Board President
Dear Friends of Saint Pius X School,
Thank you. These two words can never express our deep gratitude for your support of the SPX Annual Fund. The impact of your generosity was felt throughout the campus as we welcomed over 950 students for the 2025-26 school year. Because of you, St. Pius X is fulfilling our mission, providing students with opportunities for their moral, social and intellectual growth in a college preparatory setting.
As a community of faith, hope, love, and excellence, our highly qualified SPX faculty and staff guide our students to grow in their commitment to become ethical leaders in service of others. The Basilian motto, “Teach me goodness, discipline, and knowledge” continues to inspire generations of St. Pius X graduates. Called to live our Catholic values, each student sees that works of service and justice are ultimately accomplished in imitation of Christ. As SPX students discern God’s will

in their lives, they realize they are part of a greater community with an obligation to serve others, the hallmark of every Sartan.

Your participation in the SPX Annual Fund is an investment in our students as each day they grow in their faith and build life-long friendships, a hallmark of the SPX community. We invite current families, alumni, and friends of St. Pius X School to continue to invest in our students, our future leaders.
Your support of the SPX Annual Fund makes all of this possible. On behalf of each student who is able to find their way, grow and thrive due to your generosity, thank you.
St. Pius X, pray for us.

School Leadership A letter from

Dear St. Pius X Community,
Over the summer, we were hard at work building a new STREAM Center that blends Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, and Math. On one wall, you’ll find a striking photo of St. Pius X alumnus and astronaut, Mike Mullane ’63. When Mike was a student here, this program didn’t exist—yet with the guidance of our faculty and larger community, he gained the skills, discipline, and determination to succeed academically and professionally. Today, our students are developing those skills at a young age in an environment that fosters curiosity, creativity, and technical knowledge.
What hasn’t changed since Mike’s time is the strong foundation of support that defines a St. Pius X education. Supportive families, dedicated teachers, caring staff and coaches, and a generous community have always made our school exceptional.
A key aspect of that support is our Annual Fund, the engine behind so much of our recent growth and success. The fundraising total you see displayed at the front of campus is not just a number—it represents the generosity of so many in our community. And those funds don’t sit idle. They go immediately back into our programs, classrooms, and students. Without the Annual Fund, tuition would have to rise significantly.
From the well-attended and financially successful Buonasera Gala, to the creation of the Cynthia and Manuel ’65 Chavez Alumni Plaza, to providing iPads for all students—these are all made possible because our community continues to invest in the success of our young Sartans, equipping them to move forward with confidence.
As we navigate a new year, we thank every one of you who has brought us this far, and we invite you to help us continue the momentum. Last
year, 945 individuals supported our annual giving efforts—up from 650 the year before. This year, we must exceed 1,000 donors to meet the needs before us. Our campus requires ongoing improvements, financial aid requests are higher than ever, and our mission to provide the most innovative education possible remains urgent.
We pray for a continued spirit of generosity and know that your commitment of time, talent, and treasure to the Annual Fund will help our students develop their God-given gifts, so they may go on to build a better world that reflects God’s love and hope for all people.
With gratitude,
Mike Deely Head of School Fr. John Trambley President of School

Sartan Stories
Alumni Family Spotlight
Pius is more than a school—it’s where my family’s roots run deep, where memories are shared, and where connections last a lifetime.”
BETH TATE ‘94
The Sims & Tate Families
From a first date in the halls of the Louisiana campus to three generations of graduates carrying on the tradition, the Sims-Tate Family story is rooted in faith, service, and love for St. Pius X. Their legacy proves that you don’t just attend Pius—you carry it for life.
Some stories begin with a single moment. For Tom ’66 and Ann ’66 Sims, it was the day a confident Tom asked Ann on a date in the halls of St. Pius X’s Louisiana campus. That “yes” became the foundation of a lifelong partnership built on faith, service, and devotion to Catholic education.
At. St. Pius X, Tom played basketball, joined Explorer Scouts, and thrived in the Junior Classical League, while Ann poured her energy into Pep Club, Chorus, NHS, and student leadership.
After graduation, Tom earned a Ph.D. in Psychology, serving in Army hospitals, co-founding Albuquerque’s Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, and receiving the NM Psychological Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Ann became a registered nurse, caring for trauma and psychiatric patients before teaching 26 years at TVI, where she rose to interim dean of Health Occupations.
Their children—Peter ’90, Brian ’90, and Beth ’94—are proud Sartans. Beth, a current Pius parent, excelled in academics,

athletics, and service, earning Blue Ribbon Student of the Year, making the Homecoming Court, and playing volleyball for four years. She went on to earn BBA and MBA degrees, build a thriving career in human resources and technology, and now serves as Vice President at Cambia Health Solutions, leading operations for a team of 800. Beth and her husband, Keith, are proud parents of sons Hayden ‘25 and Carson ‘27, and have invested their time in scouting, youth sports, and philanthropy.
“Seeing your contributions come to life—the new chapel, the STREAM program—it’s incredibly rewarding,” Beth added.
For the Sims and Tate families, giving back to Pius is a legacy of love, faith, and community that

Student Spotlight
Prestin Day ’26
From the moment Prestin Day ’26 stepped onto the St. Pius X campus, he wasn’t just looking for a high school experience—he was determined to shape it, leaving a legacy of grit, faith, and joyful leadership.
Prestin chose St. Pius X for its academics, athletics, and Catholic culture, and quickly made his mark on the football and track teams. He also stepped into leadership as a school ambassador, proudly welcoming future Sartans and their families. In the classroom, his curiosity and determination stood out, with Mr. Ball’s Chemistry class proving to be his toughest challenge. “It was difficult,” Prestin admits, “but it taught me discipline.”
That discipline carried him through his greatest test: a severe back injury that has kept him out of football for the past two years. Recovery has been long and frustrating, but it also deepened his faith. “I became more faithful in my prayer and learned to trust God’s plan better than I ever have,” he shares.
The injury has been a test of patience for someone who admits it’s not his strong suit. “My Catholic education has given me peace in my actions and my words,” Day shares.
Now, as a senior, Prestin looks ahead with confidence. He plans to study business in college, with dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. His advice to freshmen: “Don’t be embarrassed of yourself—be confident in you.”

It made me think about how I could give back to my own community in the same way, especially because the older generations have given mine so much.”

Student Spotlight Sabine CorreaBruzzese ’26
When Sabine Correa-Bruzzese ’26 thinks about being a Sartan, one word rises to the top: kindness. It’s a value she carries into every classroom, friendship, and leadership role—and into a project showing how far kindness can go when paired with action.
As a Junior, Sabine watched a video about Florida students helping nursing home residents with their phones and technology. “It made me think about how I could give back to my own community in the same way, especially because the older generations have given mine so much,” she explains.
With the support of Ms. Dawn C’deBaca and the National Honor Society, Sabine rallied her classmates, Audrey, Miranda, Manuel, and Ella, and spoke to the congregation at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church about the group’s mission: to offer helpful tips for spotting and avoiding phonerelated scams. After the Palm Sunday Mass, the students welcomed parishioners one by one and handed out bilingual flyers with helpful information.
“Many people came up to us with questions which we tried our best to answer,” Sabine recalls. “Overall, the day was a huge success. We helped many people and educated them on scam prevention.”
This kind of initiative reflects what Sabine has been learning all along at SPX: that leadership and faith mean meeting people where they are, with humility and care.
Guided by the example of her parents, her role models of kindness, empathy, humor, and intelligence, Sabine is already looking toward a future that blends education, service, and a global perspective.

Teacher Spotlight
Melinda Mader ‘98
As an alumna, a parent, and now as a teacher shaping the next generation, Melinda Mader ‘98 says growing up surrounded by her mother’s lesson plans and books has always made the classroom feel like home.
After earning a degree in journalism, Mader realized her heart wasn’t in the newsroom—it belonged in the classroom. She returned to school to earn her teaching degree, and for more than two decades, she has dedicated herself to parochial education.
Today, as a middle school English teacher at her alma mater, she knows she’s exactly where she is meant to be. “I found a welcoming and loving community here at St. Pius X,” she says. “I love that I can discuss religion with my students and help them make real-world connections to their faith.”
For Melinda, the magic of teaching happens in those moments when her students’ excitement matches her own. “When a class is just as engaged as I am about the material, their energy fuels my passion,” she explains. “I always tell them, ‘Never stop looking for what lights you up’.”
Faith is at the core of her teaching, shaping the conversations Melinda has with her students. She thrives on those moments when her students soar — when a novel sparks curiosity or a discussion draws connections between literature and faith.

Operational Vitality
Annual Fund
As vast as our spectacular campus is, so are the opportunities to explore, lead, grow, innovate, and serve.
St. Pius X is blessed with a community deeply committed to making the Sartan experience exceptional. Our families, alumni, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends support the school generously—both financially and through gifts of time as volunteers, mentors, and trusted advisors. Every contribution strengthens the life of our school.
Participation in the 2024–2025 Annual Fund exceeded all expectations, helping to close the 30% gap between tuition
and the true cost of a St. Pius X education. Annual gifts are essential to building on our excellence in academics, arts, athletics, faith formation, and student life.
Thank you, St. Pius X community. Because of you, our students are thriving today, and our alumni are living productive lives. With your continued partnership, it is my belief that our best days are still ahead.
With gratitude,
Julie Cook V.P. of Institutional Advancement

Cynthia and Manuel ‘65 Chavez
Alumni Plaza

On March 28, 2025, the St. Pius X community came together on the bluff overlooking the Sandia Mountains to celebrate the dedication of the Cynthia and Manuel ’65 Chavez Alumni Plaza. This beautiful new space offers two acres for gathering, recreation, and spaces for reflection. Students now enjoy a large grassy area with a basketball court, picnic benches complete with outdoor
seating for meals, providing opportunities for connection, and walking trails surrounded by vibrant xeric landscapes.
Following the ceremony, guests searched for their engraved commemorative bricks that encircle a twelve-foot-tall custom designed metal “X” sculpture, a bold centerpiece honoring the enduring bond between our alumni and their alma mater.

We gratefully acknowledge the major contributors to this project.

A note from Mike Deely, Head of School and Robert Robeda, SPX, Inc. Board Finance Committee Chair
This year’s deficit reflects strategic investments—not setbacks. By addressing long-deferred maintenance and supporting families through financial aid, we are protecting our mission and preparing St. Pius X for long-term stability. When we purchased the school in 2022, we assessed the property and determined that a significant financial investment was needed to modernize our buildings and grounds to better serve all of our students. The $1.4 million operational deficit for 2024–2025 reflects intentional investments to strengthen our school’s future. The largest factor is $2.3 million in deferred maintenance addressed over the past three years, representing long overdue improvements that were necessary to ensure the safety, functionality, and beauty of our campus. At the same time, we expanded student financial aid, ensuring that more families can access the value of a Catholic education, regardless of financial circumstances.
We sustained our school this year with reserve funds and through the incomparable generosity of our donors. Philanthropic contributions continue to serve as an essential factor in the school’s vitality and longevity.
Going forward, we are looking to both our Annual Fund and Capital Campaign to help rebuild reserves depleted by necessary deferred maintenance, while also preparing for future investments. At the same time, we will continue to work closely with the SPX Foundation as they manage and grow our endowment to ensure long-term stability. By expanding athletic facilities, retaining and supporting talented faculty and staff, and broadening academic opportunities, we anticipate continued enrollment growth. With the commitment of our families and alumni, we are confident in our ability to fulfill our promise of delivering an outstanding Catholic, college-prep education at an affordable price.

sustainability and responsible stewardship of donor contributions. We are proud to have provided $144,662 in endowment support to help enhance academic programs, student experiences, and student financial aid.

Dear Friends of St. Pius X,
It is with deep gratitude and renewed purpose that I share this year’s update from the St. Pius X Foundation.
Guided by our mission—to raise funds to assist in meeting the current and future financial needs of St. Pius X School, to unite the Catholic and Albuquerque communities in support of the school, and to cultivate and protect the interests of our donors—we have made meaningful strides in service to our beloved school.
This year, we continued our commitment to prudent management of the Foundation’s endowment, ensuring long-term
In a spirit of partnership and progress, the Foundation extended a $500,000 loan to the school to accelerate critical facilities upgrades, allowing improvements to be made more swiftly and efficiently. We also celebrated the successful execution of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Foundation and the St. Pius X Board of Trustees—an important step in strengthening collaboration and transparency.
We launched the Caritas Society, a new donor recognition program that honors those whose generosity reflects the heart of our mission. This initiative has already begun to foster deeper connections with our supporters and celebrate the impact of their giving.
One of the year’s highlights was the re-launch of our biennial gala at Sandia

Resort & Casino, which brought together alumni, families, and community leaders in a joyful celebration of Catholic education. The event exceeded expectations and reaffirmed the strength of our St. Pius X community.
As ambassadors for St. Pius X School, we remain committed to building bridges between the school and the broader Catholic and Albuquerque communities. Your continued support allows us to fulfill our mission and ensure that future generations of students receive the faithfilled, academically excellent education that defines St. Pius X.
Thank you for walking alongside us in this important work. May God bless you and your families for your generosity, your prayers, and your belief in the transformative power of Catholic education.
With gratitude,

Endowments at St. Pius X
An endowment is a powerful way to make a lasting impact on the future of St. Pius X School. Endowment gifts are invested, and a portion of the earnings—up to 4% annually—are used to support the school, while the principal remains intact to provide funding in perpetuity.

Your St. Pius X Legacy
I have often thought of the sacrifices my teachers made to be mentors to us and to provide us with that compass. Miss French, Msgr. Eggert, Sr. Benedict, Sr. Christine, Sr. Ethna (I can still recite Portia's “The quality of mercy” speech from The Merchant of Venice!), Sr. Ann Janet, Sr. Benedicta and many others. I hope and believe St. Pius imbued my education and my career with moral conscience and a faith that has helped me through life's crises and triumphs. That is the highest purpose of any education, and for that I will always be grateful.”

We Help You Create the Legacy You Wish to Leave.
You’ve secured your family’s future. Now, ensure the values you cherished at St. Pius X for generations to come. The Sarto Legacy Society was created to honor alumni and friends who have provisions in their estate plans to benefit St. Pius X School. Becoming a member is simple. Just let us know that St. Pius X is part of your estate plans. You may choose to disclose the amount or keep it private, be recognized during your lifetime or remain anonymous, and specify exactly how you would like your gift to be directed through a gift to the endowment for a special purpose— ensuring your wishes are carried out
just as you envision—or to the Annual Fund for current year use.
Additionally, individuals aged 70½ or older can make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from their IRA directly to St. Pius X School, allowing the gift to be made tax-free. Most charitable estate gifts are nonbinding, meaning you may revise or update your plans at any time.

Campaigns & Community
Throughout the year, the St. Pius X Advancement Office engages our community through unique giving events and opportunities that inspire generosity, strengthen relationships, and make a lasting impact on our students. Each initiative offers donors a chance to participate in a way that speaks to their connection with SPX — whether through shared experiences or special campaigns. Together, these efforts form a vibrant and essential part of the Annual Fund’s success.
Grandparents Day
On Sept. 13, 2024, more than 600 grandparents filled the SPX campus with warmth, energy, and love for their Sartans. This cherished tradition annually includes classroom visits, campus tours, photo opportunities, a courtyard reception, and a special Mass honoring the role grandparents play in the faith, values, and education of their grandchildren. Their generosity, both in presence and in giving, contributed significantly to the Annual Fund and reminded us that family support is at the heart of our mission.
Giving Tuesday
On Dec. 3, 2024, SPX joined this global day of giving with our own record-breaking celebration. The campaign, which included a multiday, student-run phonathon, inspired Sartans near and far to make their gift, unlocking challenge matches and fueling friendly competition between classes and groups. The result was the largest single-day total in school history for Giving Tuesday — an outpouring of support that propelled our mid-year momentum forward.
The 2024 Giving Tuesday campaign raised $95,907 from 231 donors, representing an increase over our 2023 results.
Spring Giving Days
From April 8 to April 10, 2025, our SPX Spring Giving Days brought three days of spirited generosity and community pride. With themed challenges, social media engagement, and personal outreach, this year’s Spring Giving Days raised $56,285, and bumped our donor count from 70 in 2024 to 103 in 2025. Energized students, staff, alumni, and families alike proved that when the SPX community rallies together, remarkable results follow.
Take A Seat in History
Our “Take A Seat in History” campaign rolled out in March 2025, giving donors the opportunity to customize and sponsor a theater seat in our St. Cecilia Hall Performing Arts Center — a gift that leaves a visible, lasting mark in one of SPX’s most beloved gathering spaces. This ongoing initiative remains vital to the renovation of the buildings we rely on most. Learn more at www.SaintPiusX.com/TakeASeat.
