HABITAT : STUDENT’S ACCOMMODATION Diverging from Hermetic/isolated way of life and integrating wide community. Significant loss of community life due to “barrack like” designs - decreases the creative as well as learning ability of the persons Not detaching from the society, instead of becoming an Island Designed as a “REFERENCE PROJECT” for student’s accommodation in Nepal My main approach is to create a modular design, which helps in recreating the designs in different places according to the need. Using concepts of Modularity, spatial layers and interconnectivity to flourish the design ideas and principals

STUDENT HUB AS AN EXTENSION OF STUDENT LIFE

Spaces which can be utilized by the students with sharing with connunity such as: • Shared working spaces • Sports, entertainment and shopping spaces, library, gym • Spaces for start-ups and innovation • Foster the learning beyond the room

SITE ANALYSIS

WHY THIS SITE? Lalitpur consists of major academic institutions such asPulchowk engineering college, Lalitpur. It has good access to the road and lies at the heart of the valley

APPROACH 1: MODULARITY Because of the modularity of the blocks they can be arranged within a grid in different configuration and stack up vertically resulting in varied form of outcomes

APPROACH2: SPATIAL LAYERS This spatial analysis offers a better a better understanding of the spatial potential possibilities to develop ideal student housing. Creates Social/ economic sustainability Zoning according to the spatial layers to form coherent spaces that can integrate students in the community

SITE, COMMUNITY AND PLANNING: The site is surrounded by a new expanding community of Bhaisepati, Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Designed in an area of about 23,070 sq.m., the site is facilitated by road network on its north, south and east side. The school provides education for classes up to 10 and consists of two sections each [capacity= 30 per classes]. Besides the major educational houses the site needed to serve entertainment and overall growth of children, hence is facilitated with Auditorium [capacity= 600], Administration block, Multipurpose hall, Swimming pool, Dining/ cafeteria block [capacity= 168], Library and other supporting facilities.

Colourful city of Lalitpur, where the site is located. Hence use of primary colours to provide visual hierarchy.

Two Axis are drawn through the north- south and east-west direction. As the main road is on East of the site it is selected as the main entrance. In southern area of site residential areas are located hence southern spaces are allocated for the communal spaces such as auditorium, parking and playground. Library is located at the focal point of the N-S axis, two entrances are at East and South point of the axis. Classrooms, courtyards, canteen and admin block are placed accordind to the functional requirements.

Design is done across various courtyards diving seperate spaces for different functions and group of people. Wind and sun path direction are taken into account creating ideal flow for heat, light and ventilation.

CONNECTIVITY Connectivity and interconnectivity throughout the school.

FOODHIVE: CAMPUS CAFETERIA DESIGN As my project concept is creating a common space for students to gather, eat, enjoy and socalize hence naming it food hive using a hexagonal honeycomb shape.

Honeycomb: Derives from bees ,an organically found shape used to make and store their food honey. Identically proportional hexagonal modules cab be joined together by any or all of their sides to create a cluster of connected modules.

SITE CONSTRAINTS

Site has 6 trees to preserve it planning is done to accordingly without distrubing them.

Site is elongated L-shaped and has access on two sides. Hence, the central space is utilized for service and back of the house space like kitchen and store with dining space on outer sides.
