Vagrancy: A Solution-Based Approach by Rebecca Davis Saratoga TODAY SARATOGA SPRINGS — The conversation surrounding homelessness and vagrancy has exploded in the last few months, even weeks. However, it’s not just conversation anymore – action is happening now. On Monday, May 16, dozens of prominent community members met at the City Center to brainstorm real, tangible solutions for homelessness. From business owners and leaders of non-profit charities to Mayor Yepsen and others in local government, everyone came together that evening and used their individual skills and expertise to develop a plan. Mark Bertrand, the founder of the non-profit The Giving Circle,

was present at the solutions session on Monday. Using his experiences of helping the impoverished around the globe and his many nights working at Code Blue, he already has a lot of great ideas for how to solve the issue of homelessness. However, he wants to make sure the solution is grounded in understanding and empathy. “These are issues we have to remedy, but the concern is that it’s done with a compassionate hand. There is a lot of misinformation out there – a lot of prejudice and hatred that is not based in fact,” explained Bertrand. “There has been a lot of talk about the difference between vagrants and the homeless, but the bottom line is that they’re people. First and foremost they are human beings.”

WILTON — The title, sommelier (SO-muhl-yay), brings to mind an aged gentleman with precisely correct manners and an extensive wine expertise. Or you might think of sipping your favorite decades-old vintage, enjoying the exquisite combination of aroma and taste, watching the liquid gently cling to an elegant crystal wine glass. You might even conjure up an image of women with their colorful skirts and hair tied up, stomping grapes with bare See Sommelier pg. 14
