becoming… A LILY BRIDE

8 | SARATOGA BRIDE | SPRING/SUMMER 2023 saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com
WRITTEN BY MEGIN POTTER | PHOTOS BY ADDY RAE PHOTO

AAfter hating her experience shopping the largest selection of wedding dresses in the world at Kleinfeld’s bridal boutique in New York City, this Massachusetts bride found magic at Lily Saratoga. “I can’t say enough great things about them. I tell everyone you’ve got to find your dress there. They stand out over all the others,” said Allison Snell.

FALLING IN LOVE

Allison was entranced by the sultry, seamless silhouette of the classic, lacy Martina Liana dress from the very first moment she saw it.

“They say when you find the dress, you’ll know it, and that’s what happened,” said Allison. After trying unsuccessfully to find her wedding dress at Kleinfeld’s (the location of the reality television series, Say Yes to the Dress, on TLC), Allison began searching Instagram on the ride home. That’s when she fell in love and was destined to become a #lilybride.

DREAMS DO COME TRUE

Less than a month after she called, in July, Allison was at Lily Saratoga trying on the dress she had seen online.

“I’d kept the dress in the back of my mind the whole time so the wait made it worth it to me in the end,” she said. Besides the long sleeves, the dress was just as she had imagined it would be.

“It stuck out a hundred percent from the dresses I’d tried on from other designers. There was always something I wanted to change about the other dresses, something I didn’t like. For this dress, there wasn’t anything I wanted to change,” said Allison.

Allison, her grandmother, mother, and sister (who had accompanied her to the appointment) agreed on how special it was and placed their order within the hour.

SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL

All six of Allison’s bridesmaids were able to find their dresses during backto-back appointments at Lily Saratoga, as well. Following Allison’s guidance to “go with whatever’s comfortable,” each choose their preferred style in a similar champagne color scheme from the Jenny Yoo collection.

By January, Allison was back in Saratoga Springs for her fitting at WillFitUin (now Mosca Alterations), the alteration shop Lily Saratoga recommended, located in the same building. Because her measurements had been spot-on, the only changes needed were to adjust the straps and to have the hips taken in slightly. The dress was then stored in Saratoga until the week of the wedding.

Stunning enough on its own, Allison’s only accessory for her wedding day was a set of Olive and Piper earrings. “The neckline of the dress was simply beautiful enough that I didn’t need anything else” said Allison.

DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY

It wasn’t until just before the ceremony started at Bloom Meadows in Williamstown, Massachusetts in May, that Allison began to feel nervous. When she appeared for the first time in her dress before her betrothed, Shane Snell, he began to cry. It stopped raining just 15 minutes before their reception. Allison bustled her heavy floral train and danced all night long.

“I can’t believe how dirty the dress was by the end of the night. That’s how you know it was a good wedding. By how dirty the dress got!” she said.

PART OF THE FAMILY

When it was all said and done, the cost of Allison’s dress came in at just $100 more than the $3,000 budgeted. Her experience at Lily Saratoga, however, went well beyond her expectations.

“I can’t say enough great things about them. I tell everyone, you’ve got to find your dress there. They stand out over all the others.”

“It’s such a unique place compared to others I’ve been to,” said Allison. “Lily Saratoga honestly doesn’t compare to anyplace else.”

After witnessing Allison’s success at Lily Saratoga, her sister, Alyssa, is set to be the next #lilybride in the family. www.lilysaratoga.com | 6 Franklin Square, Saratoga Springs

Franklin

WillFitUin becomes Mosca Alterations

Square’s

For more than a decade, women have been going to the beautiful, historic Franklin Square, within the heart of Downtown Saratoga Springs, for alterations.

During the pandemic, seamstress Yana LaPage, the owner of the WillFitUin alteration shop since 2011, moved to Florida. In August 2021, fellow seamstress Megan Mosca, who has worked there since 2017, purchased WillFitUin. Now, she’s renaming it Mosca Alterations.

CUT FROM THE SAME CLOTH

What started out as a temporary position while she attended school at FIT became a full-time gig for Megan Mosca after her graduation in 2020. Since becoming owner, Megan has doubled the store’s staff and given the interior a refresh.

Megan’s work is complemented by that of seamstress Courtney Schadewald (who began at WillFitUin 8 years ago). Together, they can make your dream dress a reality. “We come at alterations from different angles and have different technical training,” said Megan. “Brides come to us with all sorts of ideas, we work with them to bring those ideas to life.”

WHEN YOU’RE COMING UNRAVELED AT THE SEAMS

In addition to their beautiful location, busy brides love the convenience of having alterations done right next to the shop where they purchased their dress. The elegant Lily Saratoga bridal boutique is in the same building as Mosca Alterations.

“It certainly takes weight off the brides’ shoulders. It creates a very seamless operation, from buying the dress through to the alterations,” said Megan, adding, “We work alongside each other fabulously.”

When there are special orders needed for additional lace, fabric, or appliques from the designer, Megan just pops in next door.

HANGING BY A THREAD

It may take between two and seven fittings to get your perfect fit.

While Megan recommends that brides make their first alteration appointment at least three months before the big day (to allow for custom orders from the designer) she is also there for her clients during the unexpected.

When stress gets the best of them, it is not uncommon for a bride’s weight to fluctuate just days before the wedding. This can be especially problematic when wearing strapless gowns, which require a lot of attention to detail at the waist to fit correctly. To remedy this situation, Megan can adjust the zipper and have the dress ready within a day or two, if needed.

What she really enjoys, however, is stretching her creative muscles.

“I’m a sucker for the nitty-gritty creative stuff… The unique touches, such as an intricate neckline, standout applique, or exceptional beading.”

“No two brides are the same. It’s like completing a puzzle – using my creativity and skills to put a bride in her perfect dress.”

WEAR YOUR HEART ON YOUR SLEEVE

Megan specializes in bridal gowns, bridesmaids’ dresses, women, and girls’ formal wear, but if you need a great tailor for the guys, don’t worry, she’s got you covered with trusted recommendations.

“We just want to help you look good for your big day,” she said.

And, to get what you want, during your fittings, speak up, Megan advises.

“Brides always tell me, ‘I haven’t done this before.’ I always tell them, ‘Don’t worry, I have.”

Tell her about any concerns you have about the look and the comfort of the garment.

“I stress to people to say something. I do want to hear your feedback. It’s a process.”

Invitation JUBILATION

When paper wedding invitations came into fashion, they were for “high society.” Today, paper invitations are used by couples with many different budgets and styles. Sure, paper invitations are for traditional, sleek, and modern weddings, but they are also for the vintage chic, and the rustic, farm barn gatherings, even those rolling with a beachy bohemian vibe. Why? Because paper invitations give your wedding its own distinctive voice. They share your joyful anticipation in a way that hits differently than a digital invitation ever could - creating more excitement and enticing guests to say, “YES!”

14 | SARATOGA BRIDE | SPRING/SUMMER 2023 saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

For centuries, paper invitations have remained an essential part of special occasions because they do more than convey written information about the event - they give those who mean the most to you an exclusive glimpse of your wedding with color, weight, and texture they can feel between their fingers. Invitations tell your story in a way that is impossible to forget.

“No matter what other choices you’ve made, invitations give your guests a first glimpse of your wedding vibe,” said Danna Dubno, owner of Paper Dolls of Saratoga, the area’s premier stationary specialty store.

Manage My Invitations!

You’re busy, so before committing to another project, ask yourself if you have time to add more to the list.

Choosing papers, font sizes, styles, printing techniques, inks, and embellishments is just the beginning. You will also need to consider wording, research designers, find printers, and communicate back and forth – it’s a time-consuming process.

Rather than taking it all on yourself, trusting your invitations to a professional like Paper Dolls of Saratoga’s Danna Dubno will feel as if you have a personal Project Manager for your wedding invitations.

In this completely-customizable process, she helps you take your invitations to the next level by suggesting embellishments and papers that best reflect your taste and what you want.

In addition to informing you about style choices, Danna ensures your invitations are delivered on time by pairing your project with suitable designers – all while staying within your budget. For 100 invitations, reply cards, and envelopes, costs may be as low as $350 but can go as high as $1,000 or more.

“I meet people where they are budget-wise,” Danna assures.

Timing is Everything

To ensure your wedding invitations arrive on time, you’ll want to start the process early. Scheduling your initial invitation consultation eight months before your wedding is ideal, but in many situations, six months is feasible - any amount of time less then that is going to feel rushed.

Your timeline begins with a two-to-four-week design phase. Whether you are meeting inperson at Paper Dolls of Saratoga on Broadway, or through Zoom (evening and weekend appointments are available), you’ll kick things off with a FREE hour-long consultation. During this discussion, Danna will want to know your wedding’s venue, style, and other details – like what activities you enjoy – which will all be utilized while developing the design.

Upon approval of the final design proof, next is the printing phase – which takes anywhere from five to 15 business days (depending on the time of year and the printing process you have selected). Flat digital printing, for example, typically takes between five and 10 business days, while 15-20 business days is the norm for the more labor-intensive letterpress and thermography raised-print techniques.

“You can’t rush the printing – the time needed for the specific print styles is fixed, especially during the busier months,” said Danna.

So, when is the right time to send invitations?

Six to eight weeks before the wedding, said Danna (but plan on getting them out 10 to 12 weeks prior for a destination wedding or when guests will need to travel a great distance).

Invitation etiquette dictates that you include a “reply by” date one month before the event.

History-Making Craftsmanship

Paper Dolls of Saratoga is a supplier of many high-quality papers including Crane Stationary, a name trusted in the business for more than 250 years.

Early American Paul Revere used Crane papers for printing the colonies’ first paper money, they have been used for Presidential Christmas cards, the Queen’s birthday invitations, and on NBC’s Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon during their “Thank You Notes” segments. Crane literally wrote the book on stationary etiquette. Paper Dolls of Saratoga is the closest dealer geographically to the locally-owned Crane Stationary in Cohoes.

“I take great pride in working with this local company to deliver timeless wedding invitations,” said Danna.

MUAYourMUA HIRING GUIDE

Everything you need to know about hiring your

Big Day beauty personal Glam squad.

Even all-natural girls and classic beauties want to step it up on their wedding day. With so many eyes on you and photos galore, you want to look like the best version of yourself.

“The first questions I ask a bride are, ‘What do you normally wear?’ and ‘What is your normal routine?’” said professional make-up artist Fawn McClintock, the owner of The Beauty Bar at Palette, which opened on Broadway in March.

WRITTEN BY MEGIN POTTER | PHOTOS PROVIDED
18 | SARATOGA BRIDE | SPRING/SUMMER 2023 saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

YOUR PLACE OR MINE?

After 20 years of experience in the makeup business, Fawn has dedicated herself to beauty on the go and traveling wedding specialty services but her dazzling new salon is a fun destination for brides wanting to save on expenses.

In this quaint brownstone, vintage is mixed with modern in a welcoming, warm, intimate space that is cozy and inviting. The 11 ft. bar has all the finishing touches, making it an excellent spot to set up coffee and food for entertaining.

Sometimes a traveling makeup artist (MUA) will charge for services and both travel time and expenses (which can add quite a bit to a bride’s overall budget!) For onsite work, Fawn only bills for services and the standard state per diem rate ($0.58/mile rounded up to the nearest whole dollar).

WOULD YOU RATHER?

Once the location has been decided, Fawn needs to know the size of the wedding party, and the amount of time she’ll have. Will the bride need to be ready first? When will everyone else need to be ready by? (Answers typically center around the photographer’s timeline).

In 2022, the trend was to get married earlier in the day – say by noon, but an early start means no sleeping in for you party girls. To be ready by 3 p.m., Fawn typically gets things well underway by 8 a.m.

Tips for Those Lovely DIY Brides

Hiring a MUA just isn’t in the budget? No worries you radiant darling, The Beauty Bar has got you covered.

• Book a one-on-one make-up class to get the step-by-step of completing a full-face look tailored specifically to you. A follow-up email gives you product recommendations ranging from drug-store brands to higher-end goods.

• Sign-up for a subscription. Have a lot of events during the peak summer season? Get substantial discounts with weekly or bi-weekly blow-out and make-up services when you buy a monthly subscription.

• Feel lost in the make-up aisle? Try makeup personal shopping. Chic and sophisticated, you can confidently dare to go there with the expert tutelage of an experienced pro.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?

Once you’ve booked, Fawn recommends what services to do over the long haul. She’ll recommend hair stylists and estheticians for certain services. Standard among these will be scheduling a dermaplaning appointment a couple of weeks prior to the wedding to remove the top layer of rough skin and peach fuzz so makeup lays better on the face.

Because they work together often, this beauty team communicates via group chat and may even carpool together to the wedding. And, they will bring absolutely everything with them – huge styling kits with everything imaginable, brushes, lights, even chairs.

All you need to bring is a clean face (make sure you have removed any makeup residue from the night before).

HOW MUCH?

With a simple list of services and straightforward pricing, Fawn doesn’t surprise brides with hidden costs. You’re not officially booked until you sign the contract and pay the deposit (of up to 50 percent of the total plus travel). The remainder of the bride’s balance is due before the wedding. Bridesmaids’ totals are due the day of.

Tipping, while never mandatory, is customarily15-20%.

WHERE’D YOU GO?

Never hesitate when booking a date with your MUA, advises Fawn. Already booking into 2024, Fawn does still have a few dates available this year.

“Brides don’t realize we book up very fast, especially for the prime dates in June, September, and October. We get so many last-minute requests when we have already been booked for a year. As soon as you have your venue, the next thing you need to do is book your make-up artist.”

Experiencing BEAUTY

Being engaged and simply glancing at your ring is a fulfilling reminder of love’s beauty – unless the ring just isn’t quite right.

“Customers look online and will say, ‘Oh! I love this ring!’ Then, when they put it on, they are not as in love with it as they thought they would be,” said N. Fox Jewelers Bridal Boutique Manager Debbie Purstell.

N. Fox Jewelers, a prominent Broadway retailer since 1947, invites you to experience a profound new sense of assuredness with their new interactive ring- building suite.

ACQUIRE NEW KNOWLEDGE

Owners Harvey and Cassie Fox are constantly making enhancements to N. Fox Jewelers’ Saratoga location, most recently to their Private Label experience where a new diamond, bridal, and engagement ring buying suite display allows you to engage with a large selection of build-your-our rings you assemble piece-by-piece.

“Most importantly, we want to stay current with styles and want to provide the highest quality available. Our Private Label line allows us to have control of that,” said Debbie.

“Plus, it’s really cool to come in and try on all the possibilities.”

GAIN INSIGHTS

Escape the limitations of your expectations as each different combination appears on your finger.

Experience the wonder and awe of experimenting with 20 trending shank styles and 35 CZ stone heads to create an amazing 700 different combinations! Play with sizes and shapes of stones, halos, and shanks in 14-carat gold, white rose, and platinum.

Want to customize the ring with a different stone? Rubies or Emeralds, perhaps?

“We have the capability to modify anything, including the center, to be colored stones, lab-grown diamonds, anything the customer wants,” said Debbie.

IDENTIFY JOY

Building your ideal ring is a process that requires your vision, and our help. Let N. Fox Jewelers clarify your desires and get started right away. Go online, build your ring, take a picture of your hand, and simulate what it would be like to wear each one. By first experimenting with all the possibilities virtually, and then coming in to try them on, you’ll know your research is complete.

N. Fox Jewelers gives you approximate on-the-spot pricing. After you have made your decision, depending on the design, your finished ring will be available within two to three weeks. In special circumstances, you can have your final piece in-hand within five business days (but this option does incur an additional rush charge). Added customizations by expert in-house designer Grant Dorangrichia enhance your one-of-a-kind ring even more.

With N. Fox Jewelers personalized “As You Wish Journey,” the story of your ring is chronicled (from the initial style renderings, to the wax modeling, casting, polishing, stone setting, and finishing). The entire journey of your ring is then made viewable through a QR Code presented to you in a book of its very own for a real fairytale ending.

Come in and try the build-your-own ring display today (no appointments needed, but encouraged) by visiting N. Fox Jewelers, 404 Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Find them on Facebook, Instagram, and at www.nfoxjewelers.com

When the Influencer Gets Married

WRITTEN BY MEGIN POTTER | PHOTOS PROVIDED

When Allysia Antolowitz and Nicholas Zotto got engaged in November 2020, they didn’t realize how overwhelming the process of planning a wedding would be.

“I felt tons of pressure,” said Allysia. “I had a million people in my ear.”

THE THIRD TIME IS THE CHARM

Feeling rushed and uneasy about their original plans, the couple, who had met five years earlier, ended up canceling the first venue they booked. Then, after planning much of their Jacksonville, FL destination wedding, in October 2021, during the venue walkthrough, they realized it couldn’t accommodate the 235 guests they were anticipating if it rained. Wedding number two was cancelled.

Feeling defeated and struggling to find an affordable venue that could host the large wedding the couple envisioned, they explored the possibility of postponing yet again when Glen Sanders Mansion miraculously had a cancellation. The Zotto wedding was booked for September 17th, 2022.

“We were already nine months out in the craziest wedding year ever. I said, ‘there’s just no way.’ It was going to be like the literal Hunger Games to find the A-Team list of vendors for my wedding,” said Allysia.

Surprisingly, the majority were available and the Zotto wedding was absolutely amazing. Allysia chronicled it all on social media.

RAW CONNECTION

Allysia first became a lifestyle influencer on a whim while living in Chicago. Naturally outgoing, she loves to talk with people about her experiences and used the platform to connect with followers. After moving back to New York, Allysia began freelancing full-time doing social media management for several local businesses. Her personal Instagram page also picked up traction.

“I showed it all – the ins and outs, the good, bad, and the ugly.” From product posts and lifestyle trends, to relatable, funny videos, her platform is her in her rawest form, she said.

To help address other brides’ questions, Allysia also launched the 518Brides group on Facebook.

“I want to connect more brides with vendors, answer questions, and walk brides through the process. I want to be that person in this area. It’s my niche, even though it’s not part of my life anymore.”

With their first child due in July, Allysia’s Instagram page is full of baby products and prep these days. She spends hours each day messaging, posting, and answering followers’ questions. Find Allysia Zotto online @leeebean on Instagram.

All those Memories!

What is your most memorable keepsake?

A shell from your first trip to the ocean? Your beloved dog’s name tag? The hotel receipt from your first road trip?

Now… Do you know where it is?

Keeping mementos from special times in your life should be a joyful experience for years to come. But just like with all valuables, they need a safe place. It’s no fun to find your irreplaceable items torn, stained, and trampled by the rigors of life.

A few key steps can keep you enjoying your keepsakes as long as you want!

Let’s break Memento Management down into 3 stages to make it seem doable.

1. Select a container

2. Make sure items get to the container

3. Maintain the container

Not so scary, right?! Stay with me and I’ll explain each step.

SELECT A CONTAINER

Instead of getting wrapped up into selecting the perfect container, start with whatever you have on hand and know you can trade up at any point.

Points to consider:

• What storage space do you have available?

• Any potential problems to contend with like moisture or dust?

• How heavy are the items you are storing?

Items stored in the basement will do better with a plastic tote to protect from potential water and dust. Closet storage will do well with cloth or cardboard containers, but if they are going up on a shelf, think about how heavy it might get and go smaller. If it is too cumbersome to access, then you may never get new items to the container or find the energy to maintain the container.

2MAKE SURE ITEMS GET TO THE CONTAINER

Depending on where this storage space is, consider a halfway point. If it is a bin in the basement, all the way in the back, you may not pass that spot often. So consider a designated tray to catch those items and when the tray is full, make a trip to the memento container and load them in.

What is important to remember is that if you consider the item valuable enough to keep, keep it in a safe place so you can enjoy it in the future.

MAINTAIN THE CONTAINER

What felt vital one day may not feel the same one to five years later. Set an intention to review your container’s items periodically (Like New Years’ Day) to remove any items that no longer hold meaning to you. These items are occupying space in your home. If they no longer carry feelings, then it has turned from a keepsake to a ball and chain.

Also, respect the container. Otherwise known as knowing your ‘healthy boundaries.’ If you live in a 900 sq ft. space with two people and four animals, there is not much choice to go beyond a small tote of mementos.

Whatever your square footage, respect that there are healthy boundaries to how much we keep. If you keep every single napkin from every single meal at a restaurant, then that one napkin from the time you spotted that celebrity at that fancy restaurant on that amazing trip won’t have the same meaning.

Saving mementos can add a level of richness to our lives that is unlike any other experience. Take a few moments to respect those memories and how you want to keep them in your life. Not as a weight you carry around, but as treasured experiences to be valued.

Good points to ponder… now go find those perfect items you will love looking at with your kids someday to tell the story of their parents.

Questions about how to store your mementos? Or where to draw the healthy boundary with keepsakes? Email Sara@YourAlignedHome.com for help.

Tuscan Sun Shines on Saratoga Salon

Creating CLASSIC Character:

For Cheri Satterfield, an entrepreneur from West Virginia, New York’s Capital Region feels like home, and Saratoga’s Classical Concepts Salon, the newest member of the family.

As the mother of five children, stepmother to four, and grandmother of 13, Cheri is a woman devoted to caring for family. It is the guiding principal of all she does as the founder of Tuscan Sun Salons and Spas (whose portfolio now includes seven salons in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York, the Highgate Carriage House wedding venue, and daycare services in WV).

“I care so much I can’t sleep. Every one of my businesses is like one of my children and I have to make sure they’re all okay!”

FEELING THE LOVE

Cheri first ventured into entrepreneurship with video rental stores. When mail-order and streaming services started to become the go-to way to get your entertainment, Cheri made an innovative move - adding tanning services to her store. Because peak tanning hours are different from peak rental hours, the store stayed busy constantly.

In 2004, she shifted to concentrating entirely on beauty and wellness with the opening of her first salon. As Cheri readied the space, her father hung the salon’s bronze sign bearing its name: Tuscan Sun – a name Cheri chose inspired by the movie, “Under the Tuscan Sun,” about a woman starting her life anew amid Tuscany’s rolling hills.

Much like the movie’s main character, Cheri (who is also Italian) was embarking on a journey. One where, by taking chances and following her heart, she would experience the warmth of being surrounded by colorful characters who come to feel like family.

“Family is not just by blood, it’s created by the love you surround yourself with,” she said.

When masters convene, magnificent beauty emerges.

WELCOME HOME

It is the warmth of Tuscan Sun’s spas, salons, and medical spas that makes your experience here feel so special. It is the welcoming sense of feeling cared for and nurtured that lights up your soul.

In 2021, Kimberley’s A Day Spa (now Tuscan Sun at Kimberley’s) became the first in the area to join the Tuscan Sun family, followed by Rumors Salon & Spa (now Rumors by Tuscan Sun), both of which are located on the same road in Latham, less than three miles apart from one another. Now, Classical Concepts Salon & Spa, on Broadway in Saratoga, is welcoming the guidance and resources of the Tuscan Sun team. “We have great teams in New York; in finance, human resources, and great managers I feel confident in,” said Cheri, who rents an apartment in Latham. She spends one week every month Upstate to personally see to any problems that arise.

“Customer service with Tuscan Sun is number one,” she said. “I’m a very hands-on owner. I look at every review that comes in the gate and address it. I try to make customers as happy as I can.”

THE ARTFUL SALON BOND

When artists gather, masterpieces are in the making. As in their other locations, Tuscan Sun at Kimberley’s and Rumors by Tuscan Sun are currently adding medical spa services to their state-of-the-art facilities. In Saratoga, the Classical Concepts Salon & Spa will continue to keep the traditions of the trusted Aveda salon alive by also keeping their existing team of stylists in place.

With the added strength of additional management backing and resources, their stylists now have access to better equipment and benefits, including health insurance and vacation days. Always cognizant of local community connections, spas and salons in the Tuscan Sun family continue to contribute to local events, groups, and charitable causes. In Saratoga, an expanded line of products, more skin care services, and a larger selection of hair care options will be available at Classical Concepts. Committed to continued education for all their stylists to stay abreast of the latest trends, experts skilled in special techniques share their knowledge with one another in classes on updos, ethnic styles, extensions, blonding, and more.

For large wedding parties, on-site preparations, or last-minute changes, these masterful teams pool their resources to ensure your big day beauty dreams come true.

“You can have confidence when you come in,” said Cheri. “We do great work and we constantly strive to do better.”

Surrounding yourself with the beautiful warmth of being cared for begins with a sunny preview appointment at least two months before your wedding day. Prime spring and fall dates (especially Saturdays) book up fast, so find Classical Concepts Salon & Spa today on Facebook, Instagram, and classicalconceptssalon.com

FACES of Saratoga

OFFERS TRIPLE-CROWN WINNER:

Aging Naturally with triLift

For those of us who'd love a little help toning facial muscles, reducing wrinkles, and smoothing out the surface of our skin, FACES of Saratoga, located on Beekman Street, offers a new, FDAapproved, non-invasive face-lift therapy called triLift. Chris Vallone Bushee, Editor in Chief of Saratoga Bride magazine, and I are curious to visit and see what the fuss is about.

"I'm a little nervous," she tells me when we meet. "I'm not really sure what's involved. Is it painful? Are there any side effects I need to worry about? How long does it last?" She rattles off legitimate questions, and I'm wondering the same. There's only one way to find out.

The Blue Peregrine Salon, where FACES of Saratoga is located, is a charming place located at 55 Beekman Street. Crystal meets us at the door. I'm impressed that she takes so much time sitting with Chris for her consultation – something she does with every potential client before any treatment begins. She explains the process and what Chris can expect before, during, and after the triLift session is over.

Crystal builds the heat gradually and while I felt a “metallic” taste in my mouth, (due to dental work, which she dealt with) there was no pain or discomfort – I even enjoyed the muscle stimulation, which made my face wiggle!

"As we age," Crystal tells us, "our facial muscles tend to loosen—the outer skin layer thins. The triLift procedure helps with all that – without Botox or an invasive surgical procedure that typically comes with a face-lift." She answers all our questions, taking her time to make Chris feel at ease, before pointing out the lady's room, where clients can change into something comfortable.

The room where Crystal “works her magic” is small and cozy. I peek inside to look at the sleek machine standing in the corner. I'm intrigued. She smiles when she sees my expression, knowing I’m thinking… What. Is. That?

"Dynamic Muscle Stimulation - or DMst – it helps wake healthy muscles through electrical stimulation, encouraging our facial muscles to expand and contract." During Chris' session, she explains that she'll use the triLift platform and its three applicators that differ in size to cover small, medium, and large treatment areas. “I’ll use Radio Frequency and Dynamic Muscle Stimulation with the triPolar handpieces to boost collagen, stimulate fibroblasts and create a beautiful lift to your skin. Then I use the triFX, which is a combination of Radio Frequency and Microneedling/Microchanneling to create volume AND smooth texture. Your skin will be silky smooth and your pores will literally vanish!” Crystal also explains how she'll work on one side of the face first, so we can note the difference –which is often immediate. Sure enough, when Chris sits up, we see dimples! And her laugh lines aren't as prominent! "I can see the contours of my face!" She exclaims. It's a fun moment for the three of us as we stare at her in the mirror and compare both sides. "And this is from one session – can you imagine what a series of treatments would do?!"

saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com SPRING\SUMMER 2023 | SARATOGA BRIDE | 31
Crystal is the bomb! She put me at ease and explained everything.
Such a comforting space :)

When she wonders about the lingering redness, Crystal assures her that in one or two hours, the redness will calm down, allowing her to put makeup on and go out on the town if she wants.

"Natural, gentle aging is the rage now, and it's not going away anytime soon." Crystal shares that her clients are skipping the traditional face-lift route and opting for non or minimally invasive treatments instead. "And younger clients don't want injectables - they want a more holistic way to slow down facial aging. Don't get me wrong – many still want Botox, and there's nothing wrong with that option," she assures me. "But, with triLift, our facial muscles get a workout without injections, foreign substances, surgery, and downtime. How exciting is that?"

I laugh when Chris pipes up and says, "VERY!"

Imagine – you come into town for a long weekend with parties lined up and dinners with friends after a long, successful day at the track. A few hours after a triLift treatment, you go home, throw on a summer dress and a little makeup, then head out on the town feeling like a million bucks.

Or, and I love this, you're getting married (or your child is) and you want to look your best when you walk down the aisle. A visit to FACES of Saratoga will help put your best face forward. The possibilities are endless – your social calendar will never look the same!

Shortly after Chris is finished and dressed, the three of us walk across the street to enjoy a fabulous dinner at Taverna Novo, where many selfies are taken, and we rave about the changes we can already see in her facial contouring. "Wow," Chris exclaims - more than once, "I have a chin! My neck, cheeks, even my eyes look better!" Crystal laughs and says, "Remember, triLift works to tone, tighten, and lift your muscles. It's a muscle workout. The whole idea is to reverse signs of aging quickly and easily." Although she also explains that results can vary, I'm impressed with what I see. This year, in May, I turn 65 and am seriously thinking about gifting myself a package from FACES of Saratoga - I've never minded asking for a bit of help from my friends, and Chris highly recommends it!

This photo is after one side of my face was done to compare the results (yes, both sides were done and I love it!)
Check out my higher eye lid! Even my “baggage” got a lift. Check out how my cheek is higher, & my dimple is more visible Even my “Howdie Doodie” lines are less visible Check out how my face looks instantly slimmer
This Pre-Treatment Facial was to clean and prep my skin since I’m not a regular.

Our Story...

Chris and I both graduated from Saratoga Springs in 2013. We knew each other in school but not well enough to develop any sort of relationship. Our graduating class was quite large, so it was impossible to know everyone on a personal level. Luckily, we reconnected - as adults - when we were both working at the Skidmore Apartments in 2019. Even though we had met before, when we “re-met,” it felt like love at first sight. We couldn’t believe that a love like ours was just waiting for us.

We moved in together in 2020, during the pandemic. We honestly felt grateful to be stuck together during those times. We had the most fun drinking bottles of wine and listing to the Purple Rain album on repeat in our living room. We were only dating for little over a year when Chris asked me to marry him on Valentine’s Day of 2021. We decided to get married in Saratoga because that is where we both grew up and still live to this day. It was the most fun day of our lives. We wish we could to it over and over again. :)

Our Story...

Before Shane and I met, I was living in South Carolina and Shane was in Florida. Home called and we both returned to upstate NY, where Friday nights turned into swiping right and swiping left. That’s when I officially met Shane on Bumble. It turns out we grew up in hometowns just 10 minutes away from each other yet, we had never met and to be honest it all makes sense now. Shane, the shy guy, took me out on our first date to a restaurant in Amsterdam when he consumed his food quicker than I could introduce myself. Our first date was over within an hour, and I thought for sure I would never hear from him again. I am here to admit I was wrong; ask Shane, it doesn’t happen often. Our free time turned into days spent together before becoming his girlfriend a few months later. After moving in together we got the cutest little silver lab pup that we named Maui. That was after the dream proposal happened, in the middle of a flower field on a hot July night, just at sunset. Anyone that knows Shane would understand how much planning he put into that night, timing the sunset down to the minute he wanted to propose. Then came picking the venue. I had such a vision of exactly what I was looking for. After looking at six other venues, Bloom Meadows was lucky number seven! In the base of the mountain in the middle of the Berkshires, Bloom Meadows was our pick. Wedding planning had officially started and next up was THE DRESS. I had started my search in NYC and left feeling defeated. I searched high and low (on our whole ride home!) before finding the most perfect Martina Liana gown. Next step was finding who carried her line and up popped Lily Saratoga. Let me just say I should have started here, from start to finish everyone in the shop was so welcoming and attentive to each one of their guests. Our wedding was an absolute dream! The team at Lily’s, Bloom, and all the other vendors we hired made our day extra special. Surrounded by the people we love most, 05/28/2022 will be a hard day to beat!

Our Story...

Lee and I met through a mutual friend at our hometown bar The Bullpen in Glens Falls, NY. We started officially dating not long after and moved in together about two years later. We brought home our crazy Labrador/golden mix, Cooper, shortly after that! In the summer of 2020, we bought our first house together and instantly started turning it into our home.

That following June, Lee proposed on the beach in Myrtle Beach on our fourth anniversary. I’ll never forget his smile as he pulled the ring box from his pocket. It was a perfect proposal with just the two of us (and of course his stepsister snapping photos for us!!)

We toured a couple different venues while starting our planning journey, and ultimately decided on the Queensbury Hotel as it was the most central location for all our family -and the renovations they had been doing were looking amazing! They also have some pretty great staff!

Our wedding day was the best day ever, thanks to our awesome vendors, families, and bridal party. We were so confident going into our day because we picked well-vetted and trusted vendors and they did not disappoint.

Our Story...

Steve and I grew up in Burnt Hills and we met in high school. We have been together for fourteen years, engaged for six, and now married for three. During that time, we have traveled the world, gone through college and graduate school, and moved across the county.

Our wedding was initially scheduled for June of 2020, however we postponed out celebration at Nipmoose until 2022 and instead were married in a small backyard celebration before moving to Utah. In 2022 we flew back to New York to have our originally intended celebration with friends and family, many of whom we hadn't gotten to see before moving away. For all of these reasons our celebration at Nipmoose was very special; it was an incredibly joyous occasion to reunite with so many of our loved ones while being surrounded by a landscape that we both missed dearly while living out west. Our wedding inspiration was Bilbo Baggins’ birthday party from the fellowship of the ring.

Our Story...

Ryan and I met on Bumble in New York City. Our first date was at a bar called Loverboy, and the rest is history! We were attached at the hip from that moment on. On our 5th date, Ryan asked if I wanted to go to The Belmont Stakes with him and his friends. It was a big race - Justify was racing for the Triple Crown, and Ryan's family would also be there! Ryan's parents, Terry and Debbie Finley, are the founders and owners of West Point Thoroughbreds, so they were there for the race, but it was a great opportunity to meet the entire family.

Horse racing has been such a big part of Ryan's upbringing and Saratoga has always been a special place for the family. They spent every summer at the track, and soon after I met Ryan, I joined in on these weekends upstate. Saratoga started to become our escape from Manhattan. It was so nice to jump on a train and be in Saratoga for the weekend. Early mornings at the backstretch, afternoons at the track, and dinners on Broadway started to become a common occurrence for us.

In 2020, Ryan left New York City to get his MBA in Philadelphia at The Wharton School of Business. We got engaged in Philadelphia in April of 2021 and started on the journey of planning a wedding! It was an easy decision to pick Saratoga Springs as our wedding destination. We wanted to give our closest friends and family a glimpse into this special place and the world of horse racing. I always knew I wanted to hire Ashley Douglass as my wedding planner. She is a phenomenal event planner who I had been following for many years. She was able to help me curate an amazing team of vendors to create the wedding of our dreams. Our wedding day was beyond what we could have imagined. Everything was incredible! Despite being called a "calm" bride, I was confident that I had nothing to worry about as I had an exceptional team of vendors surrounding me. I trusted every single one of them throughout the entire process and they were an absolute joy to be around on my wedding day!

advice TO PASS ALONG...

• When planning your wedding, it's important to stay true to yourselves as a couple. Your wedding day should reflect your unique personality and style, and you shouldn't feel pressured to follow traditions or trends that don't feel authentic to you. It's also important to have a reliable and trustworthy team of vendors to help bring your vision to life. Delegating tasks and trusting in their expertise can help to reduce stress and ensure that everything runs smoothly on your big day. Remember to enjoy the planning process and cherish the memories you create with your loved ones!!

Saratoga Springs holds a special place in our hearts. We were eager to share this unique destination with our nearest and dearest, so we decided to organize an entire weekend dedicated to horse racing festivities. Our rehearsal dinner and welcome drinks took place on the stunning patio of 15 Church, setting the tone for what was yet to come. On the morning of our wedding day, we treated guests to breakfast on the backstretch where they could immerse themselves into all things related to horse racing culture. We then arranged for an exclusive tour of The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame led by none other than Tom Durkin himself! Afterward, we rendezvoused at Old Tavern Farm for both our ceremony & reception – it couldn't have been more picturesque! To wrap up such a memorable experience-filled weekend appropriately, Sweet Mimi's catered us with their delicious brunch fare as everyone bid their goodbyes before heading out.

Our Story...

Brett and I first met in 2010 as co-workers. We became good friends until our career paths changed, which led to us going our separate ways. It wasn’t until 2019 when we finally reconnected and our lives aligned perfectly after going out one Saturday night. Little did we know, that would be our very last first date. We were in the right place at the right time. After two years of dating, while on vacation in Philadelphia, Brett unexpectedly proposed. Our family and friends were ecstatic to hear the news!

Although the wedding planning process was stressful and our plans were changed at the last minute when our original venue fell through, we were fortunate enough to find the Mohawk River Country Club only four months away from our big day.

We are so thankful to everyone who worked tirelessly to make our vision a reality.

Our Story...

Paul and I met in 2017 through my brother-in-law, Matt Griffin, who is also Paul’s best friend and band mate. The first time we met, we spent an entire evening together with a group of mutual friends, getting $3 beers at Druther's, going bowling, and ending the night at Gaffney's, which was where we actually spoke for the first time that night! It wasn't until we met for the second time at Saratoga's Chowderfest while he was performing with this band, Let's Be Leonard, that we both realized we had a lot in common and there was potential for a relationship there. At the time I was in school studying to become a dental hygienist, so I asked Paul to be one of my patients. After his appointment, he was so excited that he couldn’t even wait until he got into the elevator to ask me out on a date.

Cue to nearly five years later, Paul proposed to me at the Sagamore in November 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Much of our relationship has been centered around the local dining and music scene in Saratoga and Glens Falls, so we knew we wanted to get married close to home. Saratoga National was the perfect venue to fit all our closest family and friends. The Mazzone team along with all our amazing vendors, made our day an absolute breeze and our day was everything we could have ever dreamed of.

advice

TO PASS ALONG...

• You don't have to do it all on your own. Keep your load and mindset light, and ask for help when you need it! Hiring professionals that you know and trust will be a huge help with that. Also try not to let what you see on social media dictate your wedding day. The sooner you can let go of picture perfect expectations, the sooner you can enjoy the process and focus on what your wedding is really all about! Don't lose sight of what really matters, celebrating the love you chose with your closest family and friends.

Our Story...

Before Pier and I met we both lived in downtown Saratoga Springs though somehow had not crossed paths. We met by chance on a Thanksgiving Eve and shortly after began dating. Our engagement was on the eve of Easter, four years later at one of our favorite local spots; The Wine Bar Saratoga. Pier grew up in Troy NY and I in Clifton Park so we both have a strong connection the Capital Region. We both love to travel and had considered a destination wedding but ultimately decided our hometown was the best choice. There are so many great venues in Saratoga Springs but after visiting The Mansion Inn just outside of town we immediately knew that was our place. The staff was absolutely amazing, and from our initial meeting made us feel like we were in great hands. Lori Wodicka walked us through our options and made suggestions on how to best use all aspects that this beautiful venue has to offer. Chef Rick Beiber worked with us to create a delicious menu, creative stations and delivered impeccable results. Rachel Francisco was the perfect person to keep everyone on track and provided a calming voice as our Day of Coordinator. She made sure all our amazing vendors had anything they needed at their disposal.

Our day could not have been more perfect, everything went off without a hitch and even the weather was the perfect “Sunny and 75!” We are so thankful to The Mansion and all our vendors who made this the best day ever. Our photographer and videographer worked seamlessly together while staying very much a part of the day but unobtrusive. I highly recommend booking Chelsey and Ben together! Special thanks to Shannon Ramirez - Power of a Stylist for creating the perfect “lived in” color and highlights. Extra special thanks to Elegant Fashion and Lucia Bruno for all our alterations, my dress fit like a glove!

Our Story...

Michael and I grew up in small towns next to each other, he from Duanesburg, me from Schoharie. We circled in the same group of people for years, yet never even knew we existed until our mutual best friend Tom, took us both for some last-minute Christmas shopping in 2017.

We still joke to this day that we are polar opposites, and with that being said, we did not believe Tom when he insisted that we would be the perfect match. I'm a very loud outspoken person & Michael is very reserved and gentle. After we met, we became inseparable, hanging out every weekend and soon became best friends. It wasn't until April 2018 that we went on our first date (after I asked him!!) - the rest is history.

The Sagamore has always been my dream wedding location since I was a little girl, and my parents knew that had to be the spot when I got engaged.

Our wedding day was packed full of such fun personalities… and having such a large wedding party; 12 bridesmaids, 12 groomsmen, 5 ushers, and 2 flower girls was the best!

We simply have no regrets!

Our Story...

In August 2017, Tracy and her dad, Steve, were feeding carrots to a horse named Hope’s Roar at Saratoga Race Course, a horse aptly named for the beckoning emergence of hope. Steve would eventually meet Dan in front of Hope’s Roar’s stall. They became friends, talking almost daily and even traveling to the Preakness together. Two years later during The Sales in Saratoga, Dan was invited to attend a barn party at Sugar Plum Farm to celebrate their stallion. Steve stopped by with his family before going to dinner and that is when Steve introduced his daughter, Tracy, to Dan. Dan and Tracy spent the next morning together having breakfast at the “fancy” track kitchen and seeing each other that evening at The Sales. Through a mutual friend, they met up later that night at Gaffney’s in Downtown Saratoga. After that night out…

That was it!

Dan and Tracy flew between New York and Florida every other weekend to see each other. They shared their mutual love of country music during one of their favorite weekends together in Nashville right before the COVID shutdown. After four months apart, Dan flew down to Florida to see Tracy and they have not left each other’s side since. After two summers in Saratoga, a dozen road trips up and down the East Coast, and countless nights on the beach, they got engaged on December 1, 2021!

“Being that we met in Saratoga and have lived there, it only made sense to also get married there. We found the perfect venue in The Mansion Inn of Saratoga. We wanted an outdoor event and this venue made our vision come true. Our wedding day couldn’t have been more perfect! We are so thankful to all our vendors that helped make our wedding a day to remember!”

Our Story...

Dave and I met the day we moved into our freshman dorm at Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. As we both unloaded our bags and lacrosse sticks, it sparked a natural conversation. For the next three years, we became very close friends with a tight knit group that were navigating life in college, as well as playing on the men's and women's lacrosse teams.

Our relationship took the next step our senior year and continued after college as I moved to Boston and Dave moved to London. Eventually, we both settled in Boston for good and in 2021, bought our first home, got a puppy and eventually got engaged in Westport MA.

Getting married in Saratoga was a natural fit as it was my hometown and where we were able to create so many special memories throughout the years together. Once we knew we could get married at the 1863 Club at the Saratoga Race Course, it was a done deal! We were so excited to have friends from Holy Cross and Boston experience Saratoga Springs for the first time at such a unique and historic location.

Our day was perfect and by utilizing local vendors, every detail was authentic to Saratoga and depicted what Saratoga means to us. We couldn't be more appreciative of everyone who helped to celebrate our next chapter together!

Our Story...

Cam and I met the old-fashioned way - in a bar, in New York City.

We immediately connected over the fact that we both grew up in Upstate New York (just an hour and a half from each other!) before moving to NYC. We went on our first date soon thereafter and the rest was history.

After three years of dating, Cam proposed in a park in Brooklyn, with a beautiful view of the Brooklyn Bridge in the background. He knew I wanted a photograph of the proposal, so he arranged for some of my friends to be present to capture the moment and hand us celebratory champagne. The very next day we hopped in the car and drove to the Saratoga Race Course to continue the celebrations with family and friends.

We both agreed that Saratoga would be the perfect place to tie the knot, given our mutual love for the town and how easily accessible it would be for our Upstate NY families and NYC friends. After visiting a few venues, we decided we wanted something that we could customize and make completely our own. Fortunately, Cam's parents live 20 miles from Saratoga and offered up their backyard as our venue. We rented a big sailcloth tent and hired a team of amazing vendors to help transform the property into our dream venue.

We could not have asked for a more perfect day and are so grateful to everyone that was a part of it.

Our Story...

Although Andrew and I knew each other in grade school, it wasn’t until the summer of 2016 that we connected with each other, while I was home from college for the summer. We hit things off from the moment we re-kindled, but both of us knew it was going to end up one of two ways; this would be a great summer fling, or we’d end up marrying each other someday. We opted to go with the latter. We decided to continue as a long-distance relationship and while I was just finishing up college in Connecticut, Andrew was just starting his medical school journey in New York, to become a doctor. Most of our relationship was long distance, but after he graduated from medical school, we could finally live in the same town. After five years of dating, he proposed while we were on a trip to Napa Valley at my favorite winery, Castello Di Amorosa. A castle with wine? It couldn’t have been more perfect. Once we got engaged, there was no question where the wedding would be. I used to work weddings at Crooked Lake throughout high school and always imagined my own wedding there. It also just so happens that many of Andrew’s family members grew up working there back when it was a hotel, as some of his ancestors owned it. Not only is the venue beautiful with so much history, but the team at Old Daley Inn at Crooked Lake will go above and beyond to make your wedding day perfect. If you want it, they will make it happen.

All our vendors exceeded our expectations. They were timely, detailed, and made the planning process easy. We cannot recommend them enough!

Our Story...

Lenny and I first met while in our Senior year at Siena College in our capstone class. Our professor created a complex test to assign groups. I did not want to be with Lenny because he was the type of person who showed up late to the first day… with Starbucks. To my luck, we ended up together. Lenny proved his “wing it” ideology, and we formed a strong bond and fell in love (Shoutout to Professor Mike Hickey!)

In 2015, we graduated from Siena and moved in together. More importantly, we ended up adopting our bunny, Crowley. Our family of three moved back to my childhood town of Saratoga Springs, meaning our down time is spent trying all the downtown bars and restaurants, and testing our luck at the track!

Six years later, Lenny proposed to me in our favorite town of Ogunquit, Maine on the Marginal Way Cliffs. We constantly joke about our “bad luck,” but both of us never take for granted how lucky we were to end up in that group. Saratoga Springs became our home, and we knew it was the perfect place to bring family and friends together to celebrate our marriage. We viewed a number of venues, but the Hall of Springs stole our heart. The reflecting pool within the park and the architecture are iconic – perfect for a dream wedding!

Our wedding day would not have been special without all our incredible vendors, family, and friends. We are truly thankful for you ALL!
