Public Space for Vandalism & Community Center

with Behavioral Architecture Approach

Undergraduate Final Project

Project Supervisor:

Vandalism as one of the biggest issue has yet to find a solution, it is felt that the reason why the solutions that has been applied never worked because we never really taken the vandalism performers or graffiti artists’ views and side into consideration.

Public Space and Community Center helps them to carry out, express, and to develop their 'talent' of vandalism, legally, with the hope of vandalisms in other public areas can be minimized. Through behavioral architecture approach, teenage vandals and graffiti artist portrayed as a subject that determine and contribute to the design aspects of the space.

Each family will be given a room size according to the number of family members, for example a young couple/new couple. Then the type of unit given is type A2 (27m2).

Changes – Outcome

Families will have children and grow up, who used to be able to sleep together now must have privacy So that the unit that used to be 1 room was changed to 2 rooms without changingtheareaoftheunit.

Prawirotaman, one of the tourist areas with a thick culture, is known as the tourist village of Yogyakarta City The number of places such as restaurants, entertainment, encourages local communities to gather here to produce creative ideas that support the development of the creative economy era.

If you pay attention to between tourists and local communities, there is no “media” where the two can really interact that can generate new thoughts or at least learn about the existing culture.

For this reason, a public space in the form of Art Space was created, which was built in an abandoned building in Prawirotaman. Which with the existence of this public space, besides being able to give a new 'soul' to the building and the surrounding environment, it can accommodate the problem of the absence of a place for cultural interaction.
