Middle School CROSS Mission Trip Seventeen middle school students and five adults participated in the CROSS program at Myers Park Presbyterian Church on November 7-9. During our weekend, we worked at four different agencies in Charlotte, breaking down our boundaries and stereotypes. Our group split into two groups, each serving at two locations. We served at Urban Ministry and participated in a simulation on what the typical homeless person might go through in attempting to apply for a job, including walking around downtown searching for a free computer on which to apply for the job. We also traveled to Samaritan’s House and played games and enjoyed fellowship with patients recovering from major surgery. We also spent time with the residents of the Haven at Highland Creek, which is an assisted living facility for Alzheimer’s and dementia clients. One group played games with clients of the Men’s Shelter downtown, engaging the men in a fun atmosphere.
Registration for Major Trips and Retreats It is time to register for the major trips and retreats! The deadlines to register are as follows: High School Ski Retreat – December 7 Middle School The Great Escape – December 15 High School Montreat Youth Conference – January 4 High School Washington, DC Mission Trip – April 1 (or until all spaces are filled; space is limited) Middle School Charlotte Mission Trip – May 1 Please see Adrian for more information on any of the upcoming trips or retreats and be sure to register as soon as possible, as most have limited amount of space.
High School Rake and Run The High School Youth Ministry went to two church members’ homes to assist with yard work. Sixteen high school youth served at two homes, raking, cutting, shearing, pruning, and assisting in any capacity that was needed. They also shared desserts and heard life stories, all the while serving in the name of Christ!
High School Corn Maze High School students traveled to Monroe after the Second Saturday Service on November 8 to participate in the corn maze and enjoy a night of fellowship with each other. Thank you to the adult advisors who took the time to go with them on the cold night! Everyone enjoyed wandering the maze and the bonfire at the end!
High School Sunday Night Fellowship The High School youth had an amazing month of Sunday Night activities, including a bonfire and cemetery history with David Blackley, rake and run at church members’ homes, and Turkey Bingo at Plantation Estates. Next month, we will have a cookie baking contest (and then give the cookies away) and our annual Progressive Dinner. Don’t miss out!
Middle School Sunday Night Fellowship The Middle School Youth Fellowship enjoyed a full month of Sunday Night activities. They began the month by making 867 sandwiches for Urban Ministry, took a week off after the CROSS mission trip, enjoyed their annual Fast Food Progressive Dinner, played broom ball after making their own pizzas, and purchased gifts for children from the Angel Tree. Our Middle School students enjoy being together and serving others! In December, we will enjoy a night of fellowship and our annual Christmas Party. Come be a part!
