There was just something about Sam Place – a soft but well spoken, intelligent seventh grader in Art Kranick’s science class that caught the eye of the long-time crosscountry coach at Saratoga Springs High School. the running would help him get into shape, and so in eighth grade he agreed to sign on with the freshman cross-country team. “Obviously my husband saw something in him that was worth recruiting,” said Linda Kranick, Art’s wife and co-coach for Saratoga’s cross-country runners, “and he was right.” Place’s story is one of perseverance and hard work, one where nothing comes easy, but where the ends’ rewards are that
