The flight feels hard, I can’t wait. I can’t sleep... No one in the seat next to me, and there’s a kitty ^•.•^ under my seat.

We’re flying over “Attdort,” whatever that is. The plane was empty, but somehow, little by little, it filled up with a huge family and their kids. We passed Attdort, and that’s nice—it means we’re moving forward. It’s exhausting here in this seat.

Time to read. Right now, across from me, sits a cheerful group of retirees with a crate of assorted wines. They trigger my addictions, bring me joy, and simultaneously stir my anxiety.

MAY 6, 2023, Paris: Park

I’m in a park. I’ve been here for a while. You can smell the air. It’s damp sitting on the grass. Around me, there’s chatter in French. I don’t understand what they’re saying. I’m listening more to the air than the words… I wouldn’t mind a second cappuccino… A magazine is open to a page with a portrait from Juergen Teller’s shoot. I need to find out what garden this is. The sky is gray, I love that. Almost blackish.

What do I want to integrate into my routine here?

1. Biking around the city

2. Learning to ride a scooter

3. Buying canvases for my work

4. Carrying groceries in a mesh bag

I’m sitting by the edge of the fountain. Its rim is pale gray like the sky and beige like the sand behind me and the buildings surrounding the garden. The water in the fountain is green, the bottom invisible. A jet streams noisily in the center of the wide, shallow bowl. There’s an unpleasant smell of a cigar. The breeze flows gently.

AUG 12,

I love the streaks of gray in my peers’ hair. I think it’s sexy and speaks of self-awareness… much like what happened to me. I only began recognizing myself after 30, and even more so much later.

SEPT 21, 2023, The Foundation

Walking from the 6th arrondissement to the 2nd, I felt a wave of derealization. The streets and buildings seemed like cardboard cutouts, stage props lit by yellow spotlights in the dark.

One half of the water’s surface is rippled by the wind, while the other—on my side—remains smooth. The tower made of beautiful glass tubes has been standing here for what feels like the third week now. Rainbows shimmer through it, so many rainbows. I often think about Z. It feels like there’s so much there—so much material that could be interesting. I’m sure he’s become a director by now.

DEC

A month ago, I sat in this café listening to a lecture by curator Burenkov for Russianspeaking émigrés about galleries in Paris. Now it’s cold. I’m freezing outside, wrapped in the café’s blanket… I think I’ll go warm up in an art supply store.

In Moscow, my dad is unwell, and I can’t help him—I have no energy... No money for food, for a hot drink to warm up. There’s €36 left on my card.
