can do so here.

Midwives were invited to take a moment of reflection and write on display cards the things they were grateful for and the reasons why they became a midwife, with the powerful messages now on proud display in our Women’s and Children’s atrium.

As part of the day, we wanted to put a spotlight on our student midwives and interviewed Alice Jones to hear why she decided to pursue midwifery, the highlight of her experience so far, and much more. Visit our website to read the article and see what Alice had to say.

To mark the annual celebration, which was first launched in 1992, our teams went above and beyond to make the day extra special for midwives working across the Trust. The day’s activities were kicked off with IDM goodie bags being handed out across our units which included a ‘Thank You’ certificate, recognising the hard work and dedication of our midwives.
