SAS Memories and Reflections

END OF THE YEAR REFLECTION

I used to write a lot about not knowing what “home” meant,

About missing something I never knew.

I’d fill pages and pages with wistful hypotheticals of late nights and bonfires and inside jokes.

But that was before I met all of you.

I know my home now.

I know my family.

I met my family on the mountain top.

I met my home in chapel walls and overpriced van runs and family-style dinners.

I write about different things these days:

Piney Point sunsets and team wins and union horror movie marathons.

The truth is,

Waves don’t miss the moon,

Deserts don’t miss the rain,

Flowers don’t miss the bee.

Instead, they rejoice in the reunion.

Both eternal and ephemeral; they are grateful for the memories.

I met my family on the mountain top.

I am grateful for our memories.

And I cannot wait to rejoice in our reunion.
