Greetings to team SARCAN across Saskatchewan!

Summer is nearing an end and what a nice one we have had. We had another great year last year recycling and diverting 411 million containers from Saskatchewan landfills. Our return rates remain above 80% and depots served over 1,700,000 customers last year! Thank you to all of our teams at the depots and the plants for their hard work and dedication.

Salvage markets for the material we recycle have improved and prices for plastics have started to recover and improve as oil prices begin to climb. Markets for aluminum have 4 SARCAN Spirit

remained strong and we continue to produce high quality salvage materials from our operations.

I am pleased to report that we renewed our operating contract with SARC Members that operate SARCAN depots in March. Our partnership with SARC Members across the province has been a cornerstone of the SARCAN Recycling success story since we started in 1988.

We have two new depot locations in Tisdale and Prince Albert. Both Tisdale and the Prince Albert Express depots moved to new facilities in the last few months. We have had the grand opening in Tisdale already and Prince Albert Express will be this fall. Customer

feedback has been very positive regarding the new locations. Thanks to the staff at these depots for their extra work during the moves.

Congratulations to all of the Secret Shopper award recipients from last year. Please continue to keep them clean and ensure your customer service and accuracy remain excellent.

I would like to take time to recognize, and thank, the whole team across the province for what we accomplished this spring. The introduction of dairy containers into the system along with the changes in deposits was the largest change we have ever undertaken at SARCAN. Timing was tight but the results have been amazing. We accomplished this transition in a true team approach! Everyone pitched in and helped each other out. Thank you all for your efforts. You will be pleased

to know that dairy containers returns have been increasing monthly and in June, we took in over 1.5 million dairy containers. This was approximately 3.85% of our total containers recycled for the month.

In closing, I am pleased to report that almost the entire SARCAN network now has point of sale and Drop & Go. Big thanks to everyone who has been involved as we rolled out this massive project across the province over the last four years. It is great to see Drop & Go returns climbing every month.

What’s New at SARCA Drop and Go Promotions We are close to having the new Drop & Go system installed at all 72 SARCAN depots. It’s another way that we can provide great customer service to people who don’t want to wait in line to get their deposit refunds back, or people who do not currently go to SARCAN. Now that the majority of our systems are up and running, we have launched some promotions to make Saskatchewan aware of Drop & Go. We are airing a television commercial, some radio promotions, and doing direct mail-outs. The message is designed to resonate with those current and potential customers who do not like waiting in line.

To increase usage of Drop & Go, we have attended various depots, festivals, and events throughout the summer to continue introducing Drop & Go, and to give customers a virtual walkthrough of the system. Our booth has appeared at many large festivals across Saskatchewan, including the Saskatoon Fringe Festival, Regina Folk Festival, and the Windscape Kite Festival in Swift Current. We’ve also done in-depot promotions in communities like Yorkton and Weyburn.

As these promotions continue throughout the rest of the year, we’re tracking the usage of the system and our overall return rate. We hope that these promotions will lead to new customers, higher return rates, shorter wait times, and happier customers.

AN Recycling in 2017?

Milk Container Recycling On April 1, 2017, the Ministry of Environment announced that fluid dairy containers were being introduced as part of the deposit beverage container system. This was a big shock to everyone!

We were not anticipating this, as we had just spent the previous year winding down the Unified Dairy Recycling Program (UDRS), and the depots did not accept milk containers at all from July 1, 2016 through to April 1, 2017.

In addition to this announcement, government also took the opportunity to increase deposits on certain containers.

The depots and plants have done a tremendous job of dealing with these changes. It was not an easy feat to change the way milk containers are recycled twice in one year, but we did it! And now, thanks to our efforts, the people of Saskatchewan can once again recycle milk containers at SARCAN. But this time, they get their money back! And we are taking new containers, like cream and drinkable yogurt, providing more opportunities to recycle at SARCAN. We are continuing to work on informing the public about these changes. This fall, there will be an advertising campaign geared towards our customers, that will let them know about all of these changes that have been happening across our system. Thank you for continuing to provide excellent customer service as we move through this transition.

Read all about the Central Region’s Manager, and SARCAN’s unofficial mascot, the one and only Kevin Kaschl The Central Region consists of nine extra large depots in Saskatoon and Regina, an Audit Centre in Saskatoon and a medium depot in Strasbourg. The Strasbourg depot is a relatively new depot. The improvement over the old depot is quite impressive and well deserved. Strasbourg received the new POS system in mid July this year and depot supervisor Wanda has made the Secure Retail staff giggle with some of her questions!

With the increase in deposits and the addition of the milk containers, I don’t have to tell anyone how busy the summer was. The extra-large depots average between 500 – 700 thousand containers a week during this time and had as many as 700 customers a day. The fall is bottle drive season, so even though the customers slow down a bit, the containers do not! Things really don’t slow down for them until November when the cold weather hits.

The Fleury depot in Regina handles the containers from Craven’s Country Thunder music festival. They arrive in semi trailers!! This year, the order was about $20,000. The Rochdale depot in Regina managed to hit the 5% customer mark for Drop & Go so they received the cool new Drop & Go hoodies. Congrats to Rochdale.

Tisdale Celebrates Brand New Depot

Depot News offices and lots of room to do loading and shipping. There’s even room for newer crushing equipment and electric forklifts thanks to all that extra space.

The Tisdale depot, operated

by SARC Member Handiworks of Nipawin, moved to a brand new building this spring. The move-in date was April 3rd, 2017, and an official grand opening celebration was held on June 2nd, 2017. In attendance was local MLA Fred Bradshaw, representatives from Tisdale’s town council, Handi-works Executive Director, Hugh MacDonald and Board President Kimberley Wood, as well as SARC’s Executive Director, Amy McNeil, and SARCAN Recycling’s Director of Operations, Kevin Acton.

The local media was in attendance, as well as the radio station and newspaper from the neighbouring community of Melfort. It was a beautiful day to have a

grand opening! The sun was shining and it was really warm outside.

The program included greetings from MLA Bradshaw, town councillor Brendan Samida, Handiworks Board President Kimberley Wood, and Amy McNeil. After the speeches, the ribbon was cut and everyone posed for photos.

Joanne and the depot staff proceeded to take guests on tours of the new building and serve cake and coffee.

The depot’s location is extremely visible. It’s in the newly developed Airport Industrial Area in Tisdale. If you come in town on Highway 3 from Melfort, the new SARCAN depot is the first thing you see coming into town from the highway! It’s hard to miss the big, bright building as you are coming into town.

The new depot has a lot of features. There’s a big parking lot with lots of room for customers and the customer area inside is much bigger now too.

Melville Becomes Large Depot This year, the Melville depot went from a Medium-sized depot to a Large one. What better way to celebrate than adding more space for all those new customers 12 SARCAN Spirit

Here in Melville, we’ve recently experienced some major changes to our depot to recognize our efforts of maintaining a quota of three million containers for two years in a row. We have now achieved the status of being in the large depot category!

With the new title of large depot, we needed a larger space to work in with the increased amount of containers being received on a daily basis.

So, on Thursday April 27th, two days before a Boy Scout bottle drive, demolition began. Walls were being knocked out, drywall dust was flying everywhere, and there was little space to work in due to the vast amount of space the bottle drive took up in our medium depot. Our staff still pulled through to ensure customers received their deposits throughout the mayhem.

great tunes, conversations, and laughs; he is always a blast and always welcome here at our depot.

The renovations took about six weeks to complete; where the bottle drive took only two days. We had walls knocked out to open up the receiving area, the counters moved back with an additional sorting chute to make room for a higher volume of customers and their containers, and a new roomier office space.

We are very pleased with the renovations and how the big picture came together. We have also received lovely feedback from local customers too.

“It’s so much bigger in here!”, and, “It looks really good! There’s so much more room!”

We also had our mop sink relocated and transformed, our MMF (crusher) moved ahead, all topped off with a fresh coat of paint.

We had the excellent expertise of Gilbert giving us a hand at moving our MMF and counters. We couldn’t be more pleased with his work; and his visit.

All the staff has adjusted quite well to the drastic changes. Through the loud sounds of jackhammers, drills, and saws, we pulled through this journey together and we couldn’t be more pleased with the result. There is still some work to be done, but maybe next year.

Heather and Tango

On May 19-21, 2017, Heather Fitzsimmons, an employee from the Saskatoon North depot, and her dog, Tango, participated in the Regional Agility Trials in Prince Albert. Tango and Heather had worked hard on their training and it paid off. The pair won ribbons for the Regional Championship Event Qualifier, first place in Tango’s class and a trophy for 2017 winner 6” class.

All of this means that Heather and Tango qualified for Nationals!

They took a trip to Langley, B.C., in August. Great work, Heather and Tango! This is an awesome achievement and we are all proud of you at the North depot. We look forward to seeing Tango on his visits to the depot and we support both Heather and Tango on their journey to Nationals.

Chelsea’s Big Day

On May 27, 2017, Chelsea Stradeski of the Regina processing plant married her best friend, Byron Miller.

May 27 was also Byron’s birthday, so they had two celebrations in one. The ceremony started at noon, and was a small wedding in her parent’s backyard, which was perfect for them. Afterwards, they went to the Cathedral Arts Festival for a bit of shopping then to Wascana Park for pictures. For the evening party, they went out to Uhls Bay where they did some hula hooping and fire dancing.

Depot News North Battleford SARCAN Honoured with Award We are so very proud of the North Battleford SARCAN depot for receiving an award from the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan - North Battleford Branch for being a Supportive Employer. We are so impressed with Jeff and the team for this incredible honour for going above and beyond to accomodate employees. SARCAN has always prided itself on being an inclusive and accomodating workplace, but its even more exciting when a depot is recognized for its efforts. Thank you to the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan - North Battleford Branch for this recognition. It is well-deserved, and much appreciated!

Eyes on the Prize 16 SARCAN Spirit

Special O Takes SARCAN Staff to Austria On March 12, 2017, Zane Lauritsen, of the Regina Processing Plant, left Regina as a member of the Team Canada West Floor Hockey team and travelled to Graz, Austria to compete in the Special Olympic World Winter Games.

Zane’s floor hockey team consisted of players from Regina, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg. Zane and his teammates qualified to go by winning a gold medal in the Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland in 2016.

In Graz, Canada West won a

silver medal in Division two, while the South Africa team won gold.

There were 36 countries represented in floor hockey.

In round robin and medal competitions, Zane’s team lost only one game!

We kept tabs on Zane’s games at the plant each morning as we were all very interested in the outcomes.

Zane informed us that Team Canada consisted of 139 athletes and all had a wonderful time. Austria was very hospitable and did a great job hosting the world games. From the dazzling

opening ceremony to the closing speech by Arnold Schwarzenegger, it was an eye opening and thrilling experience for Zane and his parents. Canada can be proud of their Special Olympians! Arnold summed it up best by saying, “I’ve always said – I’m here to pump you up, but let me tell you, all of you Special Olympians, it’s you who pumps me up!”

Then, this summer, Zane and fellow Regina processing employee Dwight Rieger participated in the Special Olympic Summer Games held in Moose Jaw on June 17 and 18. They were part of the Regina Raiders soccer team, and they won the gold medal! They are now waiting to go to Nationals next year to compete against the other provincial champions from across Canada.

Zane was also chosen as Male Athlete of the Year, a very special honor.

Congratulations Zane and Dwight, from your fellow coworkers, and all of us here at SARCAN, we are all so very proud of you.

A Busy Summer in Saskatoon Hello from Saskatoon Processing, How is everyone doing out there?

At the Saskatoon Processing plant, we have been plugging along unloading trailers. Now that milk is on deposit, it has been noticeably busier with trailer switching. We are ready for the challenge and the Hornoi drivers are looking forward to the added miles.

Mike Siwy and Derrick Palmer were playing slow pitch in Moose Jaw with Special Olympics and their team took the gold medals. So a big congratulations to them and their team. Howard Burlock, our Central Stores person, decided it was time to retire and spend some time fishing and spend more quality time with his grandkids. Howard just got his 20-year service award last fall. We wish him well and expect a supply of fish occasionally!

We are planning to have a day in the park BBQ with our staff soon, so watch for pictures!

For now, just keep those trailers coming in. A couple reminders for you trailer loaders. Please make sure there is lots of shrinkwrap on your electronic pallets, and make sure to put the load locks up against the totes that might fall.

Processing Funnies Did you say hello!

A wife comes home late one night and quietly opens the door to her bedroom. From under the blanket, she sees four legs instead of just her husband’s two. She reaches for a baseball bat and starts hitting the blanket as hard as she can. Once she’s done, she goes to the kitchen to have a drink. As she enters, she sees her husband there, reading a magazine. He says, “Hi darling, your parents have come to visit us, so I let them stay in our bedroom. Did you say hello?”

New Conveyors in Regina Good Day SARCAN Nation!!

Summer is upon us and we are all extremely busy – just the way we like it. Well, what has been happening since the last update?

Prep work for our new in-floor conveyor system began in early February – our incline conveyor to sort belt was relocated and our plastic floor belt was shortened. A contractor was hired to dig a big hole in the back of the plant and build an in-floor pit to house our new conveyor system. A big thank you to the entire processing team for working through another construction zone safely and efficiently.

Two new conveyors were delivered in May and the install began. The plant was shut down periodically to help with the install. With the help of a number of SARCAN staff, the two new conveyors were installed and are working well. Benefits of the conveyors were noticed immediately.

A big thank you to Gilbert, Mio, Brian, and Carl for coming in over the weekend to help get the project completed ahead of schedule.

In the first three months (April – June), production in the south is up 2% in pounds processed and we have completed 41 more depot trailer switches compared to last year at this time. Milk containers have really added to our numbers. This year is really looking to be a banner year in container returns.

Rody is a cashier, joining the team from West Central Abilities. He moved to Canada from the Phillipines six years ago, and plans to return this fall for a visit. Welcome, Rody!

Austin Baumann and Kaelan Liebrecht completed successful work placements and have transitioned into casual employees. Austin has completed the on-line forklift training and is now completing his practical portion of the course. Zachary Marr and Blaise Douglass are high school students who worked for the summer before returning to school. 25 Acts of Conservation Program Wraps Up SARCAN Recycling has helped sponsor the Saskatchewan Environmental Society’s 25 Acts of Conservation program over the last four years. In that time, we saw students across the province work with their schools to become more environmentally conscious. Students from all over the province, in different sizes of communities and schools, worked hard to create projects that had tangible results. Not only were students learning about the importance of environmental protection and preservation, but they were also learning how to teach each other, and become environmental leaders in their schools, their homes and in their communities.

At Churchill School in La Ronge, year after year, the students created the most unbelievable, awe-inspiring projects. Not only were they about protecting our environment and making the world a greener place, but they were also about leadership. The students challenged themselves to not only involve their own school, but to create meaningful impact to students in all of northern Saskatchewan.

Churchill hosted an eco-conference where students from Sandy Bay, La Loche and Pinehouse came to La Ronge to learn how to be more environmentally conscious.

All four years of 25 Acts of Conservation saw entries from Mr. Norman’s Grade 8 class at Argyle School in Regina. In 2015, the students prepared a bingo-style game where Argyle students could do one of the 25 Acts and get a square on their bingo card. When a student would tweet out a picture with the hashtag #25 Acts, they would receive an entry into a prize draw. In 2016, students encouraged family and friends from across the globe to participate. Every time a family or friend of a student did an act of conservation, the act went on the map. The goal was to spread the message as “far as the moon and back,” with each kilometre the message spread being accounted for. In total, the students reached 31 countries across the globe, going way beyond the moon.

Caswell School in Saskatoon’s 2017 entry was about involving the whole school. Students created a slogan for their campaign: It’s Cool to be an Eco-School! The students informed their peers about the simple changes they could make like recycling more and powering down. They hosted an “Eco Week”, where students could learn more about things like composting, using natural light, reducing and reusing. At the final assembly, the class had the whole school cheering.

The schools that received prizes over the years even did environmental projects with their prize dollars like installing water-bottle filling stations to waste less bottle water, or going on camping trips. Thank you to the Saskatchewan Environmental Society for tirelessly running this program for the last four years. Thank you also to fellow sponsors The Co-operators, SaskEnergy and the Saskatchewan Science Centre. The projects developed out of the 25 Acts of Conservation will create a lasting impact for many years to come. To see more of the projects, visit 25acts.ca.

Leadership Training and Secret Shopper Awards Our annual leadership training happened this past May in Saskatoon and Regina. These training sessions give us an opportunity to come together, learn about new and evolving trends, enhance our supervisory skills, and share experiences across the province. This year’s session focused on the areas of recruitment and retention, led by SARC’s Human Relations Consultant, Leanne Zacharias.

Attendees learned about hiring and keeping team members at our depots and plants.

Our Leadership Training is also our time to give out the annual secret shopper awards. This year we expanded our awards program to include overall winners by depot size (Depot of the Year) and the depots that improved their performance the most year-over-year (Most Improved). Here are the secret shopper winners for 2017:

Day one focused on recruitment and included a walkthrough of the entire hiring process, discovery of hiring best practices, and a test drive of our new job interview guide. Day two focused on retention, which covered the topics of employee turnover, the orientation and onboarding process for new hires, and ways we can keep new hires engaged.Throughout these sessions we picked up many useful tips from our Human Relations expert, asked a lot of questions, and shared a lot of stories.

Health and Safety

Pausing for Safety

I always like to remind remind people to “pause for safety” when doing tasks. Even if it is something that seems part of the same tasks you do every day, but if even one thing changes, and we are not mindful of what we (or others) are doing, it could be harmful.

Here are some examples of how you can “pause for safety” before starting a new task: • Look around you for hazards (especially to see if anything has moved since you last did this task) • Make sure there are no obstacles in the way • Check to make sure you are wearing the proper PPE, and that the PPE is in good condition • Be aware of your surroundings (where are your coworkers? the forklift?)

• Ask yourself “have I been trained to perform this task”?

If you notice a hazard during your “pause for safety”, and you are not sure how to deal with it, talk to your supervisor. Be aware and take care!

Moosomin was founded in 1882, and fully settled by 1887 with stores and hotels.

It’s one of the oldest communities in all of Saskatchewan.

The town was named after Chief Moosomin, from Cree Moosomin First Nation, who made history when he signed Treaty 6 in North Battleford in 1880.

Moosomin is home to Saskatchewan’s longest running weekly newspaper, The Moosomin WorldSpectator, which started in 1884!

Legendary Canadian rockers, The Guess Who, mention Moosomin as one of the towns in the classic song “Runnin’ back to Saskatoon.”

Moosomin SARCAN had three milestone months in 2016-2017. In August, June and November we beat our previous records for containers recycled by month!

Pipestone Kin-Ability Centre created a web page with the local SARCAN information on it and links to SARCAN’s webpage and Drop & Go. Feel free to check it out at http:// pipestonekinability.ca/.

We have seen many changes in our staff in the past year. We are wishing a speedy recovery to Sandra Youngblut who has been away since February. We welcomed new staff; Primo Oroyo, Zhane Acuna, Justin Bydick, and Roanne Donald. With all of the changes and new faces, we feel we are building a strong team with a focus on core training.

The Town of Moosomin celebrated Canada’s 150 with a parade. SARCAN worked with Pipestone Kin-Ability Centre to create a float with an “Explore Canada” theme. It was a great day with a wonderful turn out.

We are currently working on a partnership with Pipestone Kin-Ability Centre, the Moosomin Kinsmen and Kinettes. Through fundraising efforts, we are hoping to assist with the purchase of a wheelchairaccessible swing for Bradley Park in Moosomin.

This year we also celebrated two recognition milestone with Chris Frape reaching 25 years and Sandra Youngblut reaching 5 years. These individuals are positive, hard working and enthusiastic.

They are valued members of our team and we look forward to working with them for years to come.

Depot Highlights The Heart of Good Spirit Country

Canora SARCAN

Quick Facts Population: 2,219 Containers returned last year: 1,877,341

Canora, located in eastern Saskatchewan at the junction of highways 5 and 9, is called ”The Heart of Good Spirit Country”, because there are lots of lakes nearby, including Chrystal Lake and Duck Mountain Provincial Park, in western Manitoba.

Canora has three museums, including the CN Station House Museum, the Ukrainian Heritage Museum and Canada’s only Toy and Autograph Museum.

Canora churhces have very interesting designs, including Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which has silver pearshaped onion domes.

The world-famous statue of Lesia, a Ukrainian woman dressed in traditional wares, welcomes travelers to town as they arrive in Canora.

Every July, Canora hosts a summer festival that includes things like pool activities, events for kids, golf and an evening garden tour.

Pardon the pun, but I really think that people CAN make a difference when they work at SARCAN, by encouraging more and more people to recycle, which is awesome for the environment.

Lately, I have been thinking about something that I think is very important, and that is the words “I Can’t.” Now, it may look negative, yes, but there is also

something very positive about it. If you look at it closely enough, you will see that the words “I Can” come before “I Can’t”, and I know that is a pretty important and powerful encouragement. Therefore, the next time you think you “can’t”, take a moment to take a second look, and, if you do, you may make a difference in someone’s life. Maybe even yours. Let us say it together. Depot Highlights Home of Ernie the Turtle

Turtleford SARCAN

Turtleford is a beautiful community in north west Saskatchewan, near the junctions of highways 3, 26 and 303. The Turtle River runs through town, and it is located close to Turtle Lake and Brightsand Lake as well.

Ernie is the world’s largest turtle and is a popular roadside attraction. He welcomes visitors when they come to Turtleford.

A legend of Canadian Folklore, the always mysterious “Turtle Lake Monster” allegedly inhabits the lake and can often be seen or felt by people visiting.

Brightsand Lake, another beautiful recreation site in the Turtleford area, features activities like volleyball, golf and swimming.

The Blueberry Hill golf course is located near Turtleford, in the neighbouring community of Livelong, and features eighteen holes.

Community Spirit in Turtleford Chris and the crew in Turtleford have been a big part of the Turtleford community for many years Greeting from all the Staff at Turtleford depot!

We have had a very busy year here in Turtleford. We have added three new members to our staff, Connie Muyard, Kim Ernst and Matthew Ernst (Matt just graduated at the end of June). With the new products, we take since April it has resulted in an increase in our containers so the new staff will be put to work.

At Christmas, the SARCAN staff went into the Livelong community and hosted a Pancake Breakfast with Santa. We helped about 40 kids make crafts, decorate cookies, play games and the little ones had fun in the bouncy house. Santa showed up and visited with all the boys and girls.

After sitting on Santa’s knee, they were given candy canes and the SARCAN staff also handed out goodie bags. Fun was had by all.

Shirley Lamoureux received her 5 year recognition certificate this year. We had the privilege of having two work placement students from the Turtleford School from February until the end of June while they learned work skills. Shirley Lamoureux (who worked with them) and myself presented Brayden and Bradley with certificate of achievement awards at the School awards day ceremonies which they were very happy to receive. We also gave their Teacher’s Aide a bouquet of flowers.

Hope to have them both back next year.

We are going to try to have a Staff BBQ to wind down the summer season.

Depot Highlights Proud of its History and Cultural Roots

Ponteix SARCAN

Quick Facts Population: 605 Containers returned last year: 517,271

The town of Ponteix is located in south western Saskatchewan, south of Swift Current, just off the Red Coat Trail (highway 13). It is known for its history and for the discovery of a plesiosaur dinosaur, which was discovered in the early 1990s.

French Roots Past and Present

This Catholic church, built in 1929, is the largest column-free church in Western Canada. It features public archives and an art gallery inside.

In 1995, a replica statue to scale of a plesiosaur dinosaur named Mo, was erected to commemorate finding a plesiosuar near Ponteix. a few years before.

Mark Lamb played for the Calgary Flames and Detroit Red Wings, before joining the Edmonton Oilers in 1987, winning a Stanley Cup with them in 1990.

The history of Ponteix dates back to 1908 when town founder Father Albert-Marie Royer, from the Auvergne area in France, settled a parish.

A Summer of Celebration The people of Ponteix enjoyed celebrating Canada 150 this year, with all kinds of festivites and activities for people of all ages.

The Canada 150 Celebration was held on Saturday, June 24th, 2017 in Ponteix.

There was a “mini” parade on Centre Street in Ponteix at 11:00 am. From 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm there was a BBQ in the Notekeu Park. From 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm there was a bouncy house in the park for free and also the swimming pool was open. From 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm there was a beanbag, washer toss tournament that was also free to register for. At 2:00 pm, there was a piñata in the park for children in grade three or under, and at 4:00 pm there was a piñata for the children in grades four through seven.

There was also horseshoe pit and ladder ball available. The museum was open all day. At 6:45 pm to 7:45 pm there was a supper with pulled pork and salads that was held at the Cultural Centre. At 8:00

pm there was a presentation by Ecole Boreale at the Cultural Centre. Fireworks were held at dusk.

Ponteix boasts a beautiful Catholic Church, which was built in 1929. There is also a Catholic Convent, which was built in 1916.

There are two religious sisters living in the Foyer St. Joseph Nursing Home and eight sisters living in the Convent.

In 1918, the first hospital was built called the Gabriel Hospital, the second hospital was built in 1967. Ponteix has a Catholic population, but there are many Filipino and Mennonites from Mexico who have moved here. Ponteix has a population of 605 people.

Depot Highlights The Heart of Whitmore Park

Grant Road Regina

Quick Facts Population: 216,528 Containers returned last year: 10,415,659

Regina’s Grant Road depot is one of five SARCAN depots in Regina. It is located in Whitmore Park, a beautiful, established neighbourhood in Regina’s south end. It is located close to the University of Regina and to the many shops of Albert Street.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will play at the brand new Mosaic Stadium this season.

The stadium will also be home to major concerts and events.

Whitmore Park is the closest neighbourhood to the University of Regina. Many customers of the Grandt Road depot are university students.

The Saskatchewan Legislative Building, located in Regina, just underwent a major renovation to the building’s dome that took over two years.

The famous Milky Way Ice Cream stand, on Victoria Avenue, has been Regina’s favourite destination for ice cream cones and milkshakes since 1956.

Grant Road’s Busy Summer The Grant Road depot has a lot to celebrate, from employees with milestone years of service, to a brand new baby girl named Autumn!

This year we have had some great things to celebrate with our employees. Elma and Lita are celebrating their five years with SARCAN while Matt is celebrating his 10 years.

Our Assistant Supervisor, Ashley, is currently on maternity leave after delivering a beautiful baby girl named Autumn. preparing for his An aerial Jason vew of is Buffalo Narrows, wedding this year in September. surrounded by beautiful lakes and the boreal forest.

We have been very busy this summer with our customers they have given us such positive feedback with milk deposits and are thoroughly enjoying the new Drop and Go system, they hope it never goes away.

This year our depot teamed up with some Tim Hortons staff and went camping for those of us who could go! This year it was held on the August long weekend.

This past year at Leadership Training our depot won the Cleanliness Award for Extra Large depots. Our staff were so PROUD and OVERJOYED. They take time to always keep our depot clean and their hard work paid off. They are continuously taking pride in their work and it does not go unnoticed.
