ANNUAL REPORT
THE STORY OF MASHIMONI
In 2011, we visited Kibera in Kenya. (Kibera is Africa's second largest slum). While we were there, we saw how fortunate we were in Norway, so we decided to start an orphanage which we called Mashimoni Children Center. We started this orphanage in Kibera in 2011, but in the fall of 2013, we moved the orphanage to Malaa, a small village about 1 hour outside the capital Nairobi.
Since 2011, the project has evolved significantly. We have relocated the orphanage again, to an area called Kitengela, a suburb of the capital. Today, all 64 children attend good quality schools Schools in Kenya are essentially free, but parents often cannot afford additional expenses such as books, uniforms, tuition fees, exam fees, transportation and other unforeseen expenses.
Can it really be called free then?

WE ARE COMMITTED TO COMBATING POVERTY THROUGH GRASSROOT PROJECTS FOCUSED ON EDUCATION, HEALTHCARE AND ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT. BY WORKING CLOSELY WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND LEVERAGING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES.
ENCOURAGING KIDS TO ADOPT HEALTHY EATING HABITS FROM A YOUNG AGE IS CRUCIAL FOR THEIR GROWTH, DEVELOPMENT AND OVERALL WELL-BEING.
EMBRACING FOOD DIVERSITY ENRICHES NUTRITIONAL INTAKE. WE INCLUDE FRUITS, VEGETABLES, GRAINS, PROTEINS, AND DAIRY IN OUR MEALS.
MEDICAL FOLLOW-UP INVOLVES REGULAR APPOINTMENTS AND ASSESSMENTS BY HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS TO MONITOR THE CHILDS PROGRESS AFTER TREATMENT OR DIAGNOSIS.
CHILDREN VACCINES ARE ESSENTIAL FOR PREVENTING NUMEROUS INFECTIOUS DISEASES AND PROTECTING YOUNG INDIVIDUALS FROM SERIOUS ILLNESSES. WE FOLLOW RECOMMENDED VACCINATION SCHEDULES.
OUR STUDENTS:
USUALLY THE SCHOOL FEE DOESN'T COVER TUITION, TEXTBOOKS, EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, MEALS OR TRANSPORTATION SERVICE. IN OUR SCHOOL EVERYTHING IS INCLUDED IN THE SCHOOL FEE: 10.000KSH PER TERM.
OUR HEADTEACHER IS A WOMEN AND SHE REPRESENT PROGRESS TOWARDS GENDER EQUALITY IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP ROLES.
A SOLAR-POWERED BOREHOLE UTILIZES SOLAR ENERGY TO PUMP WATER FROM UNDERGROUND SOURCES, PROVIDING A SUSTAINABLE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY SOLUTION TO OUR WATER SUPPLY.
HYGIENE AND SANITATION ARE FUNDAMENTAL FOR PREVENTING THE SPREAD OF DISEASES AND PROMOTING OVERALL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING.
CLEAN COOKING WITH BLUE FLAME STOVES SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCES INDOOR AIR POLLUTION COMPARED TO TRADITIONAL COOKING METHODS, IMPROVING RESPIRATORY HEALTH FOR HOUSEHOLDS. THESE EFFICIENT STOVES ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION BY REDUCING FUEL CONSUMPTION AND MINIMIZING CARBON EMISSIONS.
SOLAR POWER HARNESSES THE SUN'S ENERGY TO GENERATE ELECTRICITY, OFFERING A SUSTAINABLE AND RENEWABLE ALTERNATIVE TO TRADITIONAL FOSSIL FUELS.
LONG-TERM FINANCIAL FEASIBILITY
Mashimoni prioritizes sustainable community empowerment over traditional aid approaches. We focus on education and skillbuilding to foster self-reliance and resilience within communities facing adversity.
Through access to quality education and vocational training, we equip individuals with the tools to improve their lives and address underlying social challenges. Emphasizing collaboration and community involvement, it ensures initiatives are culturally relevant and sustainable.
We also operate an orphanage to meet the immediate needs of vulnerable children. However, the orphanage goes beyond basic care, providing education and maintaining connections with the community to break the cycle of poverty and disadvantage.
FUTURE
Our future holds exciting possibilities as we envision the expansion of our facilities to better serve our community. We aspire to construct staff housing, providing a stable and supportive environment for our dedicated team members. Additionally, we aim to establish a small clinic on our premises, ensuring access to essential healthcare services for our children and our community.
In our commitment to providing a nurturing environment for growth and development, we plan to create a vibrant Multi-Use Games Area where children can engage in various sports and recreational activities. This area will foster social interaction, physical fitness, and teamwork among our children. Alongside this, we also plan to establish an vegetable garden, providing opportunities for education and sustainable food production.
Furthermore, recognizing the importance of providing accommodations for visitors and volunteers, we intend to build a guest house. This guest house will serve as a welcoming space for sponsors and guests to stay while contributing.
In addition to our plans for infrastructure development, we recognize the importance of securing additional land to support our expanding programs and services. Acquiring more land is crucial for the sustainable growth and long-term success of our organization. With increased land availability, we can create more space for recreational activities, agricultural projects, and future expansion initiatives. This expansion will enable us to accommodate a growing number of children in need, ensuring that we can continue to provide them with a safe and nurturing environment. By investing in additional land, we are investing in the future of our children and Mashimoni Moyo Academy. Together, we can lay the foundation for even greater impact in the lives of the children.
