Beyond the straightforward realistic documentation of a female prison cell, these walls and the fencing represent individual and the collective memories and histories of the challenges that are imposed on women by family, society, religious beliefs and the state.

Anomaa Rajakaruna has travelled extensively in Sri Lanka documenting the lives of community groups, particularly the lives of women and children in these communities and has addressed issues such as women in armed conflict, displacement, sexual harassment and violence against women. She uses poetry, photography and d ocumentary film for expression and has won several awards for her work both nationally and internationally. Her new short film series focuses on LGBT+ community in Sri Lanka.
