PROJECT BRIEF Background: Located on corner of Garden Drive and East 6th Ave in East Vancouver, a 2 family dwelling RT-5 covering 3158.6 SF and completed construction in 2021. Designed by MA+HG Vancouver based architecture firm known for bold, artful spaces that combine whimsy and function; concise and practical yet poetic and personal to the client. Problem Statement: Current views from interior are uninteresting and dull. Require some privacy from south neighbours. Maximum project budget is $10,000 to include associated costs of required materials and processes. Proposed Solution: Introduce organic vibrance to the outdoor space and express playful identity through plant material and natural forms to achieve modest style yet unmistakably modern in contrast to the building aesthetic. Optimize sightlines to year round framed views of the outdoor zones highlighting feature feature trees, evergreen structure, plant palette of native species, varied heights in addition to colour, texture and movement. Connect entry and garage side yard access via reclaimed materials or natural stepping stone. Give sense of place to outdoor garden room as extension of interior entertainment space. Considerations: Project exceeding the budget. Project timeline exceeding anticipated end date due to changes in scope or tradespeople avaibility.
