Leap Session Descriptions Leap consists of nine sessions that have been designed to meet the changing needs of the non-profit sector. Sessions include:

How Managers Communicate and Lead Strong communication is the basis of any successful leader. Explore a variety of topics that further promote effective workplace communication and assess leadership skills, traits and styles.

Employee/Labour Relations Basics

Delve deep into the employment relationship, management’s right and responsibilities, and the technical elements of the grievance and investigation processes. Applicable to both unionized and nonunionized organizations.

Recruitment and Retention

Attracting and retaining valuable employees can be challenging, but is achievable. This session discusses the employment process, the importance of orientation and onboarding, and provides practical tips on how to engage employees.

Employee Accountability

How well an organization performs is a function of how well its employees perform. Topics covered include: employee accountability, the investigation and discipline processes, and an overview of a performance management program.

Governance

An Executive Director must have a strong understanding and good working relationship with the organization’s Board of Directors. This session provides information on bylaws, policies, key Board roles, and the role an Executive Director plays.

Public and Government Relations

Every organization requires strong community and government partnerships. Gain insight on public relations, various communication methods, as well as how to communicate, build, and maintain relationships with government.

Financial Responsibilities

Strong financial management is crucial for every organization. Attain a solid understanding in a variety of areas related to management’s financial duties, including: budgeting, the audit process, and financial best practices.

Legislation Impacting the Employment Relationship

Managers must have a thorough understanding of the legislation that impacts the workplace. A variety of topics will be discussed, including: the Saskatchewan Employment Act, human rights, return to work programs, and much more.

Fostering an Effective Team

Teamwork leads to successful organizations. Individuals will discuss how to develop, motivate, and lead a productive team, as well as the importance of cultivating the organization’s culture.

Program Registration 2017-2018 Full program registration opens March 27, 2017

Full Program Registration: Learners must pre-register and attend all nine sessions to be considered a Leap Graduate (each is offered in both Saskatoon and Regina). Register for the program by filling out the attached registration form or register online at www.sarclearningcentral.ca.

Leap registration will be open until September 8, 2017.

Individual Session Registration: Learners can also register for individual sessions. Individual registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, provided that the session is not already full.

Individual session registration opens September 1, 2017.

Please note: Space is limited. If a session is full, you will be placed on a waitlist and notified if additional space becomes available.

Registration Fees Full Leap program: • SARC Members $2,700 • Other organizations $2,940 + GST Individual sessions: • SARC Members $325 • Other organizations $355 + GST The registration fee includes the comprehensive Learner Handbook, as well as lunch and refreshments.

Graduation Information

To be a successful Leap Graduate you must attend all nine sessions in their entirety.

Upon completion of all nine sessions, Leap Graduates will receive a Certificate of Completion and be recognized for their commitment to leadership.

All Leap Graduates will receive 10% off any future in-person training event attended through SARC Learning Central.
